Forgive my levity... it's just that I DO feel safer in here than 'out at large' since I posted that I think Daniel's 70th week already happenned -- that is not going over well with pre-tribbers as well as post-tribbers who think a future 70th week is "what we had better get ready for"
sigh

I find that somebody's willingness to accept the pre-trib view is often an indirect statement on their fixation for prepping. There's no small amount of clinical paranoia going on with some of them too.

I was somewhat receptive to the pre-trib until I read Left Behind.

I cannot convince myself of something that ludicrous.

What I like about partial preterism is how it encourages historical studies... and, in the bargain, puts me in consensus with the ancients, who never believed in "raptures" or the like.

I agree. Partial Preterism goes hand in hand with historical studies.

I was amazed when I read about how much 'History' is in Revelation. Of how much of it tied in with the OT etc. Fascinating.

Don't know if I ever posted this before but here's a pretty neat resource for a lot of preterism essays and think pieces as well as a few critiques of the dispensational models. Pretty handy, really.

I am tired of all the end time prophets on here who think that the end of the word is nigh! They are two a penny!
The wonderful thing about the Internet is that it gives everybody a voice.

But the really lousy thing about the Internet is that it gives everybody a voice.

My Problem With Pre-Trib Pre-Millennialism
"This is my blood. The blood of the new and eternal covenant. Do this in memory of... actually, wait a minute. Nah. When I say 'eternal', I don't actually mean, like, ETERNAL. Yanno? I mean, this is a totally legit covenant and stuff but, like, when I come back as Space Jesus as rapture everybody and stuff, this new and eternal covenant that I'm about to make will be shown as the temporary covenant. Then we'll be back to the old covenant.

"No, srsly, there will be a third temple and valid animal sacrifices will be offered. I know the second temple hasn't been destroyed yet. Just go with me here, k?

"So yeah, the third temple will be totally accepted by God because there will be this one guy, it's a weird story, just trust me, there'll be this one guy who goes in there and does some really scandalous stuff to defile the temple that shouldn't even exist because the old covenant it represents has been fulfilled by Me and I'm supposed to set up a new and eternal covenant. Right? But, like, this new covenant won't be very eternal. And like I say, after that we go back to the old covenant, lolz. Wacky times, huh?

"So when I say 'eternal', I don't actually mean ETERNAL eternal, you dig what I'm saying? But when John over there writes the Apocalypse, he will be TOTALLY literal when he talks about a thousand year reign. 365,000 days; no more, no less. Anybody who says otherwise is a papist or something. Don't worry, you'll find out about the papists later. Pete, you'll LOVE this, I promise!

"But anyway, whatever, this is my blood. The blood of the new and eternal..."

the creation of a literal (rather than covenantal) New Heavens and a New Earth, free from the curse of sin and death
Yes, I'm glad to see the yet-future utopian new heavens and new earth emphasized. The question, "If you die today will you go to heaven?" seems odd.

This is not a Safe House -- it's a WAR ZONE.

I am interested in Partial Preterism, and thought in here I could learn of it without these flames.

Was I at least PARTIALLY correct?
I am coming back to Partial Preterism.......

Usually partial preterists are accepting of an 'early date' for the book of Revelation. I am now pondering (again) the work of Carston Thiede about earlier dates for the gospels than modern scholarship accepts.

In fact, I am wondering if there is not simply a GIANT SNOW-JOB by modern biblical scholarship regarding dating of NT books.

I can see the totality of the NT being written (in first form) PRIOR TO the 70 AD fall of the Temple. It is mind-boggling to me that ANY NT book would be written AFTER 70 AD with NO MENTION of the Temple destruction -- bear in mind that EVERY NT WRITER save Luke was a Jew

Good info.
What I find amazing is that the word for "Temple #2411" is used in only 1 verse outside of the Gospels and Acts out of the 67 verses it is used in.......
I have never realized that until now.......That is astounding to me............

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?page=2&strongs=G2411&t=YLT#lexResults
Strong's Number G2411 matches the Greek ἱερόν (hieron), which occurs 71 times in 67 verses

1Corinthians 9:13
Have ye not known that those working about the things of the temple/ἱερόν (hieron)<2411> -- of the temple/ἱερόν (hieron)<2411> do eat,
and those waiting at the altar -- with the altar are partakers?

When I first started to seriously consider a date in Nero's reign for Revelation, the death-blow to an early date seemed to be the death of Antipas - bishop of Pergamum - in Rev he is 'the faithful martyr', ya know, burnt alive roasted in a brass bull; and scholars had nailed that down to 92 AD.
Heck, that's barely enough to get into a 95 AD date for Revelation.

So I scoured everything I could to nail down a date for Antipas. I found one thing finally that I cannot get back to to save my life, it was sort of a Greek Orthodox version of Fox's book of martyrs -- and it said the reign of Antipas of Pergamum, and his martyrdom -- the dates were DISPUTED -- with some putting that in Nero's reign rather than Domitian.

IF Antipas' martyrdom is indeed way earlier than scholars say -- that leaves only the dubious remark by Irenaeus as a stamp for a late date of Revelation, and that can be explained.

I realize that the full scope of Theide's early dates for NT as a whole have implications far beyond eschatology -- but THE FOOT IN THE DOOR for rejecting the consensus of modern scholarship regarding dates is REJECTING THE LATE DATE FOR REVELATION.

It was Gentry's book that opened that door for me way back 5 years ago when I first came to CF.

But I never really put ALL OF IT TOGETHER - Gentry for Revelation and Thiede for the gospels, til just now.

Now I can see Matthew himself writing his gospel (and John his) before they were so advanced in years that people in that era usually didn't live that long. It is illogical that Matthew and John would be literarily silent til their deathbed to write a gospel.

It is a giant snow job. Don’t know when John wrote the revelation but know exactly when he received it. During the reign of Rome's sixth emperor. (5 are fallen, one is..,) it’s hardly conceivable that he didn’t get to writing immediately since he was told to right the vision.
Then there is Luke. Modern scholars can’t for the life of them figure out who that Theophilus guy is. Yet there he is. The high priest in the late 30’s and early 40’s. ( If my memory serves me correctly.)

https://www.gotquestions.org/Theophilus-Luke-Acts.html

"Another theory about who Theophilus was is that he was the Jewish high priest named Theophilus ben Ananus. Theophilus ben Ananus was high priest in Jerusalem in A.D. 37-41. He was the son of Annas and the brother–in-law of Caiaphus. While less popular, this theory seems to be gaining popularity among some groups. Still another theory is that the Theophilus Luke was writing to was a later high priest named Mattathias ben Theophilus, who served in Jerusalem in A.D. 65-66."

The site linked to above gives other possibilities for who Theophilus was, like Roman official, whatever...

Melting the snow of the snow job little by little...
