Maybe Trump should stop all sinners from going into the military. Like people that had divorces. People that had children before getting married. All single women. That doesn't have their hymen intact. And make single men and women take a lie detector test. On regarding if they are virgins. If not throw them out. And only put non sinners in the military.

That's what's unnerving about what Trump did. That 1 day when Trump is sitting on the toilet with his phone on his hand wanting to distract public attention away from some mess he's made for himself he'll decide to announce by Tweet that some other group is now unfit to serve. For years there was a major resistance to women being in the military. To blacks & whites serving together. Lots didn't want gays in the military. Some think atheism is a mental illness or flaw. I am not making that up, that's what some think. If Trump could have that little respect for folks who've served their country, to Tweet it out like he did about transgenders serving, he could have as little respect for anybody else.

As I've already mentioned, the issue was holding the government appropriations bill in the House. That's why he pressed the issue when he did.

What I want to know, how are the going to ban transgenders from the military?

By doing the same thing they've always done.

Is there some kind of test they can perform?

There's a physical at MEPS. If they've undergone surgery, the doctor will know.

Are they going to just ask people if they are transgendered?

On the second page, Question 2. a. (16) asks if the applicant has ever "Seen a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, counselor or other professional for any reason". If the applicant checks "YES", then as per code (6) on the first page, the applicant is to "Send all documentation relating to ANY past or present evaluation, treatment or consultation". Under DoD guidelines, "Any history or current psychosexual conditions, including, but not limited to transsexualism, exhibitionism, transvestism, voyeurism, and other paraphilias, are disqualifying."

And, if they say they aren't (assuming they are asked) and then suddenly "discover" the are after they've served a couple of years, what is going to happen?

Mathis is still working that out. However, there was evidence of their condition from their medical records that they failed to disclose, they could face a court martial for fraudulent enlistment.

So, they are announcing a policy that is awful and draconian to appeal to bigots and then not actually going to implement it.

This makes Trump's willingness to appeal to bigots a centerpiece of his presidency and his subordinates unwillingness to actually implement his policies a centerpiece of his feckless weakness.

Beck has said she was transgender that whole time, just kept it private. Other transgender folks in the military have done the same. I don't have to agree with it from a religious POV but I sure as heck respect it more than Trump finding every way to exempt himself from service, then exempting others who are willing & able to do what he never was.

Beck, like so many others, joined the service thinking their government leaders would look out for their best interests and take care of them.

I go by what the records show, which is that his transgender condition manifested itself after separation from the Navy. If you have evidence otherwise, feel free to cite it.

Most folks realize that service in the military entails discipline.

That's true and the main reason why people join the military, to get away from that silliness not have it forced upon them...

It's still an unnecessary expense, but my point was actually that such therapy is on the uptick in comparison with, say, enlistment of 60 years ago, where there were fewer human beings in America so desperate to mutilate their genitals.

They've had transsexuals for quite some time. Christine Jorgensen (the first high profile transsexual in the US media, a Normandy veteran), Wendy Carlos (the composer of a few soundtracks for movies), Danny Bunten (video game designer), all prominent transsexuals prior to the 80's. The only thing different now is that people are more open about it and politically organized. Fewer kids are having to run away from home to come out, and that is only a good thing in my book.

I think its great even many conservatives like Sen. Orrin Hatch are opposed to the President's pointless and bigoted policies. Equality is an American value, whether you are conservative or liberal.

Given that the Supreme Court has already legalized gay marriage, does "The Donald" really expect it to rule in his favor by banning transexuals in the military?

The President already knows that this pronouncement is unconstitutional, but he is willing to put the military and a lot of innocent individuals through unnecessary anguish so he can score points with his base!
