  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What law?
Based on 1John 3:4& rom3:20 I allways respond: any action that makes you conscious you sin shows you which law is placed on your heart.
However, when we speak of the law placed within us, we should not relate it to law as we understand it today, or law as the Israelites understood it when they were given it at Sanai.
Whichever country you live in you must abide by its laws or pay the penalty for non compliance. The Christians penalty has been paid by Christ.
In my view, the law placed within your heart, simply means, you in your heart desire to live as God wants you to. That is completely different from the law given at Sanai, that had the attached penalty for disobedience. That system of law ended at Calvary.
God couldn't simply create a covenant where Jesus died for our sins/ no righteousness of observing the law and leave it at that. Otherwise, we can all go out and happily sin as much as we want. By the law being in our hearts, if we as we term wilfull transgress it, our consciences are seered, for we are going against how we in our hearts want to live/ know we should live. The licence to sin if you like is removed

I agree with you, the moral law of the TC predates sinia. Once Adam and Eve ate the apple from the tree of knowledge they were aware of good and evil

Love God and neighbor which all the other commandments are based on.
Love God and love thy neighbour were OT law, but other law still existed.

If you bore false witness, would you specifically be conscious you sinned by bearing false witness, or would you only be conscious you sinned by not

loving as you should?
Through the law we become conscious of sin rom3:20
When you took the Lord's name in vain, were you specifically conscious you sinned because you took the Lord's name in vain, or were you only conscious you sinned by not loving as you should?
Through the law we become conscious of sin.
Etc

This may refer to love God and neighbor. I rest on the Sabbath and keep it holy to the best of my ability and I try not to spend any money but I am not certain that it is still a must based on other verses in the Bible from Paul.

I feel like the Lord intended worship to remain on Saturday and the enemy purposely changed it to Sunday for many. I think this is what Daniel meant when he said they will think to change the times and laws. I think worship is best on Saturday in my opinion.
You are taking the word of some Catholic cleric and those who thump the Sabbath. If you go back in History you will find that Christians started worshiping on Sunday long before there was a Catholic church.

There is no command for gentiles that became Christians to worship on any day. Sabbath observance is the selling card of the churches that sponsor it. It has nothing to do with salvation even though some make it appear that you will be lost if you ignore their selling card. Jesus came and fulfilled the law. Jesus especially told us that He kept His Father's commands and He asked us to keep His commands. One is to believe and the other is to love others as He loves us. there is no such command in the Old covenant. I wonder just how He feels when He sees those that try to mimic the laws He fulfilled? The prophet of the SDAs goes so far as to tell us the following: "It means eternal salvation to keep the Sabbath holy unto the Lord. God says: "Them that honor Me I will honor."" {6T 356.4}

I guarantee you will never really keep the Sabbath. I never did and the Israelites surely didn't One secular thought and it would be broken. Using electricity, water, gas are all making others work on the supposed holy day. Driving your car is building a fire in each stroke of the piston. You might believe I am insane for bringing up such, but go back and read all about Sabbath observance of the old covenant. Even doing your own pleasure was forbidden. Why would anyone torture themselves with all the real requirements Israelites were supposed to deal with especially when Jesus fulfilled all those requirements and we are free from the burdens that finally kept Israel from keeping the land of Canaan ?

HMMMM! I could turn your statement around and say that those who would put us back under the old covenant are the ones who are changing the laws. I don't know what changing "times" means. Jesus laws do not require us to keep days. His laws require us to love and He gave us the Holy Spirit as our help mate in doing this. The Holy Spirit is our guide not the 10 commandments. 2Cor3:7-11

Who really cares what the Catholic church proclaimed. I will stick to scripture for my belief system. My Bible tells me that the 10 commandments of the old covenant were temporary commands. They do not pertain to Christians. The Sabbath command was part of the 10 commandments that Paul wrote were only temporary and have faded away. My guide is the Holy Spirit and He has never prompted me to observe any day. 2Cor3:7-11
Count me with you. I don't understand why the law contengency needs to use religion to prove their idea. Since the RCC made this claim much later than what was practiced how did they change anything?
Col 2:16-17 ells us the Sabbath is a shadow and the reality is Jesus Christ. I, for one do not worship shadows. Shadows will not save me. I rely on the word of scripture to know that I am doing is the truth. This is how we KNOW we belong to the truth........believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. 1Jn3

16And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?17And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
This is quoted many times attempting to prove Jesus required keeping the law for salvation. You fail on 3 counts when thinking about these words you quoted.

1. Jesus would be going against OT Scripture if He was indeed teaching they're required.
2. Jesus then changed His mind (lied) in either John or Matthew.
3. You fail to recognize what the man asked in light of OT Scripture.

Good point, I was just responding to the question of when did Jesus mention the Ten Commandments regarding salvation or anything else. There is another verse as well below:

Matthew 5:18, "For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled."

The fulfillment here could be Christ's fulfillment of the Law, however.
It seems to me you don't believe Jesus did this.

BTW
I changed my mind about something once too!
I used to believe the entire law got abolished. A pentecostal was aghast! He told me it was blasphemy to believe that( in his view) The law of righteousness got removed, not the entire law.
I went away and thought about it and reconsidered my opinion.
That's exactly the reason I no longer attend many religious activities.

I didn't say they should reject it. I said it is not a must. I voted people should keep the Sabbath day holy and rest. I rest on the Sabbath day and keep it holy the best I can. I try not to spend any money which forces others to work,...
How many commandments are in Exodus 20?
