It's more important to grow as Christians, being filled with the Spirit and having our inner man renewed day by day, than to know when the night is coming.

Why worry about the inevitable? You will know when it comes; it will be most obvious to Christians.

The worst thing is - all this stuff can be a real stumbling block to the brethren. It either leads to dissensions and quarreling, much speculation, hindering of growth in grace, or much fear for many brethren. And what if your particular theory is untrue? Then you may be causing danger.

I agree, I dont know if its a human symptom or what. Even in the 60s after kennedys assassination, people apparently were waiting for his "head wound" to heal, and for him to reveal himself as the antichrist.

No, but I think guessing is just fun. I often think about the fact that we are literally approaching the 2,000 year anniversary of the crucifixion. But anyway, no matter what your prediction is, even if you actually get it right, you'd still have to admit that SOMEBODY had to get lucky and get it right. Like the lottery, so by pure default somebody is going to wind up being right.

Predicting the end makes people feel more in control of their life. But people who believe it is possible end up like the Great Disappointment of 1844 - on a mountaintop waiting for the skies to open and then nothing happens. Like "88 Reasons Why Jesus Will Come in 1988." People just never learn.

So, is about a quarter of our Bibles useless?
God has given us plenty of information about His plans for His Creation. I believe that to ignore it as prophecy, is wrong and leaves us clueless about the future.
The problem with understanding Bible prophecy arises when people choose to believe false theories and are forced to interpret verses to suit their beliefs.
The fact is, we don't need to predict anything, just read what God's anointed prophets have written. But God has hidden understanding until the time of the end, Daniel 12:10, and it is only for believers, 1 Corinthians 14:22b
As Christian believers, we should not be in the dark. 2 Thessalonians 5:5

In general, I strongly believe there is far too much argumentation on Christian social sites. And it has always been so, for the many years I've been online.

But there is a baby somewhere in the dirty bathwater. The Bible gives us end times clues for specific reasons. One is that we would be aware of what's going on, so we don't get sucked in to deception. Jesus gave apocalyptic advice in order to preserve life - life on earth and eternal life. He says many things like "see that no one leads you astray" and "see, I have told you ahead of time".

The other is hope. It's a relief to know that this present dispensation is going to come to and end - we are told it is "soon". For most people, their natural end came before the eschatological end, but simply knowing there would be an eschatological end to the present evil system is an encouragement to us, even if our natural lives don't last long enough to see it.

The problem, in my view, is people will take Bible doctrines and pound each other with them in a less than edifying spirit. And that's a problem that extends beyond the last things.

Yes we should not try to predict the Day or the hour..

But Jesus said we would know the times.. So we keep an eye out looking for the signs Jesus and the prophets told us to be looking out for.. So that we will know when to look up because we will know our redeption draws near..

Yes some people are way to preoccupied with that stuff. It will happen when God wants it to happen. My dad told me that when he was growing up back in the 70s that people were so sure that the rapture would happen really soon back then. All of the end times doomsayers and predictors like Hal Lindsay were interpreting the bible to fit their view. They have since been proven wrong and have changed their predictions to fit what is going on now. I am sure this happens in every generation. Scaring people into believing is not evangelism or witnessing.

Isaac Newton tried. He hasn't been proven wrong yet. If he does turn out to be correct, it would be an incredible thing to know that you're included in an understanding of God's Awesome Plan.

Even Jesus' own disciples were curious and asked Him very directly: “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

If Jesus didn't want us to know He just would have said something like: "no man can know the day or the hour", and that would have been it. There wouldn't be an Olivet discourse.

I'm talking about some of the stuff posted on here like for example the mark of the beast being a microchip and how some people come up with all these weird ideas...it gives me a headache...

People have taken Revelation, and other scriptures and shaped them into whatever pleases them. They 'read into them' and imagine 'things' are going to happen soon.

All through Biblical history people have thought that the end is nigh!

I believe, as I have said before, that most of Revelation has been and gone. There is strong evidence for that. Others will disagree.

Just concentrate on the here and now. We should not be trying to test God with imaginary, futuristic prophesies of our own!

The end has been predicted for our benefit. So that we may prepare for it. Prophecy also proves God's foreknowledge. If prophecy weren't so important, there wouldn't be so much of it in the bible.
