The son of a Jewish German immigrant and a high school dropout, Lehman Strauss developed a callous heart towards religious rhetoric. His days were filled with finding satisfaction by every standard set forth by the world, until Christmas Day of 1927, when a young lady who had faithfully invited Strauss to church purchased him a Bible and shared the gospel with him. Strauss’ life would be changed forever. After two years passed, he married that young girl and began a sixty-year journey of ministry with her.

When they had their first child, Strauss studied to obtain his GED and complete a college degree. Soon, he would gain a reputation as a New Testament Scholar and teach at the Philadelphia Bible Institute. As a resident professor, he also pastored two churches in the Philadelphia area until leaving his post at the college to become an itinerant preacher. God would open doors for Strauss to preach all over the world and broadcast a weekly radio show as well.

Lehman Strauss taught Old Testament history for eight years at Philadelphia Bible Institute, and served as pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, Bristol, Pennsylvania, from 1939 to 1957. He was pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church (Highland Park, Michigan) until the end of 1963 when he resigned to devote full time to an itinerant Bible conference and evangelistic ministry both in the States and abroad. Dr. Strauss was residing in Florida and writing his 19th book at age 86 when the Lord called him home in June 1997.

This week Dr Strauss has been talking about his Jewish heritage and this is available on demand using the link below (Sunday broadcast). That story will be available for a limited time. He is one of my favorite speakers.

A little Christian triumphalism here? "Look, a Jew converted to Jesus and became a <insert Christian denomination here.> This proves that we have the right religion."

I hope this is not what you are doing.

Heck, Christians even incorporated triumphalism in their church architecture.

Awww c'mon, Steve. Have you ever heard Dr. Lehman Strauss speak? He has blessed me enormously. Would you care to listen to him?

I don't think that Rocky posted this thread to gloat at all, but to give Dr. Lehman's story, which in itself, can be an inspiration.

God bless you.

He advocates the abolition of the Torah which is against the SOP here.

The "eleventh" or "new" commandment - "that ye love one another" - was given by the Lord himself to His believing church and few Christians doubt its importance in their lives.

This is not the case, however, with The Ten Commandments. The Law of Moses is probably one of the most criticized and misunderstood portions of Scripture.

While some religious leaders make the Law the sole ground of man's salvation, others disregard it as of no value in this age of grace. What should the Law mean to Christians? Dr. Strauss answers that question in 11 searching and thoughtful sermons.

He writes, "Now that Christ has come, the Law is done away...In this present age (it) is not in force, either as a basis of salvation or as the rule of the Christian life
. But this doesn't mean that the Law has ceased to have any value to the Christian. Exodus 20 is as much a part of the Canon of Scripture as any other chapter in the Bible" - and as profitable for the believer's upbuilding.

If Jesus came to do away with the Torah he is a false prophet. Lehman, a Jew, should have known this. Sadly, he seems to have become apostate to the faith of Jesus, not an advocate for it.

He is a great teacher but this forum does seem an odd place to post it.

What is the Torah, exactly?
Type in "What Is Torah" in Google Search and you will find out all you want to know and then some. For example ... Judaism 101: Torah ... and many other informative links ... Yeah, Google!

Hoping you will find this is helpful brinny ... :)

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. - James 1:1

My feelings (correct me if I'm wrong) are that the Messianic church is a scattered flock. Some may be Orthodox, Catholic, Pentecostal, Protestant, Charismatic, Word of Faith, or some may have their own Messianic church they enjoy attending. I consider Lehman Strauss a Messianic who just happened to be in the Baptist church.

I cannot believe that Lehman Strauss was 60 years in ministry, obtained his doctorate, taught Old Testament studies at a university... And was oblivious to his Jewish heritage.
What leads you to conclude that he "was oblivious to his Jewish heritage" ?

You read 'the twelve tribes scattered abroad' as referring to Christians? I read it as referring to 'the twelve tribes scattered abroad.'

Is it your intent in this MJ forum to rub in your theology when you say, "I am Pentecostal... Why would I want to promote the Baptist" or just your wry sense of humor?

I was trying to say that I am not promoting any denomination here.

Not Pentecostal
Not Baptist

I was trying to answer that to a previous post. The man I was talking about was a Dr Leyman Strauss, who taught the bible with grace and dignity. If I would have just ignored the previous poster I would have been better off, apologies.
