Is it essential to quote the Bible in order to give good Christian advice?

[QUOTE="Didn't Jesus emphasise the value of humility?[/QUOTE]

Yes, He did. And He also left us His words to READ them for ourselves so no one can teach us false doctrine. Get yourself a KJV and read it.
The Roman Catholic Church is the religion of the AntiChrist. It is a religion of trusting own works to maybe make it to heaven IF one dies in a state of grace. The bible does not teach that.
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace ARE ye saved through faith; and that NOT of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast."

I thought Jesus WAS the New Testament.

4For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily. (2 Corinthians 11::4)

So my question to you is......

Which Jesus? The Jesus of the Bahais, or maybe the Jesus of the Zoroastrian, or the Jesus of the Mormons who is the brother of Lucifer aka Satan, or the Jesus of the Jehovah's Witnesses, or the Jesus of Scientology and the New Age, maybe the Jesus of the Unitarians.

So which Jesus are you taking about, if you don't have Bible in hand as the living biographical account of the real Jesus.

If you don't have the testimony of the 1st century apostolic Jewish church you certainly will put up with the other Jesus's and their gospels.

I am catholic by the way. I rarely quote scripture. That is partly because I don't have the knowledge of many good CF members who are raised on the Bible as the number one authority.
But I see my role in helping a fellow human being as first, being there for them. As an equal. Not as their scripture quoting superior. As if the OP's lack of knowledge of scripture is contributing to the problem.
See them first as fellow travellers. Don't condescend to them as if you are closer to Heaven , as if you have some special access to God's real intentions. Remember the importance of humility? Giving advice still requires humility. Didn't Jesus emphasise the value of humility?

ok...what happened?

I guess the scripture quoting community might take offence. I actually admire their knowledge though.

Can't speak for others but I don't take offence...I don't have a lot of knowledge but I'm working on it...it's
been a long process that started when I was very young and now I'm older an coming into my golden years(so to speak.)
Scripture is precious to me me now that I'm older and living on a fixt income, neither me or my husband are able
to work, so we have lots more time to spend in God's Word than we use to and since we don't have much money
to allow us to do anything to costly, we take comfort in the Lord and His Word.

I don't tend to think anybody is being high fluting if they give advice using scripture or if they use big words...but that's just me...I am finding that I enjoy learning now more than I ever did. If there's a word I don't know I just "Google" it and
find out what it means.
Also, I ain't good at reading what the other person's actual intent is in they written responses, I tend to believe it's good to try to believe that we all are doing the best we can on this forum... you know, just trying to help out another person who is
struggling with whatever problem....sorry for rambling on.

Nice post. Thanks. This just proves we all mean well. That we can come across as weird to others because we have different upbringings and influences in life. I'd like to think we're all going to Heaven, if we make an effort to "run the straight race" in this life.

The written Word of God is your only shield against the end of days deception. Be strong and be comforted in your heart, that the situation you are in is a blessing, for you have been called out of the world (Babylon) and now are conscripted to defend the faith. Your eagerness and hunger for the written Word will bring you much knowledge and wisdom, persevere in it and live long and prosper in the Word, for then it becomes living in you and your husband.

Blessings to you and your family.

NO! I don't always quote Scripture. I do try to give anyone I talk to a Godly answer, but I use my common sense, trained by 8 years of Catholic School, years going to church with a Bible in my arms, and then being a monk.

I don't always give a gentle answer. I will heap scorn upon things I consider silly, and I will loudly criticize someone who is more intent on giving someone else rules instead of loving someone as a neighbor.

But when someone asks me a questions, I will try to give them the best answer I can, and I will use the Bible as a resource. I will also use wikipedia, an encyclopedia or two, even Strunk and White if I think the reply calls for it.

I'm concerned about your second pararaph. Heaping scorn and loudly criticizing someone is a poor witness.

The Word and Jesus agree in one
In the Word, Jesus himself is referred to as the Word.
The Word is the sword of the spirit, and rightly divides between Spirit and flesh.
The Word is to be obeyed.
The Word is the bread of life.
The Word and the Spirit agree in
one.
The Word proceeds from the mouth of God.
There is no bible, it's a mistake to call it that. It is the Word of God.
Ask God to show you what is the proper version of it which he considers the best version for people who want to get deep in
The Word, and then study it and ask him to grant wisdom and revelation in the Word, and understanding for how to apply it in life.

Not absolutely every time, but all good advice comes only from the Bible or from Biblical principles.

Quoting scripture does not mean you are superior, unless you are motivated by pride.

Seems ironic that on this forum versus a secular forum, some would oppose Scripture being posted.

With that perspective, at least we can work around our brains (so to speak) and help our spirits with Yahweh's word as shown in Scripture such as "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

Just know my advice with best intentions is empty and shallow compared to His Word.

Hey all verse quoting posters
Please don't let me stop you from posting as you normally do. I just thought you'd like to hear a different perspective.
Go for it. whatever the Holy Spirit in you wants you to do. I don't want to cramp your style.
