When does a person shift from being merely human and officially become a cyborg?

We all know that persons with pace-makers and artificial limbs aren’t looked upon in that way. However this following fellow, Neil Harbisson, was officially declared a cyborg when he had an antenna receiving signals from satellites was implanted in his skull.

Neil Harbisson (born 27 July 1984) is a Catalan-raised, British-born[14] avant-garde artist and cyborg activist based in New York City.[15] He is best known for being the first person in the world with an antenna implanted in his skull[16] and for being officially recognized as a cyborg by a government.[17] His antenna uses audible vibrations in his skull to report information to him. This includes measurements of electromagnetic radiation, phone calls, music, as well as video or images which are translated into sound.[18] His wifi enabled antenna also allows him to receive signals and data from satellites.[19]

Since 2004, international media has described him as the world's first cyborg[20] or the world's first cyborg artist,[21] for expressing himself artistically through a new sense created by the permanent union between electronic components and his brain. In 2010, he co-founded the Cyborg Foundation, an international organisation that defends cyborg rights, promotes cyborgism as an art movement and supports people who want to become cyborgs.[22] In 2015 he co-founded Cyborg Nest,[23] a company that creates artificial senses to extend the perception of reality.[24]

Neil Harbisson - Wikipedia

Doesn’t this mean that the criteron is that our brains must be involved and must attain some power beyond the normal fot the classification of cyborg to be valid? If a microchip implanted in the brain to control epilepsy doesn’t transform us into a cyborg but another microchip allowing us access to the Internet does, then that conclusion would seem obvious. What do you think?

do you think having robotic parts is similar to transpecism in the sense that it perverts God's creation?

Thanx for the feedback:

No, I would gladly accept an artificial joint if needed and I don't think that God would be offended by it. But that is a very interesting question which brings up many possibilities that might indeed be viewed as perversions.
Such as choosing to live in a micro-chipped cerebral-implant-induced reality. That would indeed be a perversion since God's plan wasn't for mankind to retreat from reality in that way. So it all depends on type and the degree to which the technology is taken

Does the bible talk about these things being sin?

We can make inferences based on scriptures which indicate what the purpose for mankind being placed on Earth is.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So is any such transformations in any way impede that duty then they are a sin.

I think he's still a human and not at all a cyborg. Interesting thread idea. I'd think a cyborb would have to be created from the start and never human -- it's arguably possible you can take a human and transform them completely into a robot, but you'd have to kill their entire living body or at least most of it in the process - and let's admit we are nowhere near that developed yet. I doubt we'd ever be that advanced with this branch of science, although who knows.

What about things like cloning and 3 parents? How are they related to that verse?

I think the line is when the being is more synthetic than natural. In other words, having an artificial arm or a chip in your brain to control seizures does not make you a cyborg or a robot. I think the line is cross when the technology, regardless of how much it resembles natural processes is controlling the being, keeping it in homeostasis, in other words, it is dependent on the technology within it's body actually life. In other words, a cyborg cannot naturally die, a human can. The Hosts from Westword, Synths from Fallout, Arnold's character in Terminator, are cyborgs, they are ultimately robots and machines regardless of how complex.

I recall a story called gray matters where
brains had to fight and scheme to get
mechanical transport body so they could
get out of storage.

They never thought of them selves as
cyborgs.

Cloning is unnatural and goes against what Genesis clearly tells mankind to do. The established arrangement in Genesis is for two parents. So obviously that is how God wants us to do things. But I would like to know at what point does a person become a cyborg? What is your opinion?

So cloning is wrong for the same reason homosexuality is? It tampers with something sacred? That's my speculation.

I don't know if a cyborg is on the same category.

The traditional description of a cyborg is a bionic human, someone with mechanically or electrically enhanced body parts that give them better than human abilities (e.g. the Borg in Star Trek, or the '6 Million Dollar Man'). Maybe the usage is changing due to films where partially biological androids are called cyborgs.

Where a government decides to draw the line between human and cyborg is up to them - I don't suppose having advanced hearing aids will count...

That sounds right. Whatever God has established as sacred is sacred. About a cyborg, if the cyborg becomes more machine than human then he is tampering with the image of God in which he was created and substituting it with something else. When God promises to restore mankind to physical perfection it wont be via technology. It will be via restoration to human perfection. Human perfection is not in harmony with being a cyborg. Being a cyborg is an expression of mankind wanting to solve problems related to illness, accidents, mortality or dissatisfaction with just be plain human. Such problems will be solved by God himself and being just human is described as being good enough.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Is that why you think there are generational curses when people have kids outside of marriage? It is more than being physically intimate outside of marriage (fornication), it is God's punishment for going against his sacred plan of family. Do you agree?

I understand those generational consequences pronouncements as evidence that what a man sows he reaps and that those actions affect his descendants based on that cause and effect rule. For example, if a man chooses to become a cyborg then the way he interacts with his children who must deal emotionally and intellectually which his dehumanized condition will affect them in perhaps a dehumanizing accursed ways since children learn via parental example or suffer consequences of parental decisions.

Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

By definition a cyborg MUST be partly biological. Otherwise it would be an android. The Borg are indeed an excellent example albeit very extreme one since they are practically all machine and their human component seems subservient. But there is definitely no ambiguity there-they are definitely cyborgs.
