• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wow. Is this intended to be a parody of bad creationist arguments?

Just a head's up here: the Second Law of Thermodynamics does not make evolution impossible. If it did, it would also make babies, waterfalls and hurricanes impossible. Anyone who tells you that it does, knows too little about physics to be worth listening to on the subject.

The numbers do though, and numbers don't lie, you just don't understand science ..

Numbers don't lie, but people lie with numbers all the time. That video is lying with numbers. It calculates the probability of all the proteins in a modern organism spontaneously assembling themselves entirely at random. Well, yeah, that probability is really, really small -- which is probably why no scientist proposes that anything of the sort really happened. The actual probability of life arising spontaneously is something we simply cannot calculate today: humans just don't know enough about chemistry to figure out whether it's possible or not.

(As for understanding science, my scientific credentials are a heck of a lot better than the guys making these videos.)

Do you have a substantive argument to make, or is being insulting your only tool for persuading other Christians of the truth of your position?

(ETA: Oh, and I've gotten my money back many times over -- I've been a working scientist earning a paycheck for several decades now.)

I am serious . Deal with the video and God
I am serious too. The video is lying. I'm not sure what dealing with God has to do with that fact. Do you think I'd be more godly if I ignored the falsehoods? Take a really simple one: the claim that any probability less than 1/10^50 is so small that an event with that probability will never occur. If you pick up a deck of 52 cards and shuffle it, the probability that you'll get any particular arrangement of cards is well over a quadrillion times smaller than that number -- and yet such an event happens every time you shuffle a deck.

Let the black and red cards represent either a dot or a dash on Morse Code and read it to me ^_^..
Do you agree that low probability events do happen or not?
