  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think you can hate the Patriots all you want, but there's no denying that Belichick is one of the greatest coaches, and maybe the greatest coach, of all time. The man has won five out of seven Super Bowls, and especially this year, did it without a lot of great talent. His teams just execute consistently and they win games because of it. As for Brady, a friend of mine is of the opinion that Brady is a system quarterback and never would have had the same success if he played for another franchise. I'm inclined to agree with him. I think Brady deserves a lot of credit, but Belichick deserves credit more than anyone. The man is a football genius who made Tom Brady who he is. The Patriots get a lot of hate, some of it deserved, but at the end of the day they have been an impressive franchise over the past 20 years.

I dont mind if people hate the Pats or Brady.... it just seems far more people do it because its the "in thing" like people loathing Nickleback than any valid reasons on the team or men themselves. I defend the Pats for that reason alone..... aside from the fact I feel so much of the hatred placed on them is unwarranted I couldn't care less who likes who.

Ask me why I hate the Cowboys...... I have reasons.
Ask me why I hate the Titans........ I have reasons and a history.

Yeah, the Patriots hate just gets really old because here in Indiana it's universal because they beat the Colts so many times in the playoffs.

I just debated one of my pastors why Manning was still the GOAT over Brady just to mess with him. But I had to suck it up, swallow my pride, and admit that Brady is probably better. :D

Guess my humor is still not in line with the boards sense of humor. Hoping I don't get a ban or something. I forget the rules on all that. :(

I'm still trying to figure out how you didn't think that was offensive and in really poor taste lol.

It really depends on what criteria you use. Manning would have been successful with most franchises. Heck, he took two different franchises to multiple Super Bowls. Brady may not have been as successful with another team. Brady definitely has a better resume, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's higher on the all-time list than Manning. It just all depends on the criteria you're using. We shouldn't forget that Manning was a Colt for much longer than he was a Bronco though ;)

Haha I know. I'd probably still say Manning was the GOAT even if he never came to Denver. I think the number one criteria for being the best at what you do isn't super bowls, but stats. Super Bowls are team sports and they often say it's defense that wins championships anyway. But if you have the all-time records for TDs, yards, records for most in a season, multiple MVP awards, at least one ring (not deciding factor, but important), you're on the list. Marino doesn't have a ring, but he's still top-5.

My list would be:
-Brady
-Manning
-Montana
-Elway
-Marino

My list would be anyone playing before the 80s as it was a MUCH more brutal league for a QB. None of the QBs today could hang in the league of old IMO.

I don't know. I'd say it's tougher to play now. Those older guys couldn't hang around with guys like Miller, Mack, or Strahan rushing them. Or how fast defense has gotten. Defenses were much more simple back then too.

I think he's a legend in his own right, but if I had to pick 5 or even 10 of the top QBs to play for me, I don't know that I'd pick Favre. He's a poor man's John Elway :D

But it IS a softer league today. It MIGHT move faster today.... that doesnt mean its tougher. Now you sneeze at a QB its a penalty possibly a fine..... which means that the players aren't going as full bore at the QB like they used to. (When penalties were few and far between)

Yes, the players may be more athletic with the "marvels" in sports nutrition over the years and all.... but still........ if I can snap a telephone pole in half........ what good is it if all I have to do is sneeze and I get penalized? Im no more or less intimidating than the average man because Im controlled.

We have had this talk before with the PM GOAT talk..... but yeah. "All Time" is what gets me in talking of anyone that is playing today as the GOAT. Great..... no problem "all time" tsssssssss Im not so sure.

The league of today is also a pass happy one..... not like of the past so records don't paint the full picture.
