  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Violations of the laws of nature is the very definition of magic.

That would be fiction. It seems that you continually mix up reality with fiction.

You said that the laws could be violated and changed at any moment due to the whims of a deity. That's the very definition of laws that are untrustworthy.
Sigh! In other words NASA isn't planning to make warp drive a reality and the mathematics proving that it is feasible are bogus? You seem out of touch with current scientific theories and investigations. Also, just because it appears in science fiction doesn't mean that EVERYTHING in the story or in the film is non-scientific drivel. You aren't familiar with hard science fiction either it seems.
Alcubierre drive - Wikipedia

As for magic, well, if you so averse to magic as you are trying to appear, then why do you swallow the magical story of the billion happy astronomically improbable accidents abiogenesis Mickey Mouse story hook line and sinker? Seems to me like your aversions to magic only kicks in if an ID is involved. Also your idea of fish turning into people seems rather magical as well, Sort of like that frog-into-handsome-prince bedtime story they tell toddlers to put them to sleep.

If you can't answer the question, try to change the subject? Sorry, no one's going to fall for that.

This website wasn't provided for an inquisition of Christians my friend.

This part of the website was provided for debate. If you can't answer a question, you're probably not doing too well.

How does the supposed warp drive violate any laws of physics?

As for magic, well, if you so averse to magic as you are trying to appear, then why do you swallow the magical story of the billion happy astronomically improbable accidents abiogenesis Mickey Mouse story hook line and sinker?

There is nothing magical about natural processes. Do you still not understand what magic is?
Also your idea of fish turning into people seems rather magical as well,

I have no such idea. I have never claimed that any fish turned into a human, nor do I believe that. Fish no more turned into humans than your great-great-grandfather suddenly turned into you.

I see nothing irrational in the ID providing food for a people he has chosen. The faith being spoken of in the quotation is the form belief that there is an order in the universe established by a creator. That there are laws that we can count on. Buttressed by that firm belief in universal, divinely-established laws Christian scientists based their experiments and confidently formulated theories. Had they doubted in a lawgiving creator there would have been uncertainty on whether their conclusions could be extrapolated universally since events within a universe based on whimsical chance can be unpredictable. That is the meaning of what was quoted and not the blind faith you are misrepresenting it with.

Assuming a rational universe with consistant laws of nature, does not require the belief in a bronze age god.

There are scientists who are Christians but none of them use their Christianity to do their science.
That's because today's science is a form of witchcraft.

Studying and describing physical reality is a withcraft?
I don't call calling oneselves "wise men" as describing physical reality.

In witchcraft, the term is "wizan."

Non sequitur.

Your inability to understand terms and definitions have nothing to do with science.

What about Christian scientists of the present? Like Francis Collins, who is a leading geneticist and science communicator?
What about him?
In his 2006 book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief, Collins wrote that scientific discoveries were an "opportunity to worship" and that he rejected both and that he rejected both creationism and intelligent design.

SOURCE

Get real.

'Scientific discoveries are an opportunity to worship'?

Seriously?

That's probably the excuse he uses to work on Sundays and Wednesdays, instead of going to church.

Granted ... I don't know him, but ... well ... no comment.

Read what he said about abortion too.

In my unprofessional opinion, he's playing both sides of the fence.

Are you on good terms with the poster known as 'dad' on these forums? Don't you often agree with him?
