Is following the 10 commandments required for salvation?

You state that me following the ten commandments means thst if I have an impure thought I can not be in a saved stste according to my thoughts. How so?

I never said "keep" the ten commandments I said "follow". I.E. That is the way to live my life by the tenants of the ten commandments. The bible is quite clear on this. Jesus said not everone who called his name would enter the kingdom of God but those that did yhe will of his father in heaven. And God showed us His will in the ten commandments. We are told in many places who will not enter the kingdom of God and it lists liars, adulterers, murderers, etc... everything the ten commandments says not to do.

Again, I said "follow" not "keep". Just the same way to "believe in" Jesus is to follow his teachings.

This whole thing comes from a documentary I was watching on TV where an assassin for the mexican cartel pulls out a prayer and reads it nefore he goes off to murder someone because he believes he doesn't have to follow the ten commandments to be saved.

Please, inderstand the difference between keepong and following the ten commandments. Look at the definitions if you need to. You are putting beliefs in my head that aren't there because you are not understanding what I am yrying to say wjen I say "follow the ten commandments"

Therefore no one will be declared righteous/justified/saved in His sight by observing the law. Rather through the law we become conscious of sin rom3:20

Why do you keep mentioning the ten commandments?
Why not the beatitudes instead?
Lets clarify.
If you look at a woman with lust in your eye you have already committed adultery with her in your heart.
Do not just say. I do not murder. If you get angry with your brother you are in danger of the fires of hell.

If you fail to follow the beatitudes you cannot be saved?

Worded another way, is someone who willfully continues to break the tenants of the ten commandments saved? That assassin for the mexican cartel who makes his living by willfully breaking the commandment "thou shalt not kill" saved? I believe the bible says definately not.

But you do have to be perfect to be saved under the law. Did you not know that?

For if those who live by law are heirs faith has no value and the promise is worthless, because law brings wrath

The reason law brings wrath is because you cannot meet the standard set under it to be saved

When people stress they obey the law, they mean the legalistic law, and the law that can be seen on the outside. They clean the outside of the cup.
However, they cannot obey the law that relates to the inner man. The law that only they and God knows they continually break.
That is part of the law too!

I loved my mother dearly. When she was diagnosed terminally ill with cancer, my wife and I went to her home to look after her during her illness. I did not covet what was hers. I honoured her. I did not want to murder her, steal what was hers, or bear false witness against her. My happiness was seeing her happy in the time she had left to live.
Did I have to think of the ten commandments and seek to obey them in order to treat my mother that way? No! I never once thought of them during that time. I acted that way because I loved my mother dearly.

You have quoted from the OT hating falsehood. Therefore I am sure you would not reply with such.
