  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How can the grace of God be resisted by some yet received by others?

It's because of our sin.

Prepare to die in your sins, if you imagine that God accepts you or judges you based upon your works. You miss the mark. You're a dead man walking.

Have you not read this verse?

Acts 10:35
But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

Sorry Menno, it's not my imagination as you imagine.

Have you not read these verses also?

John 5
28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice
29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

And these verses for you perusal also -

Romans 2
6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

These verses speak of works, life, and acceptance.

Is there scripture which says that the unredeemed fear God and can please Him?

You can't be a Calvinist without knowing Arminianism, because Calvinism is the response to, and refutation of, and antithesis of Arminianism.
I couldn't affirm TULIP if I didn't know what TULIP was in response to (the 5 points of Arminianism)
Depends on who's interpretation of Arminianism you have been taught. Here is what one Calvinist author has said on free will to choose... "This states that though man is fallen, he is not incapacitated by the sinful nature and can freely choose God. His will is not restricted and enslaved by his sinful nature."

Now here is what an Arminian theologian and Biblical scholar wrote...
For by grace are ye saved, through faith - As ye are now brought into a state of salvation, your sins being all blotted out, and you made partakers of the Holy Spirit; and, having a hope full of immortality, you must not attribute this to any works or merit of yours; for when this Gospel reached you, you were all found dead in trespasses and dead in sins; therefore it was God’s free mercy to you, manifested through Christ, in whom ye were commanded to believe; and, having believed by the power of the Holy Spirit, ye received, and were sealed by, the Holy Spirit of promise; so that this salvation is in no sense of yourselves, but is the free gift of God; and not of any kind of works; so that no man can boast as having wrought out his own salvation, or even contributed any thing towards it. By grace arc ye saved, through faith in Christ. This is a true doctrine, and continues to be essential to the salvation of man to the end of the world." Adam Clarke - Lived 1760-1832

They don't sound the same do they? No, Arminius did not teach that man was saved by his works, or that man could desire God, come to repentance, or even understand the Gospel on his own. We see that God must give mercy/ grace in order for man to have faith to believe God.

There was a context to my statement.

Please tell me what it was as you have a bad habit of giving one liners that don't provide adequate information. I've seen what you do over a period of 11 years.

The context was the post I replied to. My post was not made in a vacuum

Are there unredeemed in every nation?

Or, are you saying the redeemed must work righteousness and fear God to be accepted?

How is one brought into this state of salvation?

John 16

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

I asked a specific question in relationship to your post. Obviously, I can't make you answer it.

In their view, God's grace is always powerless to save unless man allows it. And it's powerless to keep man saved unless man agrees to let Him.
Apparently grace is as powerful as God desires it to be in accomplishing His ends. And since He desires none to perish, exactly how overwhelming is grace?

Now that I specifically answered your question, see post 337, I would like you to answer these simple questions that can be answered with one word.

Since becoming a child of God .....

1) Have you ever sinned?
2) Have you ever made a mistake?
3) If so did God cause you to sin?
4) If so did God cause you to make a mistake?
5) If so did God allow you to sin?
6) If so did God allow you to make a mistake?

He desires none of the elect to perish.

Context, context, context.
