Should Christians rest on the Sabbath (saturday) and rejoice on the Lords day (sunday)?

I agree with you we are counted righteous by faith but after we are saved we continue in good works.
I am not sure about your kiddos but I have to give mine some rules and direction. I can not let them play in the street or touch things that are hot. I give them instructions to help them learn how to live, just like our Father gives us instructions on how to live. He does it because He loves us and He does not desire us to hurt ourselves. He created us He knows what will help us and what will hurt us. He wrote them down for us so we don't have to guess, I think that is a pretty loving Father.
I was meaning how a child is simple in faith. Not any particular child and it's just an example like maybe say a 3 year old. They don't have much or any past reference so us as a dad are their everything like Christ is ours.

It appears that the Church did not keep the Sabbath but instead kept Sunday the Lord's Day from it's inception.

Please see this article that is filled with quotes from the early church fathers: http://www.catholic.com/tracts/sabbath-or-sunday

Also, in Acts of the Apostles 15 when commands were given to the gentile converts they were not commanded to keep the Sabbath or the law of Moses.

Thanks for the information, however I have read about the early church fathers many of them were Anti Semitic and that is the reason they did not choose to keep Sabbath on the 7th day or biblical feast days. I choose to follow the word of God.

Acts 15:19 Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, 20 but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. 21 For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”

They were going to learn from Torah- Moses, they were taught in the Synagogue on the Sabbath. Because man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the Father.
Shalom

I definitely would never say we have the license to sin. I just believe when we have faith in Jesus and we're walking in a relationship with him that we wont satisfy the desires of the flesh. When we are walking in the spirit.
Agreed, and when we are in a relationship with someone we do what they like and we try not to do what they don't like. God has showed us all through His word what He likes and what He hates. He gives us stories, examples people like David who was a man after God's heart. He gives us others such as Jeroboam who turned from God to do things his own way and to worship as he choose which lead the entire house of Israel into captivity with the Assyrians. When one is in a relationship they learn as much as they can about the one they love and try best to live out that love.

Did you read the entire chapter? It appears you missed some parts.

Acts of the Apostles 15:5
But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Acts of the Apostles 15:10
Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts of the Apostles 15:19-20
Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

So you see the law of Moses and the Sabbath were not given as a command to the gentile converts in the early church.

No one here that I know of has ever said keeping the Sabbath is required for salvation, or atonement.

So, since you apparently agree keeping the Sabbath is not a requirement for Christians, can you elaborate what your objection is to me saying it's optional?

I mean, you agree it's not required yet you don't agree it's optional.
How does that work exactly?

we're done talking

I guess the 9th commandment IS optional in your eyes then?

The ECF were disciples of the apostles so they would not have led the church astray.

To be clear, I'm on your side on the whole Sabbath thing, but this comment is simply unsupportable.

Scripture itself cites many examples of the apostles own flocks going astray, even into mass apostasy.

Proximity to an apostle in no way guarantees correctness of doctrine.

I have been been corrected that although a Pope, Pope Sylvester, made the change of the day of worship from Saturday to sunday it was not Pope Constantine like I said. I stand corrected.

Mr. Langston, please try to pay ATTENTION! Popes have never declared Sunday MUST be the day of worship. If you wish to worship on Saturday, fine. Also, Constantine was never elected Pope.

You are misrepresenting what I said in the very quote you replied to.

It is you that misrepresent what I said and then levy sarcasm and false charges against me based on your own fiction.

Being you aren't able to comport yourself and speak to what was written, I reiterate what I said. We're done talking. Don't call me a liar again based on your own written fiction .

The Sabbath is a sign between God and His faithful people

What is this unhealthy fascination that you have about which day of the week you are called to worship?

If you feel that it is necessary to worship on Saturday, go ahead. But please give us the same courtesy that we extend to you.

So you see the law of Moses and the Sabbath were not given to as a command to the gentile converts in the early church.
So what you are stating is we only have to keep these four things?
1. abstain from pollutions of idols,
2. and from fornication,
3. and from things strangled,
4.and from blood
I see nothing about murder, lying, coveting, honoring ones parents? Does it not make sense that they would be learning the rest on the Sabbath in the Synagogues?

The problem was that they were making them become circumcised in order to be saved Read Acts 15:1. I would love to share something with you that just proves how amazing God's word really is. Read the Exodus, it creates an amazing symbolic picture of how this works. First Israel is in bondage with Pharaoh in Egypt (that is our sinful nature our flesh) Next they are saved from that bondage by the blood of the lamb Passover (just as Yeshua is our Passover.) Israel was not saved because of anything they did, They are taken through the sea (baptism). He gave them the law. Then they are in the wilderness (that is where we are tempted) They are lead into the promised land by a man called Joshua (Yeshua).

May I please ask you, what is so bad about keeping Gods commandments that you spend so much effort trying to do away with them?

Day of rest? Rest from what? What works are Christians bound to that we need "rest"? Christ is our rest.

Imagine you took a job at a company because you needed to work to pay your bills and debts (like we all do). Part of your job is that you get paid vacations. When you want a vacation, you approach the boss and ask to schedule your vacation time and you get that set vacation time off with pay, as a means to rest from your work at that company. As you work there, you grow to love your job. You become friendly with the owner of the company who is your boss. One day, your boss calls you into the office and says "I like you and I have something I want to do for you. I want to give you $50 million so that you can live out your life debt-free and with no expenses. I hope we will remain good friends as well. Do you accept this offer?" You (of course) say "YES!!! Thank you so much! Thank you thank you thank you!!!" But you also add, "You know, working for you has been great and I want to continue. I don't need a paycheck, I will work for free. I want to be part of your company and I want to show you my appreciation by continuing to work for you!" Your boss thanks you and accepts your offer to work for free.

A few weeks later, you approach your boss - no, your friend and say, "Hey, I would like to take next week off as my vacation." Your friend says to you, "OK, so why are you telling me? You don't get 'vacation days' anymore, you are working for free. If you want a day off you can just take it. You don't have a paid job anymore. I can't 'fire' you from a job you don't have. I appreciate your working for free but you have no obligations and therefore no 'vacation days'. You are free. You are free to never come back here again (although I appreciate that you do). So if you want time for vacation just take it."

I think that's how it is for a Christian who wants to keep the Sabbath. They are clinging to the old convention of a set day of rest that was provided under the works-based system of the Law despite the fact that Jesus redeemed us from the debts and expenses of the Law. Jesus is not our task master but our friend. We have no need of "rest" from works that Jesus has already freed us from. Of course, a Christian with a true faith will still take the time to serve Christ and make that his priority but that is not an obligation. It is the natural outcome of a person being thankful for redemption/salvation.

That's how I see the Sabbath. It would feel foolish to me to keep it out of obligation. It's like keeping dietary laws, it is fulfilled in Christ and to keep them is to deny the fulfillment of such laws.

Considering my analogy, imagine if your friend who gave you the $50 million explained what he did to you yet you kept INSISTING that he must approve your "vacation days" and that you take only the limited amount you had before... It would be insulting to him. it would be like saying you don't trust him, you're not grateful for the $50 million, etc. That's how I see it for a Christian to observe the Sabbath as in the 10 commandments. Christ is our Sabbath and we should recognize that and honor that.
Ask your self the same question bro, why did God rest on the 7th day? From what did God rest on the 7th day? God made the 7th day to rest and for us to acknowledge and to worship Him as our creator. ((God set an example to work 6 days and rest on the 7th day)) it's that simple. The Sabbath was made for mankind not just for the Jews brother. God bless you

Hey if you want it rest on the Sabbath then God bless you brother, but other Christians that don't feel obligated to do that and want to use their freedom in Christ should not be judged.

Now if only anti-Sabbath persons would extend the same courtesy to those who rest on the Sabbath Saturday that would be true peace.

No one is ANTI Sabbath that I've read here... Everyone agrees that Keeping the Sabbath is just fine IF YOU WANT TO.
The disagreement lies between those of us who say it's optional and those who say it's required... (weirdly though I just found out some seem to say it's both required AND optional... Still waiting for an explanation on that one)

I wouldn't judge a Christian for wanting to rest on the Sabbath even though in my mind I don't think it's a requirement. if it's something that brings them close to God and they're able to worship God through doing that I don't see what the problem is with it

What makes you believe that the gentiles were keeping the Sabbath? Simply because they came to hear the word of God on that day? That doesn't mean that they were observing the 4th commandment.
((the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath)) Act 13:44 And the next Sabbath day came almost the whole citie together to heare the word of God. Here we see Gentiles who where now believers in Christ so that would make them Christians like you and me. If we are not to keep the Sabbath day no more then Paul should of let them know and made it clear that the Sabbath 4th Commandment is no more a day or rest and that Jesus was our new 7th day Sabbath, but we don't see that here. Instead we see that they wait it till next sabbath meaning that almost the whole city was not in business because almost every one from the city was there listening to Paul preach the gospel on a Sabbath day so you can be sure that this new believers in Christ kept the Sabbath.

Those gentiles are not Christian, they were instead followers of OC Judaism. That's why they wanted to hear more about the Gospel.
