Schaff is just one voice, and his scholarship is considered by many outdated

His scholarship is more recent than either Ignatius, or Calvin -- and he is not the only scholar to notice that the entire pile of letters is either proven fraud or rife with interpolation. (And it is doubtful that the condemnation of Schaff's work by either conservative or evangelical scholars is even remotely what you claim)

Especially considering that the Syriac version of Ignatius' Letters - has only 3 and given that the greek text does not use the term "Lord's Day" at all.

“There is, however, in the original no word or phrase which corresponds to the phrase ‘the Lord’s day,’ or to the word ‘ keeping: the literal translation is, ‘No longer observing Sabbaths, but living according to the Lord’s life, [Greek phrase] in which also our life is sprung up’. Indeed, the archbishop admits, in a note, that this translation would be correct; while his own is by many thought inconsistent, not only with the expressions in the original, but with the whole scope of the passage. (See Domville, I, 241-251; and Powell in Kitto’s Cyclop,II, 270, first edition.)

I choose to believe the Bible and "notice" the statement of scholars that all agree that the majority of the pile of Ignatius letters are all fraudulent and that they have no way of isolating the interpolations in whatever pile is left to dissect. So then -- its the Bible for the Christian.

The early Christian Church was originally no more than another branch of Judaism. They worshipped in temple and synagogue with their Jewish brothers and sisters. In some rare cases, they constituted the majority and were able to control the order of service, readings and such. However, in most cases they were a minority and could not insist on their own readings or rituals. The custom arose that these Jewish-Christians would meet again on the day (our Sunday) following the Sabbath for a service on their own. Tensions rose within the Jewish community until about AD90 when the rabbinical council of Jamniah decided upon the scriptures that would be permissible for use in synagogue services. This effectively ended Christian participation in Sabbath synagogue worship. They did however in most cases continue the tradition of the Sunday services. This eventually became the norm and was in fact made law by Constantine. In due course theology was invented to justify the change.

. Julius Scott provides the more or less standard definition of a God-Fearer: “an unofficial class of Gentiles who stopped short of becoming full proselytes but were permitted limited participation in Jewish worship” (JETS 34 [1991]: 478). The key word here is “unofficial.”

. The custom arose that these Jewish-Christians would meet again on the day (our Sunday) following the Sabbath for a service on their own.

That custom - never mentioned in the NT. Not even when a large segment of non-Christian Jews objected strongly -- not even then do we see a "hey my believing Gentile friends - join us tomorrow for more Gospel preaching on the Christian day of worship".

No... not mentioned at all.

The silence at that point - is deafening

So that CHANGE to the one of the TEN - is... a change to that commandment.

They claim it is the Sabbath Commandment obligation being satisfied - and as you point out they insists that the TEN Commandments (and not merely NINE) are obligatory for the saints.

What you have overlooked is that they insist that the LORD's DAY as given in the actual Bible - is the seventh-day Sabbath.

The Catholic Church did NOT change any of the Ten Commandments. They were part of the OT laws that God gave to the Jews and not binding upon Christians. Although not part of the New Covenant, those commandments were based upon the moral law which the saints are obligated to follow. Observing the Lord's day on the first day of the week fulfills the moral law of setting aside one day each week for God.

The Catholic Church did NOT change any of the Ten Commandments. They were part of the OT laws that God gave to the Jews and not binding upon Christians. Although not part of the New Covenant, those commandments were based upon the moral law which the saints are obligated to follow. Observing the Lord's day on the first day of the week fulfills the moral law of setting aside one day each week for God.

Then you freely admit that you do not agree with what the Catholic Church has said on that point???

Is there any moral law that says "set aside one day each week for God" instead of "The SEVENTH day is the Sabbath of the Lord Thy God"???

You know better than this. You are quoting a document that is not specific in what it is saying. "After" the Sabbath means "like" the Sabbath. SPECIFICALLY the SOLEMNITY of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. In Catholicism, the Sabbath is Friday night sundown til Saturday sundown. Sunday is The Lord's Day. You are dishonest when you try to say otherwise.
