  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What double standards? What's your argument here?

What's wrong with you?? you love these little games don't you? Do you really think they are witty or just what do you get out of trying to make someone repeat what they clearly just said. I just did a full explanation of the double standards. If you don't know the argument, read back.

For the second time, I'm not going to waste my time with that.

I think by now we can safely assume that our creationist friends cannot refute the evidence presented in the OP and prefer to muddy the waters with talk of 'dishonesty' and 'beliefs'.

I think it's safe to say you haven't been paying attention. What's with that anyway? You don't seem to be the only one.

I'm sorry, but your argument is not as clear as you seem think it is, to the extent that there even is an "argument" there...

I reasonably doubt it.

You can doubt whatever you want, but it won't change the facts of the matter....

We can take a sample of your DNA and a sample of your supposed dad and determine with high accuracy wheter that person is your actual biological father.

Perhaps you should ask yourself how geneticists are able to determine that.

Do you not believe the evidence you see? If so, that would be called a belief, a truth establishing belief. How bout the opinions scientists have drawn on their evidence? Sounds to me like you do the exact same thing but somehow in your mind, either you just can't put that simple fact together or it's ok for you, but not others.
You and your double standards. Do you ever play fair?

Can beliefs be wrong?

I'll assume that you'll reasonable answer that with "off course they can be wrong".
So there you go... beliefs aren't "truth establishing", because they can be wrong.

Beliefs and opinions are just that: beliefs and opinions.

And it doesn't matter who holds the beliefs / opinions either.
A scientist's opinion/belief is just an opinion/belief as well.

Why do you care so much what religious people believe?

Because your beliefs inform your actions.
Knowing that, I'ld prefer my fellow citizens to be rationally justified in their beliefs.
I'ld prefer them to believe as many true things as possible, and as little false things as possible.

Why must you "fight an idea" at all?

Errrr.... Are you serious?

Ask yourself that question when it comes to the idea's/ideologies of jihadi's, nazi's, kkk members, slave owners,...

You can't "bomb" or "kill" idea's.

Why can't you just be happy living your life the way you choose while letting others do the same?

That's just it....... the others are NOT doing the same.
Theists in our society are actively working to get their religious things validated in the public sphere. In a secular society, that just isn't acceptable.

If faith in God is important to people and if they find hope in that, why does matter to you?

That's not the part that matters to us.

What answer? You haven't justified why we should treat the Bible as an authority on biology.

You don't have to, that's your choice.

However, you do seem to want to convince me that I shouldn't, which is why you keep asking me to give my reasons for personally choosing God and the Bible over science.

And when I do, you're not satisfied with the answers I give, because you have particular answers in mind and will not accept anything else.

And then when I ask you why you care so much about my personal beliefs, you refuse to tell me why.

So, now this has gone in circles long enough.

I'm done playing games.

Don't have to what?

No, I keep asking you because this is the Discussion and Debate section, and you're generally expected to defend your claims.
And when I do, you're not satisfied with the answers I give, because you have particular answers in mind and will not accept anything else.
You've given no good reason to consider the Bible authoritative on matters of biology.
And then when I ask you why you care so much about my personal beliefs, you refuse to tell me why.
But I already told you: you made certain questionable claims. Others have asked you to support those claims.

That does not explain why you are so concerned with how I choose to live my own life.
You're confusing the point at issue. This has nothing to do with how you live your life and everything to do with how you justify the claims you're making here.

I have.

You've given no good reason to consider the Bible authoritative on matters of biology.

I've given no reason that you think is good enough. And that's fine.

But I already told you: you made certain questionable claims. Others have asked you to support those claims.

I have, just not in the way you want.

Are you being serious? what a crazy thing to say, JW's refusing blood transfusions for their children? KKK? Nazi's? Muslim extremists? creationists teaching their children that the ToE is false and a magic man in the sky is real? are you feeling OK?

But why is any of that important if we are simply gone after this life? If there are no actual lasting consequences to anything we do, and if we all just end up ceasing to exist, then none of that matters in the slightest.

After all, we are here and then we are gone, and no one really cares or can do anything about it, right?

So why bother living life in any particular way? We should all just live as we like, because no matter what we do or don't do, there is no real purpose or meaning to life.

(And that is the consequence of a truly Atheistic worldview)

Actually some of us can live a moral and fulfilling life without having the threat of some sort of supernatural judgement hanging over us. We can actually care about other people without needing instruction from a 2000 year old book.

Who said each individual cant assign their own purpose or meaning to their own life.

And, if this life is all we have that would if anything, increase the meaning and purpose of how we live it.
