  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It doesn't, why do you ask?

To someone with faith it's truth and some have faith because they have all the proof they need. Have you not been listening? Yours isn't the only opinion on the planet, nor is it the only one that matters, and because you don't believe something exists or has authority, doesn't mean it doesn't..

So how does faith establish its truth?

You stuck with the faith part of my post and completely discounted the fact I said some have all the proof they need. It took both to establish truth.

So now ask the appropriate question *again* so I can answer.....again

Because that's what we're discussing here? Honestly, I don't see why that would be mysterious given the topic of the thread.

We can discuss it, that's fine. But why should it matter to you if I agree that science is more authoritative than the Bible?

Both of what? I'm sorry, but your post doesn't make sense to me. Could you clarify? What are you claiming establishes its truth?

It matters because that is where the discussion led? Not at all a big mystery.

Well, that is certainly where you chose to lead the discussion in any case.

I think it's relevant to ask why my personal beliefs are important to you.

But, if you don't really have an answer for that, that's fine. However, I don't think I need to explain why I trust God more than science.

Folks will see what they want to see here, and just as people go, a few will be objective and see what's real and not allow their bias to cloud the facts.

You know, on another thread when I first asked that someone please bring forth something from a page or pages of so-called evidence, to let me know why it was evidence and how it proves to you evolution was a fact, it wasn't a trick. I wasn't thinking "I've got them now" I was actually expecting to first see what y'all consider evidence because I was unable to see it at all, and to discuss the details. But now just as then, a very strange occurrence that I didn't expect has cropped up and I'm curious as to why.

Could you at least tell me if you think the request is unreasonable, and if so, why? Seems to me, getting into the details is much more apt to reveal the truth in any matter, but I guess those thoughts aren't shared by some of you?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you look at all this so-called evidence as a whole and then conclude evolution is a fact. So the only way to disprove it is to knock the evidence out one at a time, and if I personally conclude the details reveal little if any evidence, I can conclude that "whole" has little basis for fact as well. See, just as two wrongs don't make a right, a lot of what we think is evidence but is not, does not make evolution true. That makes it easy to fool ones self into believing it's a fact but that's about as far as it goes.

Dude, in reality, genetics alone allready demonstrates common ancestry of species beyond any reasonable doubts.

All the rest is just icing on the cake, really.

The existence of God is not in doubt as far as science is concerned. Science has no authority when it comes to the question of God's existence.

Science is a method of inquiry.

Regardless of the method used, the existence of gods is in doubt, simply for the fact that the existence of such entities has not been / can not be demonstrated.

You only know that something exists when it can be shown to be exist.

And since science has no authority on the question of God's existence, it also has no authority on the question of whether God can be trusted or relied on. These questions are not scientific questions.

Out of curiosity, what kind of questions are they, then?

Beliefs and opinions, count as "truth establishing" things, now?
If fantasy is preferable to reality for some people fantasy wins every time, you are trying to fight an idea with truth and reason.
The only way religious people can change is if they see for themselves how ridiculous their beliefs are, you will never get through to them by presenting them with the same facts or evidence they dismiss in order to believe in the first place.

Good grief, USincognito started this thread to discuss the evidence for evolution. I think by now we can safely assume that our creationist friends cannot refute the evidence presented in the OP and prefer to muddy the waters with talk of 'dishonesty' and 'beliefs'.

It's not really surprising that those with the least understanding of a subject have the strongest objections. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

You have continually brought religion into it, claiming that the Bible is authoritative on matters of biology, so why are you surprised that someone would ask you to justify your position?

I reasonably doubt it.

Beliefs and opinions, count as "truth establishing" things, now?

Do you not believe the evidence you see? If so, that would be called a belief, a truth establishing belief. How bout the opinions scientists have drawn on their evidence? Sounds to me like you do the exact same thing but somehow in your mind, either you just can't put that simple fact together or it's ok for you, but not others.

You and your double standards. Do you ever play fair?

What double standards? What's your argument here?

Makes perfect sense, and I was as clear as I can be so restating it won't do any good..

Why do you care so much what religious people believe? Why must you "fight an idea" at all? Why can't you just be happy living your life the way you choose while letting others do the same? If faith in God is important to people and if they find hope in that, why does matter to you?

I have explained my position and why I feel it's justified.

Again, why does what I choose to believe matter to you? If I put God above science, why do you care?
