I use the Christian label now and have in the past because I can't figure out what denomination I am. I go back and forth between Catholicism and Southern Baptist... I like the mysticism of the Catholic Church but I fail to believe a lot of what they teach. I also fail to believe a bit of what the Baptist churches teach as well. For example, in the Catholic Church I don't believe in the Perpetual Virginity of marriage or the Doctrine of Transubstantiation. At the same time though, in the Baptist churches I have attended, I disagree that baptism is merely an ordinance or "sign of obedience". I am not sure what I believe on baptism, because in scripture it seems to make it obvious that baptism forgives sins and that we must be baptized for salvation. However, I also agree that having baptism as a requirement would make it a works salvation, and I believe that we are saved by faith alone...
I also have convictions that cause me to disagree with a lot of Baptists that are in the Reformed camp, I don't believe in all five points as defined in TULIP. I am more of a free-will guy... And the Catholic church doesn't seem to have a really well defined position on this stuff...
I always call this, "my theological web of confusion... "
