Who will be our Methuselah? "After him it shall come."

Noah & company is a type of the church which escapes. But before then, a Godly man, or many people perhaps should die (fall asleep) of old age... and have a prophetically symbolic name/title for this purpose.

Seems like we should have one... just a thought I had.

Maybe this person will be a really amazing evangelist.

I included vv. 38-39 because I think they're key to understanding the passage. Also note that this comes immediately after Jesus' saying that no one knows what time He's coming back. I don't think we can emphasize all the details about Noah (e.g., Methuselah), but rather Jesus is saying that His return (the Rapture) will occur without warning and that things in the world will be going on as normal -- just as things were going on normally right before the flood. (This is a big reason I believe in a pre-trib rapture; things certainly won't be going on normally before the Second Coming!)

Nothing there says they were not warned. It says they were making merry until the day of judgement. This is what happened with the flood. Noah warned people. He was a minister. He was building a boat even for 100 years prior to the flood, so it was kind of obvious. There was plenty of warning for the flood and no one cared.

That they had no faith and did not care is why they continued making merry up until that day, even though there were multiple signs and warnings from God.

That's how it is with the coming of the Son of man. Plenty of warning, signs galore, and some people don't care because they got no faith.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. - 1 Thessalonians 5:4

It's as simple as this.

Maybe... except they do more miracles by God. Billy Graham is a good evangelist, and the spirit empowered it. The spirit empowers the 1 Corinthians 12 gifts too, if we allow him to.

There is this guy from Kenya who is preaching repent and prepare the way for the coming of the Lord.He has prophesied about the major natural disasters and been correct.I think his name is Dr. Owuor(sp) and he is a bonafied medical doctor who set aside his practice to do fulltime ministry. The problem is, a lot of people do not believe in miracles anymore.

There have been and will be false prophets and false teachers who will come and deceive many people .... however, the scriptures do not speak of any particular forerunners

Our Father has already said He will give warning.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

The problem will be testing to see who is false and who is true.

I'd say He's given us plenty of warning. The question becomes how far in advance will (or was) the warning given?

Problem is that type of prophecy is usually not from God ( I would have to hear how it's spoken.) That type of prophecy mirrors the types attempted by that doomsayer guy who did the Harbingers. It's prophecy from the spirit of fear, and sometimes satan has the ability to cause natural disasters and bring curses upon the world.

That stuff isn't God though. When I was a lost person in a false religion, I could prophecy bad things to happen in people's lives and the world. It was satan using me to do it. God's prophecy does not work this way in the NT church.

The problem is a Christian can get a devil riding on their back whispering to them, and if the stuff actually happens "They're a prophet!" ... satan has prophecy too. Just because we predict something and it comes to pass, does not mean it's God. I used to date a spiritual medium who would see and talk with demonic spirits. She could do the same sort of thing, except she'd usually dig out dirty facts from everyone's lives.

I agree. I think it worked that way from Noah. He preached about it, but when the day finally came, he probably didn't do a frantic last call, he probably just got in the Ark having already done all he could in that regard and left.

I believe if the church knows it in the last several days, the day and the hour, it's not going to be some big thing where the world turns to God... rather Christians having done all they could in that regard leave in victory.

That said, I am not sure it would be that precise with our warning.

But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. - 1 Corinthians 14:3

Tribulation prophecies given by John, concern prophecy not given to the church, but put in care of the church concerning the future... and so the doom and gloom does not concern the present age of grace, but gives us edification that we are not part of that future doom and gloom.

NT church prophecy is edification and strengthening the body. It's not really saying, "Repent, bad times are coming!" ... that's not really NT prophecy. It works in the OT.

This is what NT prophecy looks like:

I'm not condoning this guy, really... I think a lot of stuff I've seen him do is fishy! But how he administers that prophecy to that man, is how NT prophecy looks and speaks. But obviously you know, scams for money and all that are out there. But even a scammer for money can be a real prophet of God... like Balaam.
