  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Albion, can i ask you, where in the Bible does it say that women can be priests or Bishops? Thanks you

I did ask elsewhere but thought it better in here as this is a forum about Sola Scripture.

Thanx for the propaganda... more circular reasoning I suppose. Let me check it out.

Please, no more tracts!! I would encourage all protestants on these forums to read these tracts... it's pure insanity! It's like going down a rabbit hole that never ends with the Mad Hatter (the guy with the fish hat) running the show.

Actually, I should thank you because by reading these you have confirmed what I thought I knew about the "church".

This makes for enlightening reading!! Waw!

Does the rest of Protestantism know that beyond being forgiven for our sins when we contritely ask the Father in Jesus' name... that there is still some temporal punishments coming our way... that only the Pope and his designates can take care of for ya....

I know your little tract says there is solid Biblical evidence for this, so I would ask, please share.

Thing is, all denominations have their own different ways and interpretations of Scripture. As you very well know, the 'Catholic' church is the original church of Jesus Christ. In fact, the Bible you read today was put together by the 'Catholics!'

1,000s of denominations that sprung up with all different teachings etc! Its a shame that you all cannot agree on things. You all seem lost in your ways and interpretations!

Isn't it wonderful that the Pope can be traced right back to Peter!! Catholic church. The 'True' church of Christ.

How far can you trace your church? 1782!

Thanx for that... I was thoroughly impressed with the accuracy of that tract... the only contention I would have is that the grand majority of Ellen Whites writings have to do with other subjects other than the Papacy... most are on Christ, His life and ministry and Christ's righteousness by faith.

Being spiritual Israel, we trace our lineage back through Abraham, even to Adam... part of all those that have looked for and long for His appearing since the fall. Jesus the Christ is the head of our church...

In the tract, it was mentioned that we are awaiting the coming Sunday law crisis... just as a FYI, the current Pope is making a lot of noise about needing a legislated day of rest, Sunday and that the Eucharist will figure prominently in the saving the earth from global warming.

Funny how a third grade educated little woman saw this happening over a hundred and fifty years ago... at least by your church having this material available for it's members, some will see the warning and come out of her before it's too late.

Do you believe the writings of Ellen White are inspired? If not then why the hypocrisy?

Why does agreeing with the Bible about holding fast to the oral traditions mean believing the writings of Ellen White (whomever that is)?

Careful, someone might take an opportunity to point out the "church's" grievous history in persecuting and killing people.... guided and taught by the Holy Spirit you say?

I think each of us personally has a "grievous history". I don't know much world history or Church history, but I'm sure that there are those with a very positive perspective on what the Church--by God's grace-- has done for us all, while being a hospital for sinners, managed by sinners.

Why would God pass on His Word only through pen and ink (see 2 Jn 12, 3 Jn 13), when the Bible says to hold fast to the traditions, whether they were given orally or by letter?
Pen and ink is used for correction. We used it to confirm tradition of man.

If you are referring to the Bereans, my understanding is that they were interpreting the O.T. Scriptures mystically in light of the oral Word, just like Catholics interpret the Scriptures mystically in light of the the oral Word.

A pope is only presumed to be infallible when speaking to matters of faith and morals. For example, when he burps, he doesn't burp infallibly. Or in the case of Pope Francis, he's welcome to have whatever political viewpoint he likes but the faithful are not required to agree with him about his politics.
We have your technicalities and we have those who would "worship the burp", as well as those familiar with his politics.

I don't see how I've made a technicality in this discussion. The pope's infallibility has been shown to apply only to a limited range of circumstances. That isn't a "technicality", it's what the Church teaches.

I knew this guy who made the remark that if the Vicar of Christ is really infallible, he should be using that ability all the time. To me this is like those who say that Christ should heal everyone who has faith, and put an end to all the evil in the world. God doesn't come into our lives and make everything perfect or make His Vicar omniscient. He gives us what we need to know when we need to know it as he allows us room to grow as people and as the Body of Christ. I love the Papacy and the Catholic Church. I don't always understand what I hear about what the Pope said or whatever, but I find the Papacy to be a gift from God.

Catholics and Protestants make traditions. One is backed by the bible and one isn't
