As we know, some popes of the time were abominable and these killings were by 'puppet' popes and clergy with their own agenda. The core beliefs of the church could never be changed.

I thought the church taught that the Pope is infallible? That they are God here on earth and, as you say, what ever is decreed by them on earth is decreed in Heaven, right? So if some were right and some were wrong, how do you know the difference?

A pope is only presumed to be infallible when speaking to matters of faith and morals. For example, when he burps, he doesn't burp infallibly. Or in the case of Pope Francis, he's welcome to have whatever political viewpoint he likes but the faithful are not required to agree with him about his politics.

So, the Pope is only infallible in matters of faith and morals... ok, was the selling of indulgences in the 15th and 16th century not a question of morals?
Big cathedral project coming up, lets get out there and get peoples money in exchange for what Jesus offers freely... sounds a little immoral to me.

Actually, I should thank you because by reading these you have confirmed what I thought I knew about the "church".

Its the only way to try and explain things to you. Its a shame you see things in your own way and not guided by the Holy Spirit
