  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh, that's cool! So... not gonna wait for FFXV?
I'm actually surprised to find that I'm looking forward to 15. Perhaps not as much as in the early days of 6 through 9. But at least 15 looks like a big step up from 13 and it's sequels. I was about ready to bail on the series after 13. I wasn't planning on getting any of the current gen consoles this time around, as older consoles like the PS2 still get plenty of use at my place. So I'm hoping FF15 will be along on Steam soon enough.

I hear you on that. I hated XIII, it didn't even feel like a Final Fantasy series at all and the story! So bad! I'm a bit of a skeptic about XV but I'm willing to give it a shot. Type 0 looked ok, but then they stuck the L'si back in and I was done... So, there it sits dusting away.

Oh! I am so glad someone else agrees with me that FF13 was so awful! Especially the wretched story. ... Honestly, NO game in the main numerical series - 1 through 12 - did I consider to be bad until 13. In fact, games like 6, 7, and 9 were outright masterpieces to me. But 13 was the worst of the series in every broad category. It had the worst musical score, the worst cast of party members, the worst battle system, and definitely the worst story. I couldn't believe how low it fell from the game before it, FF12, which despite its seeming mixed reaction from fans, I really liked it. I actually thought the gambit system worked out unusually well in battle, to where it did not work so well that I never had to worry about my two AI characters and thus feel too detached from participation in battle, yet at the same time being good enough to keep me from having to constantly interrupt the battle pace and correct my AI too often (I know a lot of fans seemed to hate this psedo-MMORPG feel, though). I liked at least four out of the six party members (Balthier is truly a man's man; I admire him greatly ^_^ ), and the story was simple but understandable, and I still got emotional value out of it.

And yes, Swan, the L'Cie was indeed a horrible idea. ... That, and the summon creatures being Transformers in FF13 were indeed two of the worst ideas Square had for the series. The Laws system of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance being the worst offender.

All in favour that FF13 should not be included in the FFseries? Lol!!
Yeah, it was SO bad and linear! Final Fantasy has never before been so linear as that. I like to wonder about, thanks.

FF12, however, to me felt exactly like FF11 online. But, still not nearly as bad. I did have fun with the battle system though. Then again, like I said, felt unusually like FF11.
Lol! Yeah. That Baltheir... had a bit of a crush on him....

Oh yeah, Balthier is probably my favorite male protagonist of the series, with Freya Crescent from 9 being my favorite heroine. She's just rad. ^-^

Don't get you started? Why, my dear Swan, I did not imagine that you could have anywhere the same capacity for snark and cynicism when it comes to bad video games as I do. :satisfied:

Fran was equally awesome! And she was an archer! :D

Eh... I try to keep it to myself, really. I mean it's like... I baked a cake and carefully decorated the icing. Then Square took it and ate it! Not even a crumb left! :noooo:

I just finished Resident Evil Revelations 1. Not a bad game overall, I suppose, but still an inferior title to classic RE. And is it just me, or have the main villain's motivations and methods been really, REALLY stupid ever since 2012 in RE games? The story really just fell apart towards the end of the game when I realized that, much like Derek Simmons in RE6, infecting a huge populice on an epidemic scale with a virus that turns innocent human beings into horrible monsters for some exalted personal sense of "saving the world from itself" was Morgan Lansdale's reason for conspiracy to commit terrorism. The grand atrocity he committed? Because reasons. That's what it amounts to.

And terrorism seems to be the go-to plot summary - the nutshell actions of every villain that drives the very destinies of every hero associated with them - therein the franchise ever since 2005. It gets old, people. Not to mention the fact that the entire conflict, the plot of RE Revelations 1, would never even have happened if Lansdale had just locked the door to his office - at a time when his agents would likely be looking for him, no less - when he decided to totally incriminate himself aloud with his co-conspirator ON A SPEAKER PHONE. And sure enough, someone working under him walks in on his conversation. Did Capcom really expect me to buy this? That a man in such a position of power as Lansdale, head of a prestigious global anti-terrorism organization, would not know better than to do something this obviously stupid that would flat out give away his treachery?

I'm not saying that the Resident Evil series has fallen as low as, say, BioShock or Parasite Eve, even after RE6 brought Michael Bay's directive forte into the series and easily had the most needlessly convoluted plot of all the RE games. But still, if RE7 doesn't get us closer back to the roots, I'd say Capcom should have hung up their gloves on this one way back in 2008 after RE5. .... But hey, I hear they are actually finally going to go ahead with a makeover of the classic RE2. And if they do anywhere near as great a job with it as they did remaking RE1 with improved graphics and atmosphere back in 2002, I will certainly be pleased. ^-^

And now, Swan just recently gave me a great idea. I believe my next game shall be "an oldie but a goodie" (as one of my former martial arts instructors Mr. Hern used to say when reviewing basic moves and combos with us): Tales of Destiny 2 on the PlayStation 1. I actually never even knew a sequel existed until around 3 years ago when a friend of mine from RPGMaker Magazine put out a thread letting everyone know he was wanting to offload a bunch of old gaming merchandise that he figured he would never get around to playing again since he and his wife became more outdoorsy (and even as a gaming nerd I say good for them) in their leisure time. So I bought the classic Tales of Destiny from him for 20 bucks, as it was a neat little RPG I was nostalgically fond of, and he unexpectedly shipped me the sequel along with it for free.

Sometimes it's the really random, non-classical acts of kindness that you always remember.

:eheh:so... no new game after all?
Nothing I can find for a good price, anyway. I'd look to amazon, but then I have to pay shipping and handling, so not exactly a good deal. lol. I hunt for bargains and only buy things on the cheap; I'm kind of an old man in that way.

Bah... Prime's a rip-off. But I do like the 'how much you spend' to get free shipping. Definitely worth checking out.
Agreed. And I'm not seeing anything about it on their site right now. lol

FF Type0 for 24 dollars, good deal?
