• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I see Once has managed to utterly derail this thread and lifepsyop is nowhere to be seen to continue the discussion we weren having. Oh well.
It is not off OP topic. Have patience he sometimes doesn't get back to this as quickly as others do.

Hey if you can't believe something that you don't think is true, then I stand corrected.
I said, why would I not want to believe that there is something more to human existence than this relatively brief biological stint on Earth?

My response used the word can't rather than can so it was probably confusing. What I meant to say was: If you can believe something you don't think is true, then I stand corrected.

Pleasant thoughts as an afterlife are useless if one doesn't believe that there will REALLY be an afterlife. It might be a nice thought but if you don't think it is true it doesn't matter if you "want" to believe, which was my point.

If you are convinced that the material world is all there is and evolution alone is how life came about (even with lack of evidence of that fact), that is what you will believe.

Perhaps the problem you are having is that you don't have a strong sense for the working system and why it appears designed.

...Hang on, didn't we already assert that it's not subjective? So surely, you should be able to show me objective criteria to assess whether it was designed or not, no?

Agreed, but those thoughts may still happen. Keep in mind, believing it to be true does not make it true.

Hitchslap said: "As I stated, believe what you need to."

You said "Right back atcha."

I can see how you may need to believe in an afterlife, and a heaven, and all that - but why would one need to believe in the absence of that?

Did you just make that retort without thinking?

How can they be elements of design when they can be produced by natural processes?

I ask once again, describe the natualistic processes which created bacterial flagellum or tactile sensory units. Based on the scientific method of course.
