I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could dissolve my doubts, by answering the question of who the one-eyed shepherd is from the book of Zechariah.

I have been up all night, since I found these two verses in relation to an Islamic end-time prophecy:

“Woe to the worthless shepherd,
Who leaves the flock!
A sword shall be against his arm
And against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither,
And his right eye shall be totally blinded.” (Zechariah 11:17)

“'Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
Against the Man who is My Companion,'
Says the Lord of hosts.
'Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;
Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.'" (Zechariah 13:7)

I've read multiple commentaries that say Zechariah 11 is about the antichrist, but Zechariah 13 is about Christ, since He quoted it about Himself, and God says the Shepherd is His companion.

I have multiple problems with this. The shepherd is either:
1. Christ
2. The Antichrist
or
3. Neither

If the shepherd is Christ, why does God call Him "worthless, idol, vain, false"?
If the shepherd is the Antichrist, why would Jesus quote that verse about Himself? Wouldn't that mean He is the Antichrist and a false shepherd?
And if the answer is neither, then who is it talking about.

In the Islamic end-time prophecy, there is a man called the Dajjal (antichrist), who is said to have one eye (a left one), and will lead people astray by performing miracles.
According to http://www.islam.tc/prophecies/masdaj.html , these are the things written about him.
  • He will emerge between Shaam and Iraq, and his emergence will become known when he is in Isfahaan at a place called Judea.
  • The Yahudis (Jews) of Isfahaan will be his main followers.
  • Apart from having mainly Jewish followers, he will have a great number of women followers as well.
  • He will have with him fire and water, but in reality the fire will be cold water while that what appears to be cold water will in reality be a blazing fire.
  • Those who obey him will enter "his Heaven" while those who disobey him will enter "his Hell."
  • There will be a thick fingernail-like object in his left eye.
  • The letters "Kaa" "Faa" "Raa" ( Kafir which means "unbeliever") will appear on his forehead and will be deciphered by all Muslims regardless of them being literate or not.
  1. He will have a wheatish complexion.
  • He will travel at great speeds and his means of conveyance will be a gigantic mule. It is said that he will play beautiful music which will attract the music lovers.
  • Dajjal will lay claim to prophethood.
  • He will then lay claim to Divinity.
  • He will perform unusual feats.
  • He will travel the entire world. He will send down rains upon those who believe in him, which in turn will cause good crops to grow, trees to bear fruit and cattle to grow fat.
  • He will cause drought to those who disbelieve in him, resulting in starvation and hardship for them.
  • During those trying times the Muslims will satiate their hunger through the recitation of Subhanallah and La'ilaha Ilallahu.
  • The hidden treasures will spill forth at his command. He will stay on this Earth for a period of forty days; the length of the first day will be one year, the second day will be equal to one month, the third day will be equal to a week and the remaining days will be normal.
  • He will be unable to enter Mecca because the angels will be guarding the Holy City and nor will he be able to enter Medina because there will be angels guarding each of the seven entrances to Medina; From Medina he will proceed towards Shaam where Imaam Mahdi (the Muslim messiah) will be stationed.
  • Finally Isa (A.S.) (the Muslim Jesus) will descend from the heavens and pursue him and eventually kill him at present day Lydda (Baad Lud).
I partially think the person they are describing is the Christian Jesus, since he will say he is a prophet and God, while performing miracles, but they say their Jesus (the Christian False Prophet) will kill him. If the prophet is the Christian Jesus, He wouldn't be able to be killed, so now again, I think the one-eyed shepherd is someone completely other than the Christian Christ or Antichrist. He must be someone completely different.

----------
Before I go any further into questioning, I feel like I should explain what I have been going through the past six months. When I first became Christian, I was apart of a cult, which I didn't realize was a cult until I recieved the Holy Spirit. The pastor I was under claimed to be a prophet and the 3rd Elijah prophesied in the Book of Malachi. He performed a lot of miracles but was always asking for money and cursing people who didn't agree with him. He was very cruel, calling people stupid and telling them to die, so I could see that he definitely didn't have the fruit of the Spirit.I left there and after a year, met a guy who I became friends with. He started telling me about his church and a prophetess he was under who gave a lot of new revelations. She told them what the "true" name of Jesus and God were and told them to only pray to that name, she isolated them from anyone who didn't agree with her, and said Jesus told them to kill those people. He said he has seen signs from her, such as healing miracles, people turned to werewolves, floods, and people coming up missing. I told him he was in a cult and he got mad at me. We stopped talking after many arguments about it, but I was experiencing a lot of false signs trying to convince me that she is a true prophet of God. I felt something like a snake crawling in my brain, and had many headaches after that. I started seeing signs of scriptures condemning my unbelief and hearing a lot of sermons that seemed to tell me I was wrong, even though I knew I was right about her, and memorized multiple scriptures that she contradicted in her teachings.

I have been seeing images of eyes, and false gods(egyptian, hindu, Shiva, etc.) appearing everywhere for the past few months, although there are no more signs trying to convince me she is a prophet. I have had satanic dreams trying to convince me that I'm evil, a reincarnated being, or showing me occult/illuminati symbols. I feel that my faith is being tested, and the devil is doing whatever he can to turn me away from God. A few weeks ago, I prayed asking God to show me the truth, and the face of Jesus appeared on the door on the room I was in, but both His eyes were closed like they are on the Shroud of Turin(that's actually what the image looks like on my door). A few days ago, I was looking the image again, and was thinking it was weird that the eyes weren't open, and right when I was thinking that a left eye appeared on the face on the door, but it was small and angry looking and looked evil. So was disturbed and considered the whole thing to be another false sign from Satan, but now I found these verses in Zechariah and the Islamic end time prophecies, and I don't know what to think.

False signs appear frequently, now, since I came out of the Word of Faith Movement. The movement believes that we can speak life into existence just like God can, and focuses on making declarations and decrees and reciting Bible verses to get what we want. It isn't any different than the law of attraction, and how wiccans perform spells. I know this because I used to read a book on gemstones and Bible Spells. Whenever I think something, good or bad, I tend to see an image related to it a few seconds later. I used to think God was speaking to me and giving me confirmation of things, but now I know I opened a door to false signs by practicing false doctrines for so long.

So I don't know what to think of these prophecies. Besides having the one-eye, the shepherd is also supposed to have one arm, but that isn't mentioned in Islam. On the other hand, none of the apostles ever said anything about Jesus only having one eye when He rose from the dead. There is also nothing about a one-eyed adversary in any of the other end time prophecies (Isaiah, Daniel, Revelation, etc.), so I also think the one eye-antichrist is specific to Islam, and has nothing to do with Christianity, since the verse never says it is talking about the antichrist, but is the interpretation of some theologists.

I am earnestly seeking answers, and I hope someone can answer this for me. Also please pray that all the deception I have endured lately, will end soon and God will deliver me and show me truth. It is much appreciated. Thank you, all, in advance.

This shepherd is not Christ. God will put a false leader/messiah in Israel during the first half of the tribulation who will not care for them when destruction comes upon Israel at the middle of the tribulation.

The false leader is in Zech 11:16.

Zechariah 11:16 "For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces.

This is not the dajjal. Notice his eye shall be blind. It's future tense. God will punish him causing him to become blind. He does not come already blind.

“'Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
Against the Man who is My Companion,'
Says the Lord of hosts.
'Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;
Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.'" (Zechariah 13:7)

The Shepherd in Zech 13 & 14 is Christ. He'll come and save them.

Thank you, brother. I just went back to Zechariah to read the entire chapter for myself, and can see that chapter 11 is definitely not talking about Christ. God actually speaks of multiple false leaders/shepherds between verses 3 and 5.

Now I have another question after reading verses 7-11

"And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another. And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the Lord." (Zechariah 11:7-11)

Why did He break his covenant with all the people, and why was it a sign for the people who waited for Him? Is theis talking about establishing the new covenant that was made because of Christ's death which caused a division between believing and non-believing Jews (Judah and Ephraim) at that time? or does it mean something else?

Hi and welcome Amina :)

I'm not sure of the answers to your questions but want to comment about some things you're experiencing. I can relate to what you're going through because I'm also "seeing" things somewhat similar to "false signs" and having demonically influenced dreams (nightmares) which all began a little over a year ago. I personally have never been in a cult and have always been a pretty straightforward Christian, not ever really dabbling in the occult. So if it's any consolation, I'm not so sure this is because of your past. As far as these "false signs" go, what I have learned is to not let myself get too anxious in trying to figure them out. Some will have me at my wit's end trying to figure them out and wondering what it means for me, the world etc, only for me to conclude that it was deceptive and a waste of time. So I often go through thoughts about these false signs telling myself to ignore them if possible. What I have learned is to battle this by continuously returning to resting in the Promises of Christ and the Bible. I know it's hard as these things are so complex and confusing but as we know, He won't let anything snatch us out of his hand and is with us always, until the very end of the age. (John 10:28, Matt 28:20) Praying for you sister. :)

Thank you, pomegran :)

It's good to know I'm not alone in this. I've been trying not to worry too much about the meaning of things, as you said, and also reminding me to take my mind off of what the enemy is doing and focus on Christ again. Whenever demonic dreams, like you said, it helps me to open my Bible to any page and read for a few minutes. Anxiety is something that's gotten bad for me in the past year, and because of all the demonic attacks I had, I wouldn't sleep for a while. I stayed awake trembling for three days straight and couldn't eat or sleep. When I tried to fall asleep I would hear a hissing sound and feel my soul trying to leave through my mouth, while losing consciousness. I believe the Holy Spirit is what pulled it back in my body every time. It was scary, until I read the Bible again, and saw the verse where Jesus said " Take heart, for I have overcome the world." It made me smile, and I wasn't afraid anymore :) I have been reading Ephesians, lately, since it's full of promises concerning the things I am anxious about. Thank you again, for your kind words, and God bless you. I will be praying for you as well.

There is material in John on shepherds who are actually thieves. when an item in the bible is not that clear and has no NT reference, forget it. Don't lose any sleep. there are 2500 uses of the OT by the NT, and if you master those, you will have plenty of answers and you will be up all night in excitement.

Zechariah 11:17 has nothing to do with Christ. In Bible prophecy we find three major types of prophecy:
1. Prophecies about things that will take place in the future.
2. Prophecies about things that were currently happening at the time of the prophecy and why God was doing those things.
3. Prophecies about things that happened in the past and why God did those things.

Zechariah 11:14-17 was received by Zechariah in approximately 520-500 BC and was speaking prophetically about the division of Israel and Judah that occurred after the death of Solomon (four hundred years earlier). Verse 14 talks explicitly about the split between Israel and Judah in 930 BC (ref I Kings 12). Verses 15-17 describe the unfaithful kings of Israel and Judah that led to the two kingdoms being taken into captivity (Israel in 722 BC and Judah in 586 BC). The blinded king in verse 17 could be an explicit reference to Zedekiah being blinded after he was captured by the Babylonians (II Kings 25:1-7). This prophecy falls into category 3 above.

I'm trying to say the same thing: that there is no point in being an "expert" on OT prophecy that is independent of what the NT is saying. So, if the NT doesn't say anything about the end of Ezekiel or Zech 14, it doesn't matter that much. There is so much it is substantial about.

Or as Ramm would say in Protestant Biblical Interpretation:
"Interpret the OT by the NT.
Interpret the Gospels by the Letters.
Interpret the symbolic by the didactic.
Interpret the passing reference by the complete treatment."

These are good points here. I use these approaches regularly.

Amen Amina! The Word is so powerful! It's definitely our weapon in this war. :)

I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles. It is really scary and takes a lot out of us in the process. During the worst times I also hear "The Lord is with you" very clearly and I know it's true, He's right here with us. So while the evil is happening like it's right next to me and in my soul I keep reminding myself that God is in me and none of that stuff can really touch me. I then repeat that in my mind until I can go to sleep. God bless you too and thank you for your prayers!

Thank you, brother. I just went back to Zechariah to read the entire chapter for myself, and can see that chapter 11 is definitely not talking about Christ. God actually speaks of multiple false leaders/shepherds between verses 3 and 5.

Oh you're very welcome. I've developed a habit of reading the entire chapter to fully understand the verse. Makes a huge difference when trying to understand the bible.

The other thing I do when studying the bible is use many different translations. Some older translations just goes over my head causing me to miss things. You can see if you can understand it better with this website. There's many difference translations.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=zech 11:1-17&version=GNT;NLT;MEV

I can't say I know 100% who the bible is referring to in Zech 11:7-11, but this is a prophecy about the Israel during the first half of the tribulation. It's about the 2/3rd of the Israelites that will perish during the great tribulation. You can also confirm this in chapter 13. I also study surrounding chapters to get a better understand of the scriptures I'm studying. And chapter 14 is about the return of Christ at the end of the tribulation. Clear evidence this is a end time prophecy.

You of all people should know that it is important to understand Old Testament prophecies so that some "jerk" does not try to pawn them off as End Times prophecies. I actually got serious about studying Old Testament prophecies because of the large number of them that were incorrectly being asserted as End Times prophecies. But even beyond that, those prophecies are critical for understanding the heart and mind of God.

So true, Alfred. I've gotten into too many problems when I first became a Christian by listening to what everyone said and not studying the Bible for myself. I'm almost done reading through the whole thing, but I will keep rereading it as many times as I have to to make sure I have full understanding of it.

You made very good points about some verses being future prophecies, others being what was happening currently, and others being about the past. The reference to Zedekiah being blinded before being taken to Babylon is also interesting, since kings are kind of like God's shepherds. They are supposed to watch over his people and take care of them, and a lot of the kings of Judah and Israel didn't do that when they were ruling. Ahab and Solomon allowed people to turn away and worship idols because of their wives, Jeroboam made golden calves made for Israel to worship because he didn't want them to return to the Southern Kingdom, and many of the kings who came after them also promoted worshipping idols. Now I think it's possible that if Zechariah 11 contains a prophecy for the end times, it will most likely be towards a king/ruler who causes God's people to turn away from Him.

"Interpret the OT by the NT.
Interpret the Gospels by the Letters.
Interpret the symbolic by the didactic.
Interpret the passing reference by the complete treatment."

I love this. I will most definitely be interpreting Scripture this way.

Thank you, this made everything soooo much easier to understand! I will be comparing translations more often. I have been reading the KJV, lately, but I sometimes compare it with my ESV translation. Reading from the GNT made the whole chapter way easier to understand. Thank you, again :)

The muslim prophecies are a perversion of what they came up with based on their sketchy understanding of the biblical end times prophecies. Their prophecies will just never come to materialize even in the perverted sense. Just take what the muslims say - open the lid to the garbage can and throw it inside. Islam will be judged and destroyed in the battle of Gog/Magog - because of the evil Islam has committed in the name of their god Allah - which is not the God of the bible no matter what muslims lie to say otherwise - because they do not worship the Holy One of Israel (Ezekiel 39:7).

On the other issues, don't put anyone between you and Jesus - like pastors. Take Enoch in the old testament as a role model. He walked with God and God took him. Walk with Jesus, rebuke any troubling visions and influences, as you have been given the authority by Jesus. Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

If a church person tries to pressure you, just say that God has not moved you to do - whatever they are trying to squeeze out of you. Just walk with Jesus and not other people.

Thank you, brother. Pray for me in this. I'm trying to renew my walk with God after getting so far away with sinfulness and false doctrines. I know I don't read the Bible or pray like I used to, anymore, and it bothers me. I still read and pray daily, but only for a few minutes (5 to 10), not like I used to when I would read or pray for hours, and I didn't want to stop, now it feels like a burden to do what used to come naturally.

And against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither,
And his right eye shall be totally blinded.” (Zechariah 11:17)

“'Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,
Against the Man who is My Companion,'
Says the Lord of hosts.
'Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;

“Woe to the worthless shepherd,
Who leaves the flock!
A sword shall be against his arm
And against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither,
And his right eye shall be totally blinded.”

The word "leaves" [the flock] is better translated as "apostasizes"/ "leads the falling away". In other words, the "antichrist". In the end-times, there will be the "antichrist", the "false prophet" and Satan (the 3 worthless shepherds - in my view each will receive a mortal head wound: two will be killed and resurrected, one will die and be reborn as the "unholy spirit" that will live in the Internet/ artificial intelligence.)

The Muslim prophecies will be fulfilled, probably to the letter, but only to deceive people. In other words, some "dajjals" are decoy antichrists. Dajjal is said to last for "1 year, 1 month, 1 week, and 37 days." This is 439 days, compare with a literal reading of Daniel 9's 70 weeks prophecy of "after 62 weeks, messiah is killed but not for himself". After 62 weeks is "after 434 days" messiah is killed - to become ostensibly the "unholy ghost". Thus after this false messiah is killed, the temple will be started roughly 8 more weeks to finish out the 70 weeks prophecy.

The Muslim Jesus, "Isa", is referred to as the "son of Mary" - in other words, a descendant of Mary (and extension, Jesus, and by further extension, David). The Muslim Jesus, is the Jewish messiah, is the Christian antichrist (most likely a British royal, probably Prince Harry). The Muslim Mahdi is the Christian False Prophet, not the antichrist.

When looking at the prophecies, imo, they will all be fulfilled correctly and incorrectly in an elaborate scheme, and it gets confusing at times. Put another way, you will see a "hero" one eyed shepherd fight an "evil" one eyed shepherd (but in reality both being evil). But if you are interested in the correct understanding just look no further than Hollywood big budget movies. Things like Star Wars or the Avengers movies will show you how this deception plays out pretty well - just remember that the "good guys" are the real bad guys of Christian eschatology.

You give too much credit to Muslim prophecies. Actually, dougg, in the whole history of the church, only recently did "Christian" understanding of prophecy start to sound like Muslim. The idea of a completely spelled out end scenario is pretty recent, and I don't mean Papal material ignored it; they actually jumped into used a complete spelled out end scenario as a way of protecting the face of the pope. I mean that the idea of using the Bible as an exact guide of several events other than the judgement day (one swift moment) is more like Islam and its misunderstandings than most of Christian history. Chew on that.

None of the muslim prophecies will be fulfilled. They don't fit the true end times prophecies of the bible.

The muslims claim that the dajjal will ride across the middle east on a great white mule at "incredible speeds"!
That's ridiculous. What happened is that a bunch of Arabs sat around the campfire, figuratively speaking, and tried to top each other with wild tales.

The "great white mule" is a UFO. Of course, UFO's are not real - they are fake and will be faked, as part of Satan's plan to deceive people.

UFO's are part of the "whisked away" "rapture" confusion and deception.

This is the last Transformers movie

Here's the movie poster for the movie Skyline

Practically the same image, and it's repeated in many other places.
