• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you talking about?

Your willingness to condone misrepresented science even after being show how the misrepresentation transpired.

You said it, yourself, that it was published that there was water in the mantle.
Remember saying this? "RickG: There was an article published last year which did describe vast amounts of water in the mantle based on seismic data, which is described much like the pictured example I provided previously."
Thanks for the quote mine. That was a different article by a different scientist, not the one you cited. Do you not understand the picture of the mineral specimen that I posted? It showed "liquid" inclusions. The liquid is not necessarily water and it is encapsulated in the crystal matrix. It does not form vast oceans or reservoirs of water in the mantel that could be extruded as a fountain.

Yet earlier, you said: "My reply to him about something being made up pertains specifically to the earth's mantle having ocean's/reservoirs. No source for his claim was provided. How else am I supposed to take it?"

And you said that, knowing that there was an article published last year on vast amounts of water in the mantle, based on seismic data?
Why is it you can't understand that it was him that made the claim? He made no attempt to present that claim as anything that a scientist said. Knowing that there are liquid inclusions encapsulated in rocks is not a ground breaking new discovery. Go to any jewelry store who employs a Gemologist and they will be happy to show you such inclusions in their store under magnification. BTW, I happen to possess those credentials as well, through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). In fact I have a fully equipped gem identification lab as well as gem faceting equipment in my home.

Or is your point that JacksBratt simply didn't provide an article?

It is not that he didn't provide an article. He made no outside attribution to his claim whatsoever.

Let me point this out again.

You told JacksBratt to 'please refrain from making stuff up,' where there was an article out on his very point, published eight years ago.

Where that article came from doesn't matter.

It could have been from NASA, Scientific America, or Foxtrot.

Your accusation was out of place.

And with that, I'm done in this thread.

What part of I was unaware of that article until you posted a link to it after the fact do you not understand? My post with respect to time and context stands. My prior knowledge of liquid inclusions contained in some minerals does not negate that fact.

The more than obvious point I am making is that YOU and your ILK have no problem latching on to anything anyone says as if it were fact in the context you and they are presenting. It is nothing short of being dishonest. And frankly, I am quite fed with with such overt dishonesty under the disguise of Christianity. There is no substance in any religious faith that has to deliberately misrepresent any information whether scientific or otherwise to support that religion.

I will agree with you that I wish Christians would stop trying to support their beliefs with science.

Under the guise of God's general revelation (the cosmos), they try and support everything from the creation week to the Flood to [whatever] with science; and they, IMO, just make themselves look silly.

See, we can agree things. :)

He just fell for 40 ... right?

'....There seems to be a significance in the number 40 here. The earth was cleansed in 40 days and 40 nights of rain during the flood. Joseph’s embalming process was 40 days (Genesis 50:3). The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. It seems to be a number that indicates cleansing and purification. The numerology is consistent in the case of Jesus’ fasting as well.

After fasting for forty days and nights, it would be very natural for Jesus to be hungry. ....'*

What's to say?

Jesus could have fasted 100 days, if He so chose.

And the Bible wouldn't have thought it worth mentioning?

I've got no problem with you invoking a Biblical miracle, as long as it's actually in the Bible, and not just something you're making up because you need it in there.

Or will the Bible be taking a hike?

Far more natural for him to be dead, but once magical thinking is invoked, why stop?

And so the devil said unto Jesus, "if thou art hungry, change these stones into bread."

To which Jesus responded, "No thanks, I already thought of that before you said it..."

OR.... "forty" is a Hebrew idiom meaning "a lot."

Let me guess:

If "forty" didn't mean "a lot," then Moses would have died too, wouldn't he?

Exodus 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

By Jove, I think you've got it! The Bible was written by Jews who used Jewish expressions in their writing!

And, according to the Abrahamic Covenant, Abraham was the father of "forty" nations, I take it?

Genesis 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

I should probably be quite offended at being compared to AV,but instead I'll let you explain where the forest is.

My point is that 40 days is both not literal and not relevant... he was out there for a while; do the details matter?
