  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A strange question for all Christians here

Long ago I came across a Pagan guy who said he practiced astral travel to travel to another realm, where there are dragons and other mythical creatures and stuff. As he described it, it seemed convincing but now that I'm a Christian I'm unsure. Occult practices are condemned in Christianity. And I believe in heaven and hell and I believe in the word of God. So is his stories true and it's me who's wrong, or is it him who's wrong? Chances are it could be in the head. I'm not sure. Visions aren't always true

In my opnion, if on the level he was feeding you a load of bull. I am sorry that this is still causing you some disquiet. Best thing to do is place it all into Gods more capable hands and ask God to grant you peace.

If he truly believed what he said I can only hope he is now in contact with a good mental health care team.

Astral projection is a well known and common practice in New Age and Witchcraft (Satanism). I've experienced a little of it myself in-between sleep and consciousness. There are other planes of existence, as the Bible speaks of the heavens and makes reference to the Kingdom of God being the third heaven. If Earth is the first heaven, as mentioned in Genesis, then there must be a 2nd heaven, or plane between Earth and Paradise.

In Revelations 12, Satan and his hoards are kicked out of the heavens. We also find in the Book of Daniel that powerful demonic entities fought against the angel for 21 days to keep him from delivering his message. I presume this occurred between the first and third heavens.

Your inquiry regarding astral projection is whether you should pursue and engage in such activity. The answer is "No". As Christians, need to submit to the Holy Spirit and have him guide our spirits. It's not for us to manipulate and control our spirits to do our carnal bidding. That's called witchcraft.

I've seen enough in this world to realize that I don't know nor have I experienced all that is going on in the physical world or the spiritual world. So I think some of that stuff we hear that is pretty strange is real. The problem when we get too far from the physical world we have no reality, like the law of gravity, to keep us bounded in some way. So our mind can just keep creating wilder and more far out ideas. There becomes no real test as to whether it is true or not.
I think we can play with our human spirit some, but once we start to connect with other spirits we don't have a way of seeing if they are giving us a line or not. So I don't go there and don't recommend others do.

Since you are now a Christian, why should his stories (true or false) matter to you? You know the truth. Just ask him to read the Bible and know the turth for himself.

I have heard several times in my life that, in the first century, the first heaven was thought of as the sky where the birds fly. The second heaven was where the moon, the sun, and the stars are. The third heaven was were God and the Angels are. Maybe someone has different information about that but I am just telling you what I heard in College and Seminary.

Some justify doing astral travel because Philip was transported. When I read that account, I particularly notice that Philip didn't do it but The Spirit of The Lord caught him away, (Acts 8:26, 39, 40). So I encourage them not to do that nor do I.

I've read the results of folks doing this type of behavior and it doesn't have pleasant endings. You know when Yahweh does something like He did with Philip, it's for His purposes. So if He does it fine but otherwise we need to be content with where we are.

Absolutely right. Astral travel is an integral part of occultism, and it is not something to be dismissed as delusional. But it is Satanic with evil spirits involved.

I agree with everything this man said. I'll even add some more. I had a very close cousin who used to drive me nuts with stories like the one the pagan guy told you. That was 25 yrs ago, and back then I didn't believe such things could even be possible. But I was too concerned arguing they weren't real. Whether it is real or not, I wanted to help my cousin. I became so immersed in the argument that I failed to see my cousin was starting to experience what dayhiker described. My cousin was losing his ability to know the difference between what was real and what he believed. Before too long it wasn't about just astral projection anymore. He quit working because he claimed God gave him a mission on Earth similar to that of Moses. He also claimed he'd live forever. Eventually I couldn't even speak to him anymore. Astral projection may be real, but everything else was false. This story has an unhappy ending because he died very unexpectedly at only 62. He never came back to what we call reality, and up 2 weeks before his death I couldn't reach him. I had never given up trying, even though bad things usually happened to me when I contacted him. It wasn't him doing them. It was something else, something that did not like God or a man who always spoke of Him.

Steer clear of all this stuff, because it's literally a matter of life and death.

Astral projection is real and imo just another confirmation our souls are not attached to our bodies. Astral projection however, is no more than an out of body experience and you can not travel to some mythical planet with dragons. Seems like he was trying to fool you. I wouldn't try astral projection again now that I'm a full believer in God and Christ.
I have had numerous out of body experiences, too many to count, from migraines alone :(

From my understanding, one of three things is going on with this man. Either he's consciously feeding you a load of bull, needs medication and/or a shrink because he's not right in the head, or the scariest option, that he's messing with some demonic stuff, in which case I'd suggest you steer clear of him. My take on the matter is for you not to get involved with that, because as previous posters have pointed out, Satan and the occult realm is not something to play around with, because those results will be tragic.

So you have come to believe planes of existence is true, based on an experience you had between sleep and consciousness?? If you can believe that, we can't look down on those who believe astral projection takes them to real places.

The imagination is a fantastic instrument in the hands of evil spirits. The things they can create for one to experience is out of this world. It's their way of gaining control simply because the person believes it.

I'm not saying every experience is demonic, but it highlights the "power" of the imagination, and opening one's mind to belief. The results are never good.

That's quite a story, dude. it's so tragic that you lost your cousin because of all that. You gave me something to think about. I'm still wondering if what the Pagan guy saw was real or if it was all in the head.

All that can be known about the other side, the supernatural, this other dimension, must be very carefully taken directly from the Bible...

Sounds to me like your friend is hallucinating or having delusions of grandeur to me, how can he know what's on the other side, we can only know what we can know, from the Bible...

God Bless!

I'm done "chasing fantasies", I don't even like movies and popular entertainment anymore, I want to know what's "real", what's the true story?Somebody should write a book about what can be known about the supernatural realm from the Bible,

Anyways, I'm done with "Chasing fantasies" I've been sifting through them for years, they all always run out and leave you empty in the end, and oftentimes full of a head of lies about spiritual matters similar to the cultural norm, but when the "mystery's" over, like reading a book, only thank God for the infinite mystery contained in the scripture...

I think that's what he might mean about him like being a well of water of which you can forever thirst, and drink from and be satisfied for a time then you find you desire to drink of it's waters again, and it's a well you can keep coming to and will never be dried up...

Anyways, I've been meditating and praying and taking in knowledge of scripture, and meditating on it, and it just raises a whole new set of questions every time, to live in the wonder...

God Bless!

I kept chasing the fantasy that I had a specific spiritual gift that I didn't have, and long story short, I lost everything I had ever worked for except for a high school diploma. I still have a lot that God gave to me, but nothing I have right now did I earn with my own two hands. In my personal opinion, chasing fantasies like astral projection or lies just make you more delusional, and, while maybe fun or interesting at first, take a toll on your life after a while.

ahh it always cause me to raise one of my pet topics ...

what is real ,is not automatically truth .

satan in serpent form lied to eve in Eden .. he really did that ..it was real , he told a real lie .

people can trespass into the supernatural spiritual realm .. but that is exactly what it is ..it is a trespass.

the lord Jesus said thieves and liars don't come through the door to the sheep fold (the place of the spirit ) they sneak in another way and at the judgement shall be cast into outer darkness forever.
the lord Jesus said "i am the door' and " no one comes to the father but through me "
and God has said that mediums and all such (those who access the spiritual realms by means which are opposed to his most holy decree) are an abomination to him ... but he never says what they do is not real .. it is just not truth ..it is a deceptive lie which works in the doer and those he/she influences a work unto damnation if they do not repent of it .

So you're implying that what my pagan friend sees is real, but it's not truth either?
