  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That article is neither scientific nor truthful. It's horse manure through and through.
Making a false statement out of ignorance is a mistake. Making the same statement after knowing the truth is a lie. Jacob may have believed that the branches were to credit for the speckled or striped sheep, but any breeder or EVOLUTIONIST will tell you that breeding two animals with the same mutation has a greater likelihood of passing that mutation on to the offspring. So to the man of faith who reads the story, he knows that Jacob's faith in God resulted in God multiplying his wealth. To the skeptic, it's just a case of selective breeding. In either case, the story told is entirely possible.

You stating that it didn't happen with no evidence beyond your own incredulity is nothing short of a lie.

AV,

I have a graduate degree in a science related field and believed for a good 20 years after earning that degree, so defending the belief in regards to science had zero to do with not believing in Christianity any longer.
So in other words, you believed but were never saved. The demons also believe, but they aren't saved either. Believing isn't the same as having a close personal relationship with the Lord. Had you done that, you could no more deny His existence than that of anyone else you've known in your life.

Faith is a difficult thing. Unless you invite the Lord into your life and have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the things you read in the Bible and the things you're taught at church don't give you the strength to overcome the daily barrage of people claiming that we live in a purely physical world and that no greater force exists. Even on a Christian website we are constantly flooded with the unsaved who are here for no reason other than to make themselves feel good by attacking the faith of others.

So ask yourself why you're here. Are you secretly hoping that someone will show you something that will help you find that part of you which was lost? Are you really seeking a reason to believe in something greater than yourself? Are you looking for answers, or merely trying to show us ignorant Christians that we don't know anything about anything? Have you given much thought as to why you spend your time on a Christian website, talking to believers in a God you once thought you knew but to whom you never surrendered yourself?

Think about it.

Maybe Jacob did understand that striped and blemished animals could come from unblemished animals that had been part of a mixed flock, which is what your article claims. However, that isn't the point of the criticism.
The inerrant Bible, written by Moses (maybe) using the direct inspiration of an omniscient God, attributes the cause for new striped animals to the breeding in the presence of striped sticks. Your article even admits that the Genesis writer(s) got it wrong.

The point is that the inerrant Bible is wrong with regard to this particular incident. In a place where God could have revealed an anachronistic understanding of modern genetics, the Genesis writers were allowed to go with an old wives tale presented as truth.

If Time is a factor within evolutionary processes and time can be reproduced in a lab. Even under the perfect living conditions for a one cell bacteria how is it that humans still produce humans and gestation stays constant?

*eyeroll* Why would bacteria "in perfect living conditions" evolve?

A very good point. This is referred to as "stabilizing selection." Where there is no selective pressure, the status quo is normally maintained.

So humans are a stabilized breed now?

Non sequiter. We were discussing the evolution of species on earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZwVCjhq3YI

The issue is every time Evolution is discussed; we have a biological and a physics debate wether we are talking about adaptation or the Big Bang. So, non sequitur it will be.

"Natural process" Please explain how evolutionary beginnings of a universe are natural.
Ah, now I understand, you belong to the Hovind school of defining evolution

* NOTE: When I use the word evolution, I am not referring to the minor variations found in all of the various life forms (microevolution). I am referring to the general theory of evolution which believes these five major events took place without God:
1. Time, space, and matter came into existence by themselves.
2. Planets and stars formed from space dust.
3. Matter created life by itself.
4. Early life-forms learned to reproduce themselves.
5. Major changes occurred between these diverse life forms (i.e., fish changed to amphibians, amphibians changed to reptiles, and reptiles changed to birds or mammals).

So humans are a stabilized breed now?

Species, not breed. We have neutralized many environmental factors in our evolution with technology. For example, being near-sighted does not reduce fitness anymore, therefore it will persist. There are still some selective pressures, but I would say in general, they are greatly reduced.

The default is biological evolution. Maybe you should specify which type of evolution you are discussing, since they are all different.

Do you believe that humans evolved from chimps?

The inerrant Bible, written by Moses (maybe) using the direct inspiration of an omniscient God, attributes the cause for new striped animals to the breeding in the presence of striped sticks.
Absolutely 100% incorrect. It was a combination of his faith in God to reward his labors with prosperity, and doing something unique which he believed would cause the sheep to give birth to striped offspring. Remember, any perfectly white sheep birthed by his flock had to be turned back to his employer because he couldn't prove ownership. Notably, there was no mention of the employer sending Jacob any newborn striped sheep, so Jacob did a pretty good job of culling out the "defective" ones.

In another passage we see crossed sticks causing an ax head to float. Was it the sticks or the faith in God that caused the steel to rise to the surface of the water? Did bathing in the Jordan river cure leprosy, or was the physical act of faith sufficient that God removed the sickness?

Any part of the Bible alone may seem to not make much sense, but taken it its totality the reader understands that deciding factor was not the actions taken but faith involved. Could Laban have duplicated what Jacob had done; using stripped sticks to produce striped sheep? No. Laban didn't have the element of faith. The true lesson; lost to those who simply can't get it; is that the Lord rewards those who have faith in him.

Some of us know that from life experience. Some will never understand.
