This was mentioned from day one.

The difference is that the argument was once used to as an instrument to shame Republicans into supporting it. No it is being used as a derogatory against the legislation itself.:D

Democrats now backing away from Obamacare - Finance Post

"However, the problem Democrats have is that they are still stuck with the fact that at the time the Affordable Care Act was passed not a single Republican voted for the law and it was passed solely by Democrats. This means for good or bad, the Democrats effectively own the issue."

One paper by the Heritage Foundation does not mean it was something endorsed by the Republican Party.

Perhaps not, but authoring a bill using the ideas put forth in that paper, co-signed and endorsed by the party itself, would.

The 1993 Chaffee bill is very similar to what finally became the Affordable Care Act, and both feature ideas initially put forth by the Heritage Foundation, most notably the individual mandate.

But look, if the GOP wants to scrap "Obamacare" and repeal the bill entirely, perhaps they'd now support an idea as far away from Obamacare's market-based idea of using private for-profit health insurance to insure all Americans. Maybe it's time for the GOP to support single payer!

-- A2SG, it's pretty much the exact opposite of Obamacare, in just about all respects....

GOP support single payer. Yeah, right. Might as well as Democrats to support ending the EPA.

But I notice how no one really refutes the fact that Democrats are running away from Obamacare.

I think they should. They should have kept running after the GOP proposed it in 1993 with the Chaffee bill, and insisted on a single payer model instead of a conservative market-based plan.

-- A2SG, but that's just my little old liberal opinion....

Yes, but the ACA was supposed to fix this kind of problem, not create it.

It didn't create the problem, but it didn't fix it either.

-- A2SG, that's what comes of expecting conservative market-based solutions to fix conservative market-based problems....

The lady lost her insurance because Obamacare made it "illegal" meaning it didn't carry the 12 mandated items such as contraception, so her insurance ceased to exist, thanks to the ACA.

Yeah, I read that. Like I said, the ACA didn't fix the problem.

-- A2SG, and under a single payer plan, she wouldn't lose coverage at all.....

What country has the most ideal single payer plan that I can go study? Maybe give me two or three if you have them. I'm not the kind of person to reject ideas because I don't understand them. Tell me more.

I've heard good things about Canada's system, as well as Australia and Germany (which has a hybrid system), but don't let me skew your research. Here's a list of countries with single payer or similar plans, and when they adopted them.

Have fun!

-- A2SG, keep in mind we don't have to follow the exact plan of any other country, we're free to adapt the idea to suit our own unique needs....

Not sure I think Canada is a good system. Wasn't the Canadian health care system just in the news for problems and looking at some substantial changes to it (same with England)?

I'll go check the Aussies and the Germans though, and thanks for the list! Hope you are doing well tonight. I'm about tuckered out, but always enjoy a good discussion/debate with you! Take care, and hope you have a great week ahead! If all liberals were as easy to talk to as you, we might be able to solve some key differences and actually move this nation forward.

Perhaps. No system is perfect, but a system that seeks to fix its problems is obviously better than one that actually exacerbates theirs, no?

-- A2SG, but maybe that's just me....
