  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No new Mosques?

again this is not true because I already commented on it where I put many possibilites to thr truthfulness of his claim.
Right, and on the Mecca website it says that Allah is a moon god and he hides in the Kabaa. In fact, you wrote such a thing yourself on this forum just yesterday...

... What do you mean you didn't write it! I'm telling you, it's in one of your posts! It's not there? Oh, that means you obviously deleted it!

Many of the Soviet States were predominately Muslim. Russia annexed Most of the Asiatic Muslim Nations with the spread of the USSR

In most Nations the Muslims are not immigrants, but natives of the Nation.

The Muslims in China are Chinese, The Muslims in Indonesia are Indonesian, The Muslims in India are Indians, etc

In Nearly every nation the Muslims are not immigrants but are natives of the land that had accepted Islam or like in the case of Russia natives of the land conquered by Russia..

This massive migration from Islamic nations of the past 50 years is the result of wars and poverty.

Or all the Christians could convert to Islam and then everything would be a mosque!
Conversion to Christianity solves the shortage of head cloth for the girls and prayer mats to face Mecca with issue from a mass conversion to Islam so Christianity is the cheaper more logical alternative.

I have a better idea than these mosques, they can convert to Christianity and build a few more Christian churches instead.

You would be surprised as to how many of us came from Christianity.

Every Muslim in the world, has non-Muslim Ancestors, often just one or 2 generations in the past. For many of us if we are self did come another religion our parents or grand parents did.

Very often we come from a Christian family tree. Nearly every Muslim has some Christian relatives that they know. Some Muslims are married to Christians.

Many perhaps most of us do have at least one copy of the Bible and read it often. We do not deny there is truth to be found in the Bible.

Many of us see no harm in reading the Bible. Most Islamic Nations do not forbid the bible to be brought into the Nation. Most Muslim nations have quite a few Churches.

Sadly the events of the past 50 years have caused considerable ill will between Muslims and Christians in the Mideast and parts of Africa.

For some of us we see Christianity as being to us what Judaism is to Christianity.

The NT is our OT.

The majority of Muslims have no hatred or animosity towards Christian, we just believe Christians are in error and probably not through their own fault but through heritage.

Ah, but Muslims do not tithe. I saved 10% of my income by converting. As for a prayer rug any clean material can be used. I often use a newspaper or plastic bag when traveling. the prayer rug has no religious significant. It's purpose is to keep your clothes clean.

They can be very ornate or as simple as a newspaper/plastic bag/sheet of cardboard..

As for a Hijab, I'm in North Dakota any sensible person has their head covered when they go outside here.

Ok so there now is the issue of alignment of said newspaper/rag/mat with Mecca. This will require mass production of compasses or gps tracking devices because if your a couple of degrees out you could be praying to Israel or Greece and worse still The White House and your prayers won't be answered. So as I stated earlier this conversion to Islam to is far too complicated for a whole nation.

Christianity just uses a simple bible as well as some man made traditions from your local church and nothing much more.

Ah, but if we do not know the direction of the Qibblah we can just make it our intent to pray towards the Qibblah and that will suffice.

TRIVIA: It is only for the 5 Salat (obligatory prayers) we face the qibblah for. For our Du'a (personal prayers) we can face in any direction as long as we are not facing something visibly disrespectful such as a manure pile, etc.

Our salat is basically the same as what Christian call a worship service or Mass. Except we all face the same Alter which is the Qibblah inside the Kabah in Mecca. there is no alter inside individual Mosques, we all face the same alter. The interior of a Mosque is low Budget no Alter, Very plain open room, no pews etc.

Being inside a Mosque for our Salat is not essential. Many of us only go inside the Mosque for Salat if it is raining. (or in my case snowing)

Here is a picture of My Favorite Mosque it is located in Ross ND

Ah, but if we do not know the direction of the Qibblah.

Not a problem:

Finding ANY Qibl'ih--be it Muslim, Baha'i, or whatever--is very straightforward.

Simply stretch a string or rubber band on a globe between the qibli'h in question and your position.

The direction it departs from you is the great-circle direction to that qibl'ih.

Piece of cake! :)

I've been in a few mosques. The last time was when my uncle died and he was buried there. He had converted to Islam after having serving time in jail. It was very interesting, although I was a bit uncomfortable there. Oddly enough, those have to do with tensions that are created by people none of us probably knew in a country we didn't live in!

Our synagogues are built so that when we face the Torah ark, we face Jerusalem. Specifically we're facing where the Temple stood.

In Roman Catholic and Most Anglican Churches the Alter is at the Eastern Wall so the Congregation faces East.

I believe it is only some American Fundamentalist Christians that do not have a prescribed direction to face during formal prayer. i suspect many Christians are unaware the Churches are designed so the congregation faces east during prayer.

I'd imagine most Jews do know that we face Jerusalem, but some might not know why. Solomon, in his speech dedicating the Temple, stated that when we were carried off to other lands, we should pray toward the Temple for forgiveness and HaShem would hear our pleas and forgive us our sins. So, our synagogues are designed so that our services pray toward Jerusalem.

The Little Mosque on the Prairie. :)

Although it is the location of the First Building constructed as A Mosque in North America it is not the one the TV show was modeled after. That one is the Mosque locate on the Praire up North In Saskatchewan Province I believe or Maybe Alberta.

The original one in Ross was made out of wood and the Family that built it could no longer maintain it It fell itno Dispair in the 1970s and This Cinder block one was than constructed by the Family. They were some of the Earliest settlers in ND and the land has been in the family for several Generations. The Mosque is quite small and can only hold 8 people.

Like most Mosques it was built and maintained by the Imam and his family.

Quite often the Imam is not paid, and is responsibly for all costs associated with maintaining a Mosque. It can be expensive to be an Imam.

Although now especially in the US it is becoming common for a local Islamic Society to form and pool together to build a Mosque. some actually have full time paid Imams.

In most of the Mosques I attend typically the oldest person present acts as Imam. At my age I am almost always the oldest person present.

I'd venture that most American Protestants don't pray to the East simply by numbers alone. Southern Baptists (being the largest single Protestant denomination in the country) definitely don't adhere to what they think are "superstitions" as such, and I'd imagine the same holds true for denominations that tend to be "less Mainline". That is Pentecostals, Baptists, Calvinists etc.

Not really a contest of your post, just an observation I've had throughout the years. I've noticed Anglican churches to be especially traditional in a neat, interesting way.

No problem. I am receptive to hearing all views. each of us has our own experiences that may often flavor our views and opinions. I find it very worthwhile to listen to and examine the views and opinions of other people. It is about the only way I can actually learn. I will never learn something new from someone who thinks the same as me.

Having been raised Roman Catholic I may be more aware of the alters being on the East side and have seen the same in all the classic Cathedrals I have seen. It is predominately a Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox thing. But world wide those make up over 60% of the people who wear the name of Christian.
