  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is anyone else watching the Strange Fire conference with John MacArthur?

A little bit of Googling reveals the Dr. (Michael) Brown referenced in some of the past few posts is, in addition to Charismatic, a Messianic Jew. I skimmed some of his online resources, and he seems to affirm the contemporary value of at least the "moral" portions of Torah, and opposes "hyper-grace."

He has a Web site.

Is being a Messianic Jew likely to affect his Charismatic credentials?

Why would it? Most Pentecostals or many have an "this is the End Times" theology. MJ fits right in there. My churches love going to there gatherings. Tend to be too legalistic for me but I love the people anyway. The legalism varies greatly depending on the congregation.
I have listened to Dr.Brown before, he is a good teacher, interesting. Don't know anything about him personally which is usually a good thing. There not in any scandal or celebrity status seems to be a good thing. LOL.
God bless, andrea

I have no idea if it ought to make a difference or not; that I why I asked.

God bless.

Another interesting video is this one

I always had problems with John MacArthur in some of his teachings, even when I was a Reformed Baptist. I wouldn't dare to call the Holy Spirit "Satan" as he goes for some times when comparing Charismatic gifts as works of him.

The video is Conrad Mbewe; an African preacher.

Not AFAIK. I had not heard of him previously, and others also seemed unaware of him, so I was just giving a bit of background.

I can't imagine why anyone other than religio-philes would listen to, or go to, an evangelical "conference". My God, they don't exactly have a reputation for throwing good parties.

"Hey, are you going to that conference next month, Steve?"

"Is that to discuss the big production switch with Corporate?"

"No, the evangelicals are going to talk about how miracles work."

"...you go on ahead, Scott, I'm out."

You make a valid, albeit amusing, point.

I doubt that any Catholic would put attendance at such a conference as a first priority item on their list of ToDos. ;)

You just gave me a great flashback. Twenty-some years ago, I heard a preacher say something like this: "If someone says to you, 'Brother, I want to tell you something in love,' you'd better brace yourself, 'cause what you hear next isn't going to sound anything like 'love.'"
;)
Amen.
^_^
Flash back too!!

I had a friend that would always get in my "bubble"
(personal space) You know, a "close talker".
If I sat at the dining table across from her, she'd
never fail to come sit next to me AND scoot her
chair closer. If i went to the kitchen for something,
she'd often follow me around talking.
One time we were out on my 3 season porch, sitting
at a tall, 4 chair cafe table.
One time, I had run inside for a second, came back
out and sat across from her.
She looked at me like I was some criminal and said that
she saw "the devil" in me. Said that when I was inside
she had "blessed" the chair next to her (which i avoided
like the plague because I wanted SPACE! lol)
Never forgot her saying she saw the devil in me.
Worst thing anyone's ever said to me!!

Methinks we need better instruction in the churches.
