  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Lord's day.

The Lord' s day is Sunday.

  • There is biblical evidence that Sunday is the Lord's day.

  • There is no biblical evidence that Sunday is the Lord's day.

  • I don't care if Sunday is the Lord's day or not.

Saturn is greater than God? God claimed the day but He certainly said nothing about Sunday.
The interesting thing about it is that God blessed Sabbath, and we decide to give Sunday. Is that not like King Saul? It is better to obey isn't it?

The sun is greater than God? God claimed the day but He certainly said nothing about Saturday.

The interesting thing about it is that Jesus rose from the grave on Sunday, and we follow apostolic example by gathering every Sunday to remember Christ's resurrection. Is that not like the apostle Paul? To obey is better than sacrifice, isn't it?

MoreCoffee,

re: "...we follow apostolic example by gathering every Sunday to remember Christ's resurrection."

I'm not aware of any scripture that says that the apostles gathered every Sunday [first day of the week?] to remember the resurrection. What do you have in mind?

re: "Is that not like the apostle Paul?"

Scripture doesn't say.

re: "To obey is better than sacrifice, isn't it"?

To obey what?

Jesus wanted us to cerebrate his death not his resurrection.

Luke 22:19-20
New International Version (NIV)

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.[a]

This would be done each year as a Memorial of his death and perfect life, if we did every Sunday or Saturday it would lose it's true meaning surely?

Catholics celebrate the Holy Eucharist every day if they are able.

Do they make money by doing it every day?

No. To sell the Lord would be a most heinous sin. Why do you even think such horrible things about Catholic Christians?

How many days are there in your week? If Sunday is the first day of the week, then wouldn't that make Saturday the 7th?

What command is there that has to be obeyed to gather on Sunday? If the disciples gathered every Sunday that does not mean they did so in place of keeping the sabbath.

Really? Jesus' death without the resurrection is meaningless. We're not celebrating death with the Lord's Supper.

from scratch,

re: "We're not celebrating death with the Lord's Supper."

As far as scripture is concerned, 1 Corinthians 11:26 says - "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." Nothing is said about proclaiming the Lord's resurrection.

Saturn has nothing over the SUN ;)

Mat 13:6
And when the sun was up, they were scorched;
and because they had no root, they withered away.

Rev 16:8
And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun;
and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9
And the men were scorched with great heat and they blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues:
and they repented not to give Him glory.

His death is what was important as Jesus give his perfect life up for us, as he would have lived forever remember, it was that price he paid, which is more important than the resurrection, as it was a corresponding ransom he give.

(1 Timothy 2:4-6) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all.

Hope this put's things into context.

They were doing it in the dark ages. It use to be called penance and also buying people out of purgatory.

Is this Bugger King or something? I guess you can have it your way. I still say Jesus' death without the resurrection has no value. I certainly remember what Jesus did for me. I celebrate the proof of victory - resurrection of the dead into life.

Jesus didn't say remember My death in LK 22:20, Mat 26:28 or MK 14:22.

Well I never Brother, where are you coming from, scratching one's head, you have me scratching mine, as you seem to not get what Jesus's death meant.

Didn't Satan just want him to do one act of worship, wasn't he obedient right up to to his death to his father, that is what was important, his resurrection was important as he was able to present himself to his father having accomplished what his death meant to humankind, not his resurrection you a playing on words.

What did Jesus say because of his future death, having not sinned, do you get the point, Scratch that was worth celebrating was it not?

(John 16:33) 33 I have said these things to YOU that by means of me YOU may have peace. In the world YOU are having tribulation, but take courage! I have conquered the world.”

OK, one can't have a resurrection without dying first. Absolutely the death of Jesus is important, very important even crucial. I'm not playing down the death required for my salvation. I certainly acknowledge it as vital. I also acknowledge the death of Jesus without His resurrection would have been a failure.

So yes in that sense I celebrate the death of Jesus. I remember Him both in death and the resurrection.

My focus point is slightly different than most. I like victory and the resurrection is victory.

Thank you for bringing up the Corinthian passage.

Would it put any different light on Jesus' death if He hadn't risen from the dead? Seems it sure made a difference to His first chosen disciples.
