  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is not honoring the sabbath a sin?

And guess what folks?

I fully agree. Hows bout that for mind blowers?

The law and grace provide different things by different means.

Did you bother to consider that the Word became flesh, rose and His Spirit now lives in us?

Hebrews 4:4 tells us that WHO is LIVING and ACTIVE?

uh, yeah.

THE WORD.

and where might the LOCATION of LIVING WORD be?

hmmm?

such difficult math.

Weren't the Pharisees admonished for this type of legalism?
Nope.

Scripture teaches that Sabbath is for our rest and enjoyment, for YHVH's glory. The Pharisees were admonished for adding man-made restrictions to the Sabbath until it became a huge burden.

Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath / head of church
a. attend services - fellowship of the brethren
b. do not work for wages - servile labor - lucre, mammon
c. rest , body, family , recharge
d. spend some time thanking God for week and asking for same next week

Pharisees and Sadducees were full time preachers ...several thousand of them, take care of church, upkeep, sacrifice... making laws for others working full time and going to church part time, like you and I...hypocrites ... took ten commandments and came up with list of 200+ things to do and 300+ things not to do...like our politicians...

That's not what I meant. if you knew better the NE law does speak of this has a sin but I speaking of the sabbath and animal sacfices has not be uphold.

Acts 20:7 Ἐν δὲ τῇ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων συνηγμένων τῶν μαθητῶν τοῦ κλάσαι ἄρτον ὁ Παῦλος διελέγετο αὐτοῖς μέλλων ἐξιέναι τῇ ἐπαύριον παρέτεινέν τε τὸν λόγον μέχρι μεσονυκτίου - "and upon one of the sabbaths, the disciples came together to break bread ..."

Luke 18: 18-22:

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? http://biblehub.com/luke/18-19.htmAnd Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. http://biblehub.com/luke/18-20.htmThou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. http://biblehub.com/luke/18-22.htmNow when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Notice something missing? The rich ruler, nor Jesus, mentioned anything about the Sabbath at all. If honoring the Sabbath was hyper-important, wouldn't Jesus have corrected the rick ruler? Wouldn't he have mentioned anything? He didn't!

Before people say "What about the other commands?", we are strictly talking about the Sabbath, so stick to *that* particular one.

Messiah did correct him. At the end of your quote, He commanded "follow me". Do you think this just means to follow Him wherever He wandered in Israel? Or, does this mean "do what I do"? Did Messiah honor the Sabbath?

Not sure if you noticed His opponents' criticisms against Him about sabbath keeping...
I sure did! They misinterpreted the commandment regarding Sabbath and judged Him based on their misinterpretation, and Messiah set them straight.

Which English bible uses that translation?
