  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but dont anymore.

When do you believe this switch-over happened? The Crucifixion, the Resurrection, the Ascension, Pentecost, etc.?

The Church is the Israel of God, and there was never a "switch". There has always been one historically continuous people of God, from Adam to today.

 :amen:

The phrase "Israel of God" only occurs 1 time in the Christian Bible.

Gal 6:16
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

There is a rather lenghthy discussion on this thread concerning that, for those interested:

Allow me to rephrase my question. When do you believe the Church began?

Allow me to rephrase my question. When do you believe the Church began?

Many people would say that the church began in 33AD, and I understand why they say that, and depending on how we define "begin", I can technically agree. But I would maintain rather that the "church" began at creation when God created Adam. Since that time there has always been a people of faith, even if it was only a small number at times. Of course, with Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit, God has given us something that He never gave mankind before that, and has begun to innaugurate His kingdom in a way that He never had up until that point, and the way that we relate to Him changed forever - there were a lot of things that were new and different about man's relationship to God - but there was still a people of faith, just as there always had been.

Paul (I forget the exact passage off the top of my head, but I'm sure you're familiar with it) says that the church is "built on the foundation of the prophets and the apostles, Christ being the chief cornerstone". And by "prophets" he is referring to the Prophets of the Old Testament. This is reflected in John's apocalyptic vision of the New Jerusalem, whose 12 gates are the 12 tribes of Israel, and whose 12 foundations are the 12 Apostles (I do not believe that the New Jerusalem is an actual city that we will live in, but is symbolic of the church. The contrast of the two "cities" in Revelation is a contrast between two "peoples" or two "systems". Either we can choose to be part of old Babylon, or we can choose to be part of new Jerusalem). So whether in plain speech or in apocalyptic vision, the Apostles show us that there is a continuity between the Old and the New, and that both are part of the one People of God.

I gave up on the 'Complementarian' marriage model (the husband is the 'head'/leader of the wife and the wife must submit in all things to her 'lord') ;)
lol. Whatever floats your boat ;)

Weird, so did we. So... 1-1 there.
Well we must have read different parts.
:p
We did the same, plus unquestioning acceptance of pastoral authority.
