American sci-fi vs. English. Come on! One has Star Trek, the other has Dr. Who? LOL!!! BBC is brutal!

We have The Walking Dead, Lost, man, need I even go on!?....the shows you mentioned, gotta say, pretty thin, Meghan. That stuff would put me to sleep, fast!

Although, for some reason, Americans are now taking to an obsession with white trash. Duck Dynasty, Dog the Bounty Hunter, American Hoggers, Honey Boo-Boo, Jersey Shore.....Americans right now are at a Jerry Springer level of entertainment value. That being said, I think we have SOME good stuff left and historically we smoke the Brits with entertainment in TV and film

those are only a few channels that show that kind of trash. there are a plethora of shows available on different networks.

Essentially pudding is blood?

Ok, well then i cook my meats and the blood comes out of it - i scrape it off. Cos i just dont do blood so well.

:o I mean - i like to try stuff - i really am a sport about stuff - i figure cooks know what to do. Its hard to get past the idea of it. :holy:

I even tried sushi - but its really not my thing.
I have tried many things - i dont know how adventurous i am.

At this moment in time i have a list of things i want to try even if it makes me vomit.
Luekfist [sp?]

Vegemite
[The equivalent in England and i cant think of its name atm]
Now blood pudding.

But not all in one day.

My mom got addicted to Vegemite when she went to Australia. Taste like salty vitamins. I believe the stuff in England starts with a M. Marmoset? I dunno, something like that.

That luskfish or however it is spelled, there are parishes in Wisconsin that make that stuff up during Lent.

I'm a big fan of Green Tea and highly recommend it to everyone, is from what i've researched the healthiest drink in the world, and helps protect against various diseases, etc... Those in China and Japan have been drinking the stuff for hundreds/thousands of years and they rank top two for highest life expectancies, for countries, so is possible it plays a part. My understanding is those in the UK drink black tea, if that's the case black, white and green tea all come from the same plant, they're just harvested at different times. Black tea has some health properties, they're not as good as Green though :)

Also i'd be careful of liptons green tea, a women years ago drank gallons of the stuff a day and got bone deformities. I'm not sure if that's really liptons fault though, because both tea naturally and tap water(added intentionally I believe) have flouride in them, so drinking too much of that is the cause.

That's an understatement! :p A lot of them have the Austin Powers thing going on! :p

it's actually a faulty stereotype. a country that has the worst teeth is poland. the british aren't as obsessed as us when it comes to whitening their teeth.

But if you look at many channels, it caters to white trash types of themes or tattoos or bikers or hicks of some kind. Heck, I flipped by the gameshow network the other night, they had a show hosted by Jerry Springer about baggage and they had contestants comparing each other's disgusting sexual dirty laundry, the things they had done, trailer park heaven.....

TV in general has gotten more redneck. There's just no denying it. I never said that EVERY SINGLE channel is like that, but it's a general trend....

I see a new game show is coming on called The Chase.

A big English guy they call The Beast is a quiz champ & takes on challengers. I want to see that.

I have to drink vitamins with something to avoid the taste.
Yuck.

Yah i hear lukefist or whatever is horrible smelling and tasting.

Thats pretty much all we drink.
I make a fresh pitcher almost daily...from tea leaves.

The sad thing is - ppl are 'rubberneckers' and love to see and watch 'losers' battle it out - putting it on tv - feeds the whole 'gossip' and need to watch thing.

Ppl like to see 'fail' happen in other ppl's lives.

Its all questionable in taste and i think the networks do this - to make fun of the ppl.
And i dont think anyone consciously realizes it.

What is the best green tea to drink?

I'll be back later guys. Going to eat lunch & walk my dogs around the lake.

Any you can get.
Store bought or simply buy green tea bags and make some...
I make hot and iced. In the summer its iced, in the winter its hot.

Has antioxidants that help the body resist cancers.

baggage has been cancelled. it didn't talk just about sex. it talked about oddities a person had, if they did something bad or they were highly insecure about something. one person wore special shoes to make themselves appear bigger than they actually are. one person liked to chew their own toenails. another person kept the remains of their cat in a drawer. one person secretly recorded her dates so she could get input from her mother to see if the person was a right fit.

the only channels that come to my mind that cater to those individuals that you speak of are MTV, TruTV, A&E, Spike, and TLC. TLC still has some informative programming. BRAVO does the reverse in showing the lifestyles of the posh, greedy, manipulative, well off people. you still have CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, USA, AMC, TNT, TBS, FX, HBO, Showtime, SyFy, and others.

every time I flipped by that show, baggage, it was pure sex talk. Throwing in a factoid about toe-nail clipping at 2am mixed in with comments about how many sex partners a person had plus swinging and dating strippers and hosts of other filth, I think it's pretty much sex talk. I flipped by that show night after night, would listen to it for like 4 minutes, and didn't hear anything but sex talk and "oooooh's!" from the audience.

there are talks about sex. I'm not denying that. they talk about weird things they like to do in the bedroom or things that arouse them. but they also talked about other things. a person bribed someone to get breast enhancement surgery. a person spoon feeds their animals. not having a car and living with a sibling. needing to cry a certain amount in a day. having to visit a psychic. wearing the same pair of socks for the whole week.

As far as the Royal Family, you kind of make my point for me. Americans WANT a royal family. They pulled the Camelot b.s. with the Kennedy's, the obsession with the Obamas, and you're right, we DO pour obscene money into them....most of which is secret service and insane amounts of security to keep them from being assassinated because we're the last superpower on earth (though the Russians are still, kind of LOL)...but yeah, I agree that it's nuts how much we pour into the first family....

I'll cede your point on fish and chips as well. The rest? bahhh^_^

We still have better teeth! LOL

Clearly we have different viewing preferences - I tend to like rather complicated, character driven shows. I also think one advantage you see with British tv is sort seasons, and often fewer seasons as well. So you dont get issues like on Lost where they are just trying to fill more time and they get all crazy and lose their way. Instead there is a real story arc - a bit like you get on some HBO series almost.

Also, they seem to have fewer hang-ups about having actors that do not look like models - even in sexy roles.

Dinner - well, what are the great American foods you are thinking of here to beat out the great British ones. Not, I think, the cheeseburger, or the pogo! The US has some great regional foods, as does the UK, and both have some terrible flops too, and increasingly people are eating disgusting processed things. Last night I had a great British recipe which was chicken cooked with apples, bacon, cider, cream, and sage. It was really yummy.

what are great british dishes? britain for the longest time was ridiculed for having the worst food out of all developed nations. only times being bested by finland with it's crazy concoctions such as shark burritos. have you ever had british bar food? you honestly need to be plastered in order to a.) eat it, b.) consider it as good.
