I read a meme the other day that got me curious...

Thanks for the answer. Is British tea light & watery? The pic I saw it was which made me wonder how it could even taste like tea at all. I'm used to seeing dark tea. Light tea seems like it would be tasteless.

Ya know i am with you on wondering.
But - Light tea would be an individual preference - its called white tea.
And not that this makes me an expert - but watching Shaun of the dead - [i think its Brit style] the mom was making and pouring a black tea type. It was dark.:holy:

Movies make us expert and all of that. ^_^

That's black pudding as you get it on your plate :)

Sliced about half an inch to an inch thick - then fried :) Oh it is an acquired taste I'll grant you that :)

I know a Ukrainian whose idea of joy is having a full Irish brekkie - he adores black pudding .

blood sausage. excuse me while I dry heave for a moment.

And its warm to boot.
I dont have a big taste for beer or anything like that - very much. I can drink it - only if its ice cold.
When it starts to warm up - i pour it. :sorry:
It takes on a new life when it gets warm.

Gasp choke.
^_^

I guess if you grew up eating the stuff you'd acquire a taste for it. I can't drink beer of any kind, gives me a throbbing headache. My hubby likes that Guiness beer made in Dublin. He says it has a licorice flavor. I took a sip & it just tasted horribly bitter to me. I hate licorice too! :p

But blood pudding... there is a Mexican dish here with intestines they make into a soup. Menudo. It's not too bad if you can get past the thought of it.

I would love to try tea made by a brit though. I'm just so curious about the difference.

I have to agree with this one. I have really tasted American tea (I forgot what brand) and it was less satisfactory compared to that of Twinings. Man! I love Twinings' teas. They are like the Western equivalent to that of Japanese green tea much to my liking.

My mom didnt put cola and stuff in the fridge. In fact - when my aunt used to send over a crate of soda bottles for Christmas - she kept it on the floor out of the fridge. SO i am aware - she is 2nd generation from Germany - that most drinks arent cold. Even til she passed on - drinks werent put in the fridge. [trust me i know]
Yup - grew up like that in fact.
Still, i prefer cold.
Especially anything alcoholic like beer or [ale?]
White tea is not called that over here - it's tea with milk [ note not cream or with hot milk ]

So its the name - but it is really just the type of leaves and not milk - as in the liquid?

O ok - i think a misunderstanding occurred.
White tea is the type of leaves used - it comes out 'lighter' than darker teas that are called black teas... and then there is green tea leaves.
It depends on the plant....
Not how many bags of tea are seeping.

So if its darker - it comes out dark - its black tea.
White tea is a light tea - ergo the name.
And green tea - looks greenish compared to the other kinds.

I researched the plants because i was seriously considering growing some in my yard.

I don't know what they put in sodas but you should be able to find them in a supermarket.

Essentially pudding is blood?

Ok, well then i cook my meats and the blood comes out of it - i scrape it off. Cos i just dont do blood so well.

:o I mean - i like to try stuff - i really am a sport about stuff - i figure cooks know what to do. Its hard to get past the idea of it. :holy:

I even tried sushi - but its really not my thing.
I have tried many things - i dont know how adventurous i am.

At this moment in time i have a list of things i want to try even if it makes me vomit.
Luekfist [sp?]
Vegemite
[The equivalent in England and i cant think of its name atm]
Now blood pudding.

But not all in one day.

:D

Thats syrup - but its not fruit syrup.
Its essentially a sugar loaded mix of flavorings added in.

American sci-fi vs. English. Come on! One has Star Trek, the other has Dr. Who? LOL!!! BBC is brutal!

We have The Walking Dead, Lost, man, need I even go on!?....the shows you mentioned, gotta say, pretty thin, Meghan. That stuff would put me to sleep, fast!

Although, for some reason, Americans are now taking to an obsession with white trash. Duck Dynasty, Dog the Bounty Hunter, American Hoggers, Honey Boo-Boo, Jersey Shore.....Americans right now are at a Jerry Springer level of entertainment value. That being said, I think we have SOME good stuff left and historically we smoke the Brits with entertainment in TV and film

As far as the Royal Family, you kind of make my point for me. Americans WANT a royal family. They pulled the Camelot b.s. with the Kennedy's, the obsession with the Obamas, and you're right, we DO pour obscene money into them....most of which is secret service and insane amounts of security to keep them from being assassinated because we're the last superpower on earth (though the Russians are still, kind of LOL)...but yeah, I agree that it's nuts how much we pour into the first family....

I'll cede your point on fish and chips as well. The rest? bahhh^_^

We still have better teeth! LOL

I have to disagree on a few.

I much prefer British tv to American. Blackadder, Prime Suspect, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Dr Who, Luther.... And to prove my point, just consider the atrocious failed attempts to translate great British shows to American shows - like Cracker, House of Cards, or Life On Mars. Usually the problem is that the Hollywood versions are unwilling to take risks with really smart writing, or really great actors who dont have Hollywood looks. (Cracker probably being the best example - not much point in a show about a profoundly flawed but brilliant man if you make him likeable so the viewers aren't offended.)

As far as the cost of the Royal family, it is about a fourth of the cost of the First family despite including more people, and they actually inject more money into the economy than they cost. So they are a net gain for the nation.

Also, I am pretty keen on British food. Which is not to say it cant be gross if it is badly cooked, but that happens everywhere. A great joint of beef with horseradish and yorkshire pudding, pies made of beef and ale, toad in the whole, eton mess, fish and chips with mushy peas, [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]-a-leekie soup, chicken tikka.... Even the French have some gross foods, like pork intestines stuffed with pork intestines, which taste like what you would expect an intestine to taste like. (That is, the stuff that comes out of intestines.)

I think 24 years worth means you sold your Scottish blood to Old Nick! ^_^ You traded your kilt and bagpipes in for a spot of tea! Shame! :p But then again, if Rowdy Roddy Piper was a Scottish-blooded Canadian and he got credit for being Scottish, you're ok...^_^

As far as your earlier question, do we get paid holidays? yes, I'm on one. I've been on vacation since the second week of June! :D

Well - it has to be admitted < hangs head in shame > I was born in England and lived my first 24 years there :)
