"Why" Revelation was "initially" written during Nero's reign before 70AD

A narrative by a “Tentmaker” with the help of friends

Matthew 4:19 Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for men.

John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
IF
ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free
.

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him,
to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass.

1 - The time statement in Revelation 1:1 refers to soon events of cataclysmic Jewish importance. If it was written in 96 AD, there are no events soon from that time that could even remotely fit. If, however, it was before 70 AD, then the destruction of Jerusalem rises to the occasion as both Jewish and cataclysmic. The time statements demand we look here.

2 - The 6th king in Revelation 17 is the one that persecutes the saints. Roman leader-emperors
of the Julian dynasty are (1) Julius Caesar, (2) Augustus, (3) Tiberius, (4) Caligula, (5) Claudius, then (6) Nero. Nero was the first and only Roman Caesar of the Julian line to persecute Christians. Nero's death ended the Julian dynasty. The one ruling after him reigned only a little while, Galba, 6 months who was the seventh.

3 - If the 6th king is indeed Nero, he would be the one that "now is" according to the prophecy, and this would date the writing before 68 AD when Nero supposedly committed suicide. Nero also persecuted Christians for 42 months as is stated in the prophecy. The 7th king of Revelation 17 is not yet here. If Nero is the 6th, then the book was written before Galba, i.e. before 70 AD.

4 - Caesar Nero's name in Hebrew gematria adds up to 666. Since this was written about “soon” events, no other person can be found within this time scope whose name fits this requirement and description. Especially none can be found in the “soon” future of 96 AD.

5 - Some versions have a few manuscripts that have the number of the beast as 616 instead of the Hebrew 666. (You can find this stated in almost any Study Bible). What is shocking is that using gematria Caesar Nero's name would add up to 616 in those versions, but in Hebrew, 666. This is very strong evidence that Caesar Nero really was the one being referred to as the beast and that the change from 666 to 616 in some manuscripts was intentional for that very reason. It is nearly impossible to find any other person's name in that time frame that would do this!

6 - What purpose would it serve for John to tell the first readers of his prophecy to "calculate" the number of the name of the beast if he was not to be born until 2000 years later? This implies that the beast was living at the time of this writing, thus proving not necessarily the pre-70 AD writing, but definitely the "at hand" time statements of the book.

7 – Early Syrian versions of the Book of Revelation has the title of "John the Evangelist in the Isle of Patmos, where he was thrown by Nero Caesar." Nero, of course, was dead by 68 AD.

8 - If in Revelation 11:1 John the Evangelist is referring to some rebuilt temple in the far distant future he is sent to measure, and he is writing in 96 AD, then his complete silence about the destruction of the temple in 70 AD is deafening!!!

9 - The incredible parallels of Matthew 24 and Revelation, which Jesus said would happen in "this generation" and "when . . . Jerusalem (is) surrounded with armies". Most of that generation were dead in the time of 96 AD and Jerusalem was surrounded with armies in 70 AD.

10 - According to the epistles to the churches and Revelation 2:9 & 3:9, there were still Judaizers presenting problems in the churches. This particular issue would be ridiculous after the holocaust of 70 AD and the resulting diaspora of nearly all in Israel except for the less “religious”.

[Editor's Note: Because any teachings by any fallible man, including this narrative, could unwittingly be flawed, all Christians should be as the Bereans in Acts 17:11, and should ask the Holy Spirit to guide them into the truth, and to discern doctrines that can be judged by their fruitfulness in strengthening Jesus' Kingdom while also encouraging loving-holiness towards God and “all” others.

When the Book of Revelation, (and the verse
Revelation 18:4), was written during Nero's reign it encouraged an exodus from Mystery Babylon prior to its impending destruction(s), similar to Nahum's writings that encouraged believers to flee Nineveh prior to its holocaust by the Babylonians, and similar to Jesus' teachings from The Book of Daniel that encouraged believers to flee Jerusalem prior to its holocaust in 70 AD. During Nero's reign The Book of Revelation encouraged an exodus from both Jerusalem and Rome since they both have seven hills and both had a history of martyring God's prophets.

Today The Book of Revelation continues to encourage believers to flee from all Mystery Babylon communities. These are idolatrous non-relational religious communities whose leadership would promote fruit destroying doctrines-of-men, that are materialistic-idolatrous, lascivious, or lustful; or that would teach the opposite of the truth concerning our Father God's immeasurable faith hope love and eternal efforts for “each” and “all” of His prodigal children; until Colossians 1:20 and 1John 3:8 would eventually be fulfilled, when “hopefully” “all” might eventually be reconciled back to His Kingdom in Heaven as a result of the cross of Christ Jesus. (1Peter 3:18-20) (Matthew 19:30, 20:16, Mark 10:31) These Mystery Babylon communities are especially evident when they “martyr” those who attempt to expose doctrines of men and devils for the thievery, death and destruction they cause within our world and to Jesus' Kingdom.

Scripture teaches that Jesus is continually praying throughout His leadership's siftings and chastenings, in order that they would be taught the importance of continually-converting and mentoring others to pursue loving-holiness towards “all”, while simultaneously resisting all evil, “IF” they would pray to remain one of His chosen ambassadors and joint-heirs into the eternity ahead of them. Because of the Savior's prayers His mighty angels are continuously fulfilling 2Chronicles 16:9 without any favoritism within any culture or lineage, until “all” of His children would have matured and 1Corinthians 13:8-10 and Revelation 21 would be fulfilled and seen in the earth.

The results of Jesus' prayerful efforts would be that His children would have learned to work in concert with His Spirit to bring forth a best-case fulfillment of all apocalyptic “prophetic-scripture”, i.e. a best-case fulfillment of the Greek word katargeō in 1Corinthians 13:8, e.g. katargeō concerning Isaiah 17, Nahum 1:1&15c, Zephaniah 1:2,18c and 2:9. All the while the evil one, the devil Beelzebub, works to bring forth a worst-case fulfillment of all “prophetic-scripture,” by using the blasphemies, slanders, self-righteous bigotries, and Laodicean lethargy that all doctrines-of-men continually promote, whenever some wayward teachers have blindly used the Holy scriptures to multiply their sins towards God. As Paul was seduced to do prior to his seeing the Prince of Peace, and immediately he became a converted "universalist" ambassador for Christ Jesus his Lord and his eternal savior.

Revelation 21 reveals that at the end of this age every hardened soul who would have continually refused to receive the Gospel of the Kingdom into their hearts are destined to be left behind when Jesus' joint-heirs would be evacuated; and these few evil souls would then suffer for ages whenever a near earth nova would again sterilize the earth for a lengthy season.

Similarly to how judgment upon Jerusalem and its Church there was able to be minimized via the efforts of Jesus' Church prior to 70AD, what is being accomplished in our generation is again in the hands of Jesus' Holy Church, much more than in the hands of God's Holy Angels who are mighty in power but limited in number.

So I post these narratives with the hope that some who might read them would be like the Bereans, and so these views might improve upon one's previous understandings, after some souls would prayerfully consider them in-context with our Father God's infinite love concerning all of His prodigal creatures, and His sovereignty over the choices He is continually making concerning every soul He has ever created and placed within this fallen world, in order to continually improve upon it throughout the eternity ahead of us all. [1 Corinthians 15:35-44]

PS <><>A PERTINENT QUESTION FOR JESUS' JOINT-HEIR AMBASSADORS:<><>

Why do so many oftentimes “refuse” to “do” the eternally common sense within Leviticus 19:17-18?

And to fulfill the eternally common sense within Matthew 18:3 and Matthew 11:25 and Luke 10:21 and to “do” the eternally common sense within John 14:15 and John 14:23-24 and John 15:14 and Matthew 28:19-20?

O Lord, our Shekhinah Father God in the Heavens, give more of your children the courage and impetus they need so they would “do” your commandments and then would mentor others to “do” them also.

Leviticus 19:17-18 - - Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.

Matthew 18:3 - -
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 11:25 - -
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

Luke 10:21 - -
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

John 14:15 - - If ye love me, keep my commandments
.

John 14:23-24 - -
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

John 15:14 - -
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Matthew 28:19-20 - - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations
, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

PPS - The attached pic shows the natural violence that our world and universe can hurl against our mortal corruptible bodies, which is inevitably worsened when one would refuse to learn and grow and build for a better day for themselves and "all" others; and instead would war against the master builder Christ Jesus the Lord and Savior of the whole earth, who is the chief cornerstone of everything that our Shekhinah Father God has ever created in this world, wherein the devil had fallen prior to the first Adam being placed in the Garden of Eden.

Hi Steve,

I had to step out for a few minutes.

Today I felt compelled to post what I have learned thus far in my life concerning our futures, and what efforts more of us must become willing to expend in order to glorify our Heavenly God to our uttermost.

As this narrative has helped me to be more faith-filled and faithful towards our Heavenly God, I know it will also be "fruitful" for those others who would discuss it with another or would consider it via their own seeking-prayers.

For me, I feel that the "evidence" is overwhelming that Revelation was written before 70 AD.

If there is other evidence that others need to consider then I would appreciate your views, and then many people who would eventually read them would learn from them also.

We are all maturing in our grace and knowledge of Jesus, and blogs like this helps us all to mature as Jesus would want us to.

Thanks Steve for your post. Hope to hear back from you soon.

To all,
this is what I have been posting all along, most recently in 'Luke (Paul) on the DofJ'. Further back it was 'NT background about the DofJ' or some such. There is also the audio by Pastor Preston 'the woman and the beast' which is quite compelling, although there is always room for adjustments.

Servant, the material was great until after the editor's note. Then it was too much information and all over the place, like you were bi-polar or OI.

the best discussions are a few clear points and then waiting for response.

No doubt, Dougg will provide reasons why Nero cannot be the 6th because of some earlier accounting.

Steve,
"most" scholars is not very useful. If you can work up a list, that's different. I think D. Van meter's "Dating Game" about this issue is available online at SEARCHING TOGETHER, back a few years. He is able to write about quite a bit of detail without becoming complicated like I would.

Hi Interplanner,

What is DofJ ?

Sorry about my poor grammar style, but the editors note was the most insightful for me when it was sorted out for me after some seeking-prayers.

We are all in training to be a little more like Jesus every day, one day and one step at a time.

<><> <><

PS - March 2014 - For future readers, we oftentimes "say" things that is "very" difficult to take back. But after we have said or written something towards someone that is "disrespectful" or "derogatory" to their life-efforts or character we should always try to "make-amends" for our misstatements lest we would eventually reap what we had sown in a painful chastening way so we each might "mature" as we ought. Especially if it was done in writings or gossip or personal confrontations that might then become mentored by any others as acceptable behavior within the Kingdom of God. Paul learned this lesson and subsequently taught others about his many chastenings that were obviously a result of not resisting the Devil's wiles OR more likely for not resisting Satan's "sifting" temptations as much as he ought to have, since like taught in The Book of Job, Paul was also a called-out leader-in-training with continual oversights by our Creator's Semper-Fi leave-none-behind warrior angels. :prayer:

Concerning how the Apostle Paul was an "example" for us all and was taught via his sifting and chastening to mature-up in how he should always write or act towards "all" others, see the post at ><> http://www.christianforums.com/t7801680-18/#post65209155 <><

I also think the title is unfortunate. Our concern does not need to be on the dating of the thing; that should fall into place by the other common sense things you have mentioned. That's why my titles draw attention to what they do: NT background (instead of reading a few places in the NT just barely in touch with their times), and Luke on the DofJ, because there is so much detail.

I'm currently trying to find detail on the problem of the Galileans and rebellion, because of the connection of Lk 13:1-9 and 14:28-31. Towers and rebellious wars. If I'm not mistaken, the tower of Siloam was mentioned because of plans for a HQ to counter how the Antonia fortress overlooked the temple. The parable insinuates that the rebels were shortsighted more ways than one, financial and strategic. (That the tower fell because its foundation was sub-standard). 14:32 is the first use of the key phrase 'ta pros eirenen' which resurfaces in 19:42--what would make peace. 14:33 could be quite a direct hit on the Jewish/Galilean rebels; Jesus had lived there and suffered the connotation that he was one of them. 'You must give up your stupid fight to be my disciple.'

Steve,
"most" scholars is not very useful. If you can work up a list, that's different. I think D. Van meter's "Dating Game" about this issue is available online at SEARCHING TOGETHER, back a few years. He is able to write about quite a bit of detail without becoming complicated like I would.

I can't find this article anywhere--it's not showing up when I search the Searching Together site.

AC = antichrist
AofD = abomination that desolates
DofJ = destruction of Jerusalem 66+

Thanks Interplanner.

Some day we will all understand the same "truth" about the who what when where and why of scripture. In the interim I feel you would agree that we should strive to convey doctrines that would cause more to aspire to love God and be Holy - I think. And in my view many other peoples view of The Book of Revelation oftentimes encourages the opposite of Holiness - I think. Which is why I posted as I have, since my post gives me hope that it would encourage some to think differently about our futures.

Thanks for your insights.

Any further insights or comments anyone?

how it would it foster the opposite?

In my view it fostered a fatalism within me that was destructive to my health, whenever I came to believe that annihilation of much of the earth was our Heavenly Father's perfect will for us all. And there was nothing I or anyone else could ever "do" to work towards bringing forth much repentance in the world for our "obvious" sins. Since from Revelation 22:11 one's efforts would not make "any" difference to the "prophesied" outcomes of near total annihilation and obliteration of much of the earth, except for those who probably had survived by building their own fallout shelters.

Basically these are the doctrines of men we have all been taught concerning the Book of Revelation, which is why I had to pray about them until the Lord's Spirit showed me as much as I needed in order for my health to improve, and to give me peace and a greater passion for His Holiness, that I now attempt to convey and mentor to others. I could explain further about man's interpretations of these scriptures, but I think most everyone knows about the "1/3rd of mankind" scriptures and the seals, bowls, trumpets etc.

Thanks for posting. It allowed me to elaborate on my own testimony, so others will learn from my mistakes and might not err as naively as I once did.

Shalom,
AJCServant

It's good ACJ that you read it with feeling, ie, let it affect your feelings. I know people who are terrified by it, but they are sort of environmentalist about it, which doesn't help. My problem with many readers here is they don't let it sink it and are rather glib about it all, as it works in out in their future view. It's too much of a 'Rubic's cube' puzzle venture. Not enough "I was sick for days because of the vision" like Daniel about some of his. I have a hard time absorbing the destruction of it in the historical sense, which is my view, too.

Thanks for the post back Interplanner.

I have begun to see that James prophesied our future in James 2:13, and that our Father God's “mercy would triumph over judgments”
when Jesus would reveal His glorious city foursquare and thereby His power and also His long-suffering love towards us in the eastern clouds, but my concern for the U.S. is that because of the devil's seductions we have not taught the world very much about our Father God's mercy and love, so that we will likely not be as blessed as perhaps those on the mission fields will be when He comes in the clouds.

Thanks for posting again. It allowed me to again elaborate on my own testimony, so others will learn from my mistakes and might not err as naively as I once did.

Revelation 12:11

James 2:12-13 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

yes, the blessings are on the mission field. If you message has a mission built into it, then you are on the mission field. "The resurrection is proof that Christ justifies us from our sins" is that kind of message. If you open your mouth about it, you 'create' a mission field, sometimes even for those who consider themselves Christians.

Hi again Interplanner.

Thank you for your encouragements. So much that needs to be done in our "somewhat" spiritually-impoverished world. So I pray that we in His Church are all more effective in the years ahead than have been in the years past, in order to prepare us all and the world for Jesus' soon return in all of His glory and majesty and fruitful-love for "all" of His prodigal family.

We each must thank our Lord for the rare-gift of His Holy Spirit that guides us into the truth about our Lord and His vision for us all, that most can not discern "yet". Soon I pray that this lack of knowledge and vision could drastically change, but there is a work to be done to prepare the way for that day. So I continually especially pray that all those like us with insights and a passion to see souls saved would stay faithful and faith-filled and fruitfully prayerful until He calls us all homeward.

Thanks for posting again - from your heart.

Shalom,
AJCServant
