• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

You know you're an aspie if you can carry on a conversation by using nothing but movie quotes or song lyrics.

You know you're an aspie if you go to a restaraunt and the staff already know what you're going to order.

Haha - these are totally me!

It's really nice when the staff know your order by heart. A few times someone new messed up my order, but the manger saw me, double-checked it and caught their mistake. I'm also usually dressed the same too ;)

You know you're an aspie if you went online for five minutes to check an e-mail and are still there five hours later.

You know you're an aspie if you walk into doorways more often than you walk through them.

Sigh. Yes, sounds like me. The last one painfully so. ^_^

You know you're an aspie if you deliberately find alternatives to annoying smilies. (I, personally, have taken an irrational dislike to the "big grin". Ergo, the "kawaii"... apparently, it means "cute". It doesn't look very cute to me. I just chose it because it looked like it was laughing.)

Leading on from that... you know you're an aspie when you try to explain your humour. In more ways than one, probably.

For all of you with visual minds. This is a true t-shirt.

My specialist sees a boy who made a shirt that says (insert pictures): "I have (Donkey) and (two burgers.)"

^_^

A sense of humor about it - good for him!

That reminds me of something I saw yesterday:
2+2=fish
3+3=eight
7+7=triangle

Not that this is funny, but you do need to visualize
to get it... just as with the shirt :)

I've always been told I'm witty. But I'm most often only funny only to myself. But I'm so SO hilarious to myself! I'm a lucky gal to have me. Haha. My hubby always says I can dish out sarcasm, but can't take it. I always wondered what he meant....

Then there was my old boss who "loved" my sense of humor.... but most of the time I was just telling him how much of a jerk he was. I guess honesty is funny to some people. Or maybe it's all in the delivery!

I totally agree with the idea that wit is just taking reality and making connections most people don't see. This is a great source of pleasure to me, and what I consider funny.

I am sorry, but I can't find the humor in these jokes. I have a son who has Aspergers and due to his inability to make friends, at 19 he followed the wrong kid into vandalizing some property. It cost him four years in prison. I am a retired special ed teacher and I taught autistic kids. Not one thought their disability was a joke and would gladly trade places with you as would my son.
Forgive me, but this is a serious disability to me.

We're not making jokes about them; we're making jokes about us...

Your example and our own more serious incidents are certainly no laughing matter, but our other shared experiences certainly can be.

I apologize.

It's not all bad. It helps to be able to laugh at oneself; to not take oneself too seriously. A speech therapist gave our support group a paper on literal thinking. When it talked about about slanted language, I immediately thought "italics" and had to do a head slap. I shared it with the group and we all had a good laugh.
