I consider Black Sabbath more of a horror show. Their lyrics are anti-Satan.

Yes, Jimmy Page was definitely summoning the evil one in that movie. He worships the Beast. Some believe that his involvement in the occult somehow led to the death of singer Robert Plant's firstborn son, as well as the death of drummer John Bonham.

I don't know anymore, I have been confused about this issue for a long time, its been nibbling away at me.

Now, that I am getting stronger in Christ I am starting to get bad vibes from Led Zeppelin's music and I do believe that one of the gifts of the spirit is receiving vibes about things. Also, its says in the Bible that music should glorify God so therefore its not right to listen to music that doesn't glorify him? I don't know...I need to look at more scripture before I form a proper opinion.

Everything in our lives needs to be centred around God so if I am listening to something like Led Zeppelin then I haven't given all my life to God, KWIM?

Anyway....those are just a few of my thoughts.

Enjoying Led Zeppelin doesn't make you a non-christian any more than enjoying worship music makes you a Christian.

What I really mean though, is should a Christian love listening to their music? I can't think of a parallel in the Bible which tells me that I should be listening to it.

I think if your gut or spirit is telling you not to do something or making you feel remorseful, you should listen to it, especially if you feel like it is not pleasing God.

This will be different for everyone though.

For example, I don't read Harry Potter because I don't feel right about it. However 99.9% of christians I know do and love it and I don't have a problem with them reading HP. However, for me, it would be feel wrong. Personal convictions are just that, personal convictions.

Page's dabblings in the occult are well documented but I didn't know about summoning the devil with his bow in the film. Did it work? Page bought Boleskine House which was the former residence of Alaister Crowley dubbed 'the wickedest man in the world.' I am sure that God will know who has been pleasuring themselves with the devil's music.

two questions you gotta ask then:

1. can you find one that explicitly states that you can't enjoy something like this?

2. What is your spirit telling you? (by this i mean are you feeling convicted? do you find the message of the music is causing you to dwell onungodly things?)

answer those questions and you'll have your answer.

"In my time of dying, want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home

Jesus, gonna make up my dyin' bed.
Meet me, Jesus, meet me. Meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord. Please meet me with another pair"

I had this song played at my Mother's funeral before I understood the Truth. Fortunately it was by the 'Be Good Tanyas' and not Led Zep or she could have been condemned to Hell for eternity.

When I'm down or even when I'm up I find the type of music that gets me going is Christian. Whether it be gospel, worship, contemporary, or whatever as long as it magnifies the name of The Lord I'm happy. Anything else is of this world and gives a different message. Now that affects me in a variety of different ways, but I'll wrap it up with this: Is it okay to enjoy the music of a particular secular band? I think so. But look at the message they're sending in the lyrics and even during the playmanship of the instrument like you mentioned. Is it of God? It's something that's going to have to resonate within your own heart for you to make a decision on.

I just think it's sad that God gifts people with talents(saved and unsaved) and they don't use it for His purposes and will.

Yes, you can. I believe God will convict people of things that affect their relationship with Him, and if you're feeling that then it is probably best you do not listen to it. Basically though, your faith isn't based on what music you listen to or what TV show you watch, but on your belief in Christ and what He did for us on the Cross.

John Bonham? Come on...I doubt that. He'd probably still be around hadn't he drank too much and choked on his own vomit.

How do you reconcile this with being a Christian? (This question is pointed towards those who would say that it's okay to listen to anything you like.)

One of my favorite bands is Linkin Park (HUSH, don't judge me! :p) -- to me, the music is very spiritual and has a lot more depth to it than you'd imagine. I don't consider listening to music or going to concerts as a step back in my spiritual life because the music fuels my spirit -- the question is, what is it filling my spirit with? I "reconcile" the lyrics to my spiritual walk because, at times, I'm angry. At times, I'm confused. At other times, I'm complacent... boisterous, silly, happy, filled with tremendous love, etc.. I don't often find these varying themes in mainstream Christian music (which is why I posted a thread to ask about any new bands or artists I may not have heard of before). Secular music speaks more honestly. To me, secular artists aren't afraid to "let it all out there" and be real. Yeah, you can get a lot of crap if you're not choosey, but use discernment. (It's one of the fruits of the Spirit) Don't just go out there and buy a satan RULES ARRRRRRR!! album if you think it might not speak to where you're at (please don't let it be where you're at :sorry:).

I don't look to what every single musical artist I listen to does with their downtime, either. We all have things we need to work on, anyway -- we all have our own vices. Even Christian artists I might listen to, I don't focus too much on what they do, say, in their bedrooms or whatnot because what matters to me and my soul is whether or not the music and its lyrics encourages my walk with Christ or nourishes my soul. Does Led Zepplin encourage you in your walk in some way? Does it speak to where you are? Cool. I won't judge you then.

Music is art... and I can appreciate it without having to appreciate the artist. Dali's work is amazing, in some cases... but Dali was a moron. It's just all how you look at things, I guess.

Well if you believe in a literal, fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible, it's hard to reconcile.

If you have a more liberal viewpoint, there is no problem. Just because you like someone's music, it doesn't mean you support every action they might have done in their life.

comment removed im not a real christisn right now.

Your joking right? You know people are saved by faith.
