This is one of those things that makes me question my faith. I claim to be a Christian, but I also listen to Led Zeppelin and I am especially fond of guitarist Jimmy Page. I consider his music to be beautiful.

Jimmy Page is/was involved in the black arts and magick. He owned an occult bookstore at one time. He bought and lived in the house which used to belong to Aleister Crowley. In their concert film "The Song Remains the Same"
he performs a gesture with a violin bow in the middle of one of his long guitar solos, a 4-part gesture which is supposed to summon the most evil one, the chief of all evil spirits without mentioning the name. He does this not once but twice in a row.

How do you reconcile this with being a Christian? (This question is pointed towards those who would say that it's okay to listen to anything you like.)

I think a Christian can listen to just about any music they want. I'd take Zeppelin, The Pixies or the Stooges over any of the contemporary "Christian music" garbage they play on the radio these days in a heartbeat.

Why would the devil reward humans at all? Led Zeppelin didn't have horrible lives, they've written a song about God, and I doubt the devil would allow itself (yes I call the devil "it") to be summoned by a human, let alone a violin bow. That four-part gesture was flair, and although I don't approve of it I still don't see page as a devil worshipped because at one point in my Christian life, I was interested in magic. I enver practiced it or owned boooks or anything, and I had never heard of Alistar Crowley. But I am one of the many Christians I know who has an interest in magical topics such as Lord of the Rings and Yugioh. In fact, some of my favorite movies have magic: Beauty and the Beast, for example, is one of the most morally healthy kids' movies I've seen. and that movie has magical talking dishes for crying out loud.

And about starting the thread and God tempting him, I don't now if that's the case. First of all, many Christians wonder things even about Black Sabbath, who I know are a "Christian" band. Not the music most of the time, but Ozzy prays to God before every show, and he's written songs that claim God's the only way. He worships God without a doubt. The darkness in the albums is to make money, while he's making millions of bucks off of telling people to think for themselves whenever he's not telling people God's the only way, which he does both of. Yes, he basks in the label "devil worshipper," but that's likeley because he loves the irony. He knows he needs that false label or else people may stop buying his albums.

I don't think Page is a Christian, but I don't think he believes in magic or practices it but merely uses references. Otherwise, he would spend his time being some freaky magician instead of making music. I know lucifer had a lot of musical talent, but I'll reiterate: I'm sure he would torture Jimmy Page. I know that, as a Christian I myself would not use a lot of black magic references in my music or scripts or whatever, but I'm not going to hold a grudge against someone for not worshipping God.

God loves everyone, but he's not pleased with a lot that humans do. He's not pleased wioth Jimmy, but I believe Jimmy will enter the kingdom of heaven after the second resurrection and he learns, because Page's not an a**. He's a smart cookie, and I doubt he'll turn to the loser.

Another thing, I'm sure the devil would make its own music for Zep, instead of Zeppelin ripping off other artists. Jimmy knows how to cover, and he knows how to write actual songs. But the thing is, HIS actual songs are nothing compared to the rip-offs like "Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love." Personally, I'd love it if the four made it into the kingdom of Heaven. It would be the second resurrection for them, but they could make it. I want them to make it not necessarily because they're a rock group, but because I want everyone to learn.

I don't believe God will condemn us for what type of music we listen to unless it directly blasphemes God.

I used to listen to Led Zeppelin all the time a few years ago. Achilles Last Stand was one of my favorites. I would turn up the volume until the whole house vibrated. I would turn up the volume to the max which I think is the only way to listen to Achilles Last Stand. Man, I would get PUMPED to this song!

John Bonham's epic Drumming
John Paul Jone's epic galloping bass line
Jimmy Page's epic guitar playing and solo
Robert Plant's beautifully epic lyrics
Genius

kids these days say this song is epic or that movie is epic. They don't know the meaning of the word epic till they've listened to Achilles Last Stand!
Usually I don't pay much attention to the drums in a song but is the only song ever to make me want to air drum.

Once you've finished listening to this 10 minute epic you'll just want to press replay and go on the journey again

Favorite Led Zeppelin songs:

Ten Years Gone
(My favourite Jimmy Page guitar solo and guitar track)
Achilles Last Stand
(Epic)
Stairway To Heaven
(Classic)
No Quarter
(One of my Favorite Guitar riffs ever! Kind of spooky song in a cool kind of way)
Over The Hills And Far Away
(Jimmy Page is a genius)
All My Love
(Jimmy Page is a genius)

I don't really listen to Led Zeppelin anymore but I found this track just yesterday and I've listened to it at least ten times now
