This is one of those things that makes me question my faith. I claim to be a Christian, but I also listen to Led Zeppelin and I am especially fond of guitarist Jimmy Page. I consider his music to be beautiful.

I think it's alright but overrated.

I prefer Blue Oyster Cult to Led Zep any day.

Jimmy Page is/was involved in the black arts and magick. He owned an occult bookstore at one time. He bought and lived in the house which used to belong to Aleister Crowley. In their concert film "The Song Remains the Same"
he performs a gesture with a violin bow in the middle of one of his long guitar solos, a 4-part gesture which is supposed to summon the most evil one, the chief of all evil spirits without mentioning the name. He does this not once but twice in a row.

How do you reconcile this with being a Christian?

What he does with his music and life is not related to what I do with his music and my life. I don't just it as a soundtrack to summoning Balrogs or anything. I use it as a soundtrack to washing dishes at work. And yeah, I guess that can be pretty evil at times, especially when it is 1am in the morning after a busy night and I have blisters on my fingers but I digress.

Interesting. I wonder, how credible is that story?

I like some of their music, but only because I tend to enjoy classic rock every now and then so I never really got that deep into it. It never seemed to cast any black magic spells on me or anything.

Yes, while I don't care for LZ personally ( I feel they are HIGHLY over rated, they had talent, but that doesn't make them musical genius. The only group more over rated IMO is Pink Floyd, I cant stand PF). I DO like other bands that others would consider "wicked" "evil" and "satanic"

Just because I like a music style or musician does NOT mean I agree with their beliefs or life style.

Queen for example, they made a few good songs but, with a name like "Queen" surprise surprise, they were gay.

Black sabbath/Ozzy, Rob Zombie and MANY more.

Listening to a musician doesn't mean you have to agree with anything in their life view (though it helps) music speaks beyond the words spoken(sung) if you feel it, none of the political beliefs/ religious beliefs, whatever, matter as long as you have a brain in your head and think for yourself, then you can resist what you don't agree with in their message and simply enjoy what you consider "good music" outside of the message.

Okay, I hate to go on rants and sound like a jerk but this needs to be said...

STOP bumping old threads. I know you think its cute and funny and "hahahaha I bumped an old thread look at meee!" but guess what? It's not clever. In fact, I think its against the rules. At first I didn't really care but now its happening here more often and its irritating the heck out of me.

And also, yes, its okay for a Christian to listen to Led Zeppelin or any kind of music. Anyone that says "Christians shouldn't listen to ________" is a complete moron.

Good day.

If you have a more liberal viewpoint, there is no problem. Just because you like someone's music, it doesn't mean you support every action they might have done in their life.

Exactly! I've heard a lot of junk about Led Zeppelin religion. Page may like magic stuff, but he's in no way a devil worshipper. Robert Plant doesn't really have a religion. Someone once thought the song "The Ocean" was about pedophilia because of the lines "I sing all my songs to the girl who won my heart. She's only three years old." I had to explain that the 3 year old is Plant's daughter.

Led Zeppelin are perfectly fine. In fact, their songs have less sex than most bands.

The idea that Christians can't listen to certain music is absolutely absurd, and it boggles my mind that people still debate this in 2013.

I'm a Christian and I listen to gangsta rap and heavy metal. I really doubt God is gonna throw me out of Heaven because of what's on my iPod.

In short, don't worry about it.

You just ignore the bits you don't like.

^ Scrupu what?

"Music is the highest form of magick" - Marilyn Manson

"Dance in the dark of night. Sing to the Morning Light." - Led Zeppelin, The Battle of Evermore

the Morning Light = the Golden Dawn = the Lightbringer = Lucifer??

Who knows. Zep were heavy into the occult (Thelema), tho.

Ironically, I know a Church of Christ preacher man who's favourite band is Led Zeppelin. Maybe he's secretly an evil occultist. ^_^

I would say that it really depends (and I'm referring to any music here, not just Led Z) on how it affects you, your mood and your thoughts.

Instead of blacklisting a group, just be selective in your song listening. Not everyone is affected the same way by the same songs. Some people personalize them, to others it is just music. I know there is some music that I shouldn't listen to but I'm drawn to do so, especially when I'm in certain moods, which tends to accentuate those moods.

^ Scrupu what?

Scrupulosity is a psychological disorder characterized by pathological guilt about moral or religious issues. It is personally distressing, objectively dysfunctional, and often accompanied by significant impairment in social functioning. It is typically conceptualized as a moral or religious form of obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), although this categorization is empirically disputable. The term is derived from the Latin scrupulum, a sharp stone, implying a stabbing pain on the conscience. Scrupulosity was formerly called scruples in religious contexts, but the word scruples now commonly refers to a troubling of the conscience rather than to the disorder.

As a personality trait, scrupulosity is a recognized diagnostic criterion for obsessive–compulsive personality disorder. It is sometimes called "scrupulousness," but that word properly applies to the positive trait of having scruples.

Ironically, I know a Church of Christ preacher man who's favourite band is Led Zeppelin. Maybe he's secretly an evil occultist. ^_^

Maybe he just likes good music.

The hand signs ARE the Charms, in music videos and the symbols numerology ect is supposed to make you enticed it gives them some sort of power .. it's kinda like casting a spell don't you think? But you can easily close the book if you know about how their hypnotism works it's like you basically can shatter any spell they throw, but you must first know just how stinky & demonic all their junk is, it's easy not to listen to anything for a while most of their music isn't seen that good, which is probably part of they reason they turn to charms.

Uhm. You lost me. How does a symbol cast a spell on a person?

In a way, yes you can ignore the parts you don't like. But I don't listen to a lot of Black Sabbath for having very dark messages, and having a song that praises the evil one. I'll reiterate, Jimmy Page is not a satanist. In all honesty, I doubt the evil one would reward the very species that he wants to destroy with fame and fortune. Plus, Jimmy and Plant are great friends, and Plant has a few songs about God. In fact, Stairway to Heaven is all about growing spiritually. I doubt a satanist would help compose a song about growing in God.

All in all, Jimmy Page may be into a lot of magic stuff, but he's not so horrid as to worship the evil one. Actually, I doubt he believes in all of that. He just does that stuff to add "flair", like Alice Cooper does (except Cooper always states Satan is completely evil and will never be trusted).
