• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Interesting, I'll have to read that paper sometime soon.

Any links on how to mediate?
I'd say that this one is good (incidentally the first one in my google results):
How to Meditate: 6 steps - wikiHow

Points 1, 2, 4 and 5 are the most important.

You don't need to chant anything though, focusing on your breathing will help clear your mind. If I remember correctly that is also a method to ease hypnosis as well.

If I would choose between meditation for ten minutes a day or some physical exercise for ten minutes... I'd choose physical exercise because it's easier, but I should choose the meditation since it would definitely help me with focusing through the day (silly lazy me).

I'm no expert though :) have fun!

Do you know why?
:clap:Of course I know why because they make them cheap things in China. You can not trust them to work at all and chances are they will do you more harm then good. Most of that stuff is just a socialist plot to control the population anyways. Don't get me started Tiberius, you really don't want me to rant on about all this stuff do you? :sorry:

Got a source for this claim?
This seems like a thorough review of the literature. Conclusion: "Influenza vaccines can provide moderate protection against virologically confirmed influenza, but such protection is greatly reduced or absent in some seasons. Evidence for protection in adults aged 65 years or older is lacking. LAIVs consistently show highest efficacy in young children (aged 6 months to 7 years). New vaccines with improved clinical efficacy and effectiveness are needed to further reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality."
(LAIV is live attenuated vaccine, one of the two kinds.)

Those are students who the world is better off for not having graduate as doctors.

Now if they'll only keep this up we'll rest assured less chance of malpractice in our collective futures, with them wearing the white coats.

Muslim cab drivers in Minnesota wanted the lawful right to refuse to pick up scantily clad women, people with service dogs, and those who were carrying alcoholic beverages.

And in the same State a college professor resigned because Muslim males in her class threatened her life because she had need of a service dog, which she brought to class.

Not exactly the most tolerant or intelligent religious ideology on the planet.
The college should refund the tuition of these boycotting students and throw them out. If they don't want to learn the necessary curriculum information they're not fit to be students or doctors.

There are over 1 million Muslims in the world and they seem to have a problem with the theory of evolution. If you have medical students that are boycotting lectures on Darwin's theory, then how close are we to the banning of Evolutionary theory in Muslims schools?

"Muslim students, including trainee doctors on one of Britain's leading medical courses, are walking out of lectures on evolution claiming it conflicts with creationist ideas established in the Koran.

Professors at University College London have expressed concern over the increasing number of biology students boycotting lectures on Darwinist theory, which form an important part of the syllabus, citing their religion."

And even if that were true, you still need to do the full course of antibiotics when you have them. Do you know why? because of evolution!
Don't ever take antibiotics for the flu.

This doesn't really show the flu vaccine is a scam, as Jamin claimed. In fact, it actually says, "influenza vaccines can provide moderate protection against virologically confirmed influenza". Just because this is an area where improvement is required, doesn't mean we should throw the vaccine out in the meantime.

Indeed. The flu is caused by a virus, so antibiotics do not work.

Just because this is an area where improvement is required, doesn't mean we should throw the vaccine out in the meantime.

Of course the article does not say what Jamin claims, that's a given from the start.

The problem with the flu vaccine is that the there are multiple viruses causing the flue, the virus changes every year, and that the flu vaccine is only taken in a subgroup of people. So it is very hard to predict which virus will be important the coming season, it is very hard to predict which variant will be important and the virus still spreads quickly through the population. This underlies the problems in the efficacy of the vaccine.

Well, I am glad we got that all straightened out. But I am not so sure about banning the service dogs. Most of the laws to protect the disabled are federal and no one on a state level can mess with that.

By all means drink the cool aid. Don't let me stop you. If you guys were real evolutionists you would know that vaccines do not protect the individual they protect the population. So you go right ahead and get all them shots. It will protect me a lot more then they are going to protect you. On an individual bases the shots tend to do more harm then good.

I use to go back and forth with my dad about that. He said only 3% die from that so we do not worry about it. We still help the other 97%. I told him he should be worried about it and in the end I was right. He ended up being in that 3% category. If he had worried about it a little more there were things that he could have done to reduce his risk. Also I am not so sure the 97% were helped just because they did not kill them.

You and I know that. However, the facts did nothing to deter the intention of those Minnesota Muslim cab drivers I mentioned. (this is a 2007 ABC Article)

And this article about Muslim hate groups in a Minnesota University is linked from WND. Unfortunately because St.Cloud times no longer has the article easily available even in archive search.

Vaccines prevent disease. That is protecting the individual. The vaccines are not going to protect you more than they are me, because you are still not immune to the disease while I will be. This is also why on an individual basis, the shots do actually do more good than harm. If they did not, they would not be allowed approved.

Quite incorrect again. I'm a "real evolutionist" and I know perfectly well that vaccines protect both the individual and the population. When I visited Africa they vaccinated the heck out of me, and it wasn't to protect the population: it was to protect me.

With influenza vaccines, there is a real issue about who to vaccinate and who benefits. For a long time, the focus was on vaccinating the elderly, since they're the ones who are likely to die of flu, even though flu vaccines are quite ineffective in that population. From a public health perspective, the right population to vaccinate is small children, since they're the ones who spread the virus the most.

A person vaccinated to polio is always going to be better protected than a person without the vaccination. There is no way around it. We are already seeing big spikes in whooping cough correlating with children not getting their vaccinations. Time to break out those iron lungs again?

This isn't the evidence he talked about.

You don't use iron lungs for whooping cough. First-line treatments for whooping cough are macrolides, and they don't shorten the duration of illness or prevent symtoms. The role of antibiotic therapy in this illness is to reduce infectivity.

Meh :p reduced infectivity is overrated.

You do for polio which was mentioned earlier in that post. Actually, the modern versions are a bit more portable, like the one Christopher Reeves used.

The role of vaccination is to prevent infection to begin with. With fewer kids being immunized we are seeing dramatic rises in pertussis. Those kids not getting vaccinated is not helping them. It is putting them at risk of a potentially fatal infection.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm well aware that the flu is a virus and antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. taking antibiotics for the flu would be about as useful as running an antivirus scan on your computer to fix a broken car.

I was using the antibiotics example as a separate example to the flu one.

Again, please cite your evidence for this. What peer-reviewed research corroborates your claim that flu shots harm the individual more than it helps them?

And, what do these 3%/97% figures mean? Is it the number who get flu shots, or who die from flu shots, or who get flu, or who die from flu?
