  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

but you have a choice as to how you would act towards a woman.

So what? A person can NOT control who they are attracted to.

A gay man is going to be attracted to men. He can avoid acting on it. But that won't change the fact that he only finds men attractive. He can even sleep with a woman. But that doesn't change the fact that he is gay.

What's that have to do with sexual orientation?

.

I like women...I have no choice in the matter. Why? Because that's how I was Created and I can not change what is.

We weren't talking about sexual orientation we were talking about choice. Oh forget it, I don't have time for this. Do you feel that you are being an arsh?

Sorry...It looked to me like the part of the discussion I responded to was about choice of sexual orientation. If not, my bad.

Well, you kept implying that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. So we are talking about sexual orientation and whether one chooses who one is attracted to or not.

Oh, I think I see what trientje is saying. I think she may agree with us that people are not given a choice regarding their sexual orientation, but she is only concerned about what they do with that sexual orientation.

Some people are born with this urge that happens to be the incorrect one, and they should repress it, for acting on it would constitute sinful behavior.

Is this your view trientje?

I'm saying that man is born with free will, They have the choice as to how they will act. when discussing this I didn't bring the bible into it or moral judgement cause to an theist the bible means nothing to them and the morals dictated in the bible means nothing to them. The atheist makes his own moral code based on his own individual thoughts about what he thinks is right and wrong. " Some people may be born with this urge" that hasn't been proven.

Oh, so you still contend that people are not born homosexual, they're born straight?

Shoot, you were getting closer. One step forward, two steps back, I guess.

So you don't know either way at this point? That's fair. I respect that.

Where does your belief that homosexual acts are sinful come from, biblically speaking?

biblically speaking? Yes, but discussing my beliefs knowing they come from the bible is irrelevant. the bible means nothing to you, so why discuss the bible?

Because not all Christians agree with you.

If God has spoken regarding homosexuality, then that truth exists idependently of whether people believe it or not or whether other Christians agree with trientje or not.

I am quite sure that there were Christians who believed the earth was flat, some that the earth was round. Just because some did not agree that the earth was round with those who maintained that it was, did not make the earth not round!

And let me even go on to say that the Bible in several places condemns not only homosexuality but fornication outside of the confines of marriage and other perverse sexual sins.

There are Christians, however, that still engage in these practices. In fact, several epistles in the New Testament speak to these very subjects and all who were committing these indecent acts were encouraged to renounce them and deny their sinful lusts and devote themselves to a holy, pure life.

Too bad god has only spoken through Christians.
