Theres only two places it comes from, God or the Devil. So if he isn't getting them from God then obviously it leaves only one other source. Look at the "famous psychic" (cough) John Edawards. When he came out some say you can't really talk to the dead. Which is true, but if you read your bible and study many believe real psychics get their information from the Devil. It makes sense, it lures people away from God so they listen to this "amazing" person who seems to know about the dead.
That's a false dilemma, actually. Did anyone even consider the third option here, or were you too swept up in the supernatural? Isn't it at all possible that many of these "prophets" are no different from financial advisors, or economists? People who draw from the events around them to logically form a hypothesis? It's like what was said earlier in the thread: Any idiot could have predicted that Bush would be re-elected. And that's exactly what happened here.
Or Harold Camping! If you believe in the future coming of Christ (I'm a full preterist, so I don't, but that's a different story), then you can pretty much say, "Any day now," and have a certain chance of being right. Doesn't mean that the Devil gave them prophecy. It just means that they kinda spew predictions hoping to get one right.
So don't be so quick to accuse people of being in Satan's grip. That's false witness, and is just as much a sin as anything you claim they are guilty of.
