A Letter From An Atheist

I TOTALLY believe in the big-bang theory!!!! God spoke and it resounded a big bang!!!! Woot, Woot...praise God, Son and Holy Spirit!!! You make ALL things good!!!
I do not know if it was actually a bang, but they say there was a sound:

1) first1Myr.wav (0.5Mb, from slide 6): The sound from the first million years after the big bang, compressed to 5 seconds (1 second per 200,000 years), and with the volume held constant.

Who "big-banged" god into existence? Woot, woot.
Who "Big-Banged" YOU into existance? Toot, Toot.

You admitted that for 30 years you attended a Church where God was created by man.
Now you still can not figure out that there is a God that created man.
You would need to have a born again experience to know about God.

Here let me help you, AV.

God is that being than which none-greater-can-be-conceived. If one conceives of a version of God that does not exist, this one exists and is "greater".

Ergo God has what is called in philosophical circles: necessary existence.

This is part of the Ontological Argument of St. Anselm.

(Of course there are debates around this, including Kant's, as to whether one can consider "existence" as predicate. It gets messy when you start into using "existence" as a "property" of an object.)

There. Didn't even have to rely on the KJV.

Ah you do read my posts, I thought you had me on ignore. So if you do not believe in God as Creator then what created you? What is your concept of where you came from?
I do have you on ignore, although I occasionally click on your post if I think you've responded, but not always. :p

As intimated earlier, I came from my parents, through a process known as sexual reproduction. You can read all about it here:

Talk is cheap. What I'm more interested in is actual evidence.
No, you're not -- if you were, you would have it already.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

What say we just skip the mess and say, "God is"?

The saddest thing to me about the Christian faith these days is that it lacks the intellectual depth and philosophical beauty of the Medieval Church.

While I don't believe in God, I do believe that people have a mind worth using and philosophy and philosophical discussion is among the most interesting things around (apart from science).

So I am always saddened by modern (largely American I believe) versions of evangelical christianity which seems to rely on denying the "mind". It's almost as if the mind, thought, anything even hinting of philosophy is shunned. Avoided like the plague.

And I think the faith is sadder for the lack thereof. It becomes a series of empty aphorisms mouthed without thought.

Too bad.

But I know that kind of thing brings some people a lot of "comfort" and so I guess that's OK.

I choose to proportion my belief to the evidence. Since you have provided none, you'll understand if I don't accept your assertion.

Awww -- that's a shame, isn't it?

For us, that 'intellectual depth and philosophical beauty' is replaced by the 'intellectual depth and philosophical beauty' of the observation of fulfilled prophecy, as we see these great monuments to the Christian faith become just 'empty warehouses' as faith gives way to 'seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.'

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

We're living in exciting times, aren't we?

I do indeed understand, but please keep in mind that choosing physical evidence (rudiments of the world) over spiritual faith has its consequences:

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Would you define "spiritual" so I can understand what you mean?
