  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

According to many on this board It'd be none since they believe that gays are so much different then straights that they need there own special rights under whats supposed to be a streamlined system.

Yes I have in the city mall in the odd fast food joints and at school. what is your point?

LightHorseman said:
Why the heck would you say anything about the sexuality of a couple of strangers?

If you came up to me and started passing judgement on my sexuality in the mall, I'd probably "explode on you and beak your life" too. (I don't know what that means, but it sounds pretty negative) And I'm very straight.

I'm sorry i can't stand corner preachers or paraders, if you sit on the corner telling me If i don't join your denomination or i will burn in hell, or if you want to tell me i should embrace homosexuality i do not wish to have that noise pollution around. to the rest i better explained to the latter post.

Gishin - I do have to say i have to agree because the # and % of Gays will always be lower then straight (otherwise our population count will be turned on it's head). But you are correct in this point.

No, I haven't seen anyone saying that, but I have noticed a lot of support for ending their oppression.

The law has passed and Homosexuals are now permitted to be open about there
Sexuality in the Military.

Woman are in the Military but they have separate barracks. They do not bunk with men and they do not shower with men. This is because of there sexuality.

So! Why not have separate barracks for Homosexuals ?

Because we have already had homosexuals living in those barracks, the only difference is those servicemembers will be able to be open and honest about their sexuality. They have been living, showing, eating etc alongside everyone else for decades.

I think a lot of people put forth these kinds of arguments but they really are falacious. Do we segreate gays and straights anywhere else in society? I sometimes go to a fitness center close to my apartment and there are showers and bathrooms for men and women but none for gay men or lesbians even though there are good number of gays who work out there.

I am very glad this policy will soon be history.

The sexual misconduct from this will do more to destroy unit cohesion than just about anything else I can think of. I guess letting Taliban fighters go free wasn't enough to even the odds so they had to resort to this.

While I am aware it is a different culture, there was a blatantly obviously homosexual man in my barracks when I served in the army. It didn't really bother us that he was gay. Sure, some of the guys didn't like the idea of showering with him at first - being naked in the same room with someone who might find you sexually attractive does that. And it doesn't always help that there is a certain degree of... Well, dislike for the notion of homosexual ... activities among most heterosexuals. Especially among 18-20 year olds.

Regardless, him being gay was not a problem. I would probably rather have had gay men in my troop than women if battle ensued.

Why? Well, when I was that age - and still now - I'd take stupid risks to ensure the safety of women. I would not do the same for men. And stupid risks do not belong in a dangerous situation.

Am I opposed to women fighting or serving in the army? No. Not at all. I just think that some of us either have to adjust to the notion of fighting beside them - or (to avoid sexual tension) have the women in other barracks and other troops. Possibly even separate companies.

Aren't there already regulations re. fraternization and heterosexual misconduct within the ranks? These regs haven't been repealed, and will apply equally to homosexual activities. Why would this be such a problem?

Oh, in that case I'm sure there is nothing to worry about.

So where do you suggest the gay men sleep, shower, and change? With other naked men, with other naked woman, or other naked gay men.

The best option is for a gay man to sleep, change, and shower with me. They feel ok, but I am the one with eyes going up and down my body.

If you want gays in the military, try standing naked next to one once a day.

No problem. I'm perfectly comfrotable naked in a hottub with gay men, straight men, gay women and straight women. I can think of functions I have been to where was greeted with a hug and a kiss by both a gay amn and a gay woman.

No problem. But then I'm secure in my sexuality (which happens to be Het).

Have you ever seen any gays guys grab/slapping every male rear-end in sight?

Not I. And I have been at gay gars for various events.

That includes events that are half way to cruising night, which means I've been hit on a couple of times by some pretty good looking guys who have a thing for bears.

Funny how gays seem much better to deal with a polite turn down than some straights.

I have no idea about sweater bars as my associations are with the leather crowd. In the Leather bars even on wet underwear night (yup the gay version of wet tshirt night) someone who was slapping every male rear in sight would soon have serious problems.

Military expert Levy said the editor of the primary army newspaper, Bamachane, is openly gay. He estimates the percentage of gay soldiers at 10 percent in general and somewhat less in field units.
Former soldier Kaplan said certain intelligence and naval units were known for having a large proportion of gay soldiers.

Choose one ....

a) Gays in the army under Don't Ask Don't Tell
b) Openly gay soldiers serving alongside their straight counterparts
c) A segregated militrary separating gays & straights
d) No gays allowed in the army

My thought is this:

Only a small percentage of people in the service are actually frontline combat personnel. Their opinios are the ones we should be listening to, and that group is against gays in the military.

The military is not some social experiment test tube. It has a crucial job and a violent one unlike any other. It operates in a wholly different way than the rest of society does, and liberals should not impose their notions of gay rights onto that fighting force.

Well, we imposed racial minority rights onto the fighting force and they seemed to have managed just fine. Other countries have already done this, and they've done just fine.

Why was this revived?

In order:

  1. Racial tensions and sexual tensions are two extremely different animals.
  2. Other countries don't fight like we do. They usualy watch us do the fighting.
  3. I saw the thread and I thought it was interesting.

I say unless you're in the military, then it shouldn't matter. If it's not something that YOU personally have to deal with day in and day out, then it should be up to the troops. I further exclude this to currently deployed/fighting/active people.

The really high up people that are old, have positions and just look cool (Chiefs of Staff, etc), since they won't be around much longer, leave it to the people who WILL have to deal with it.

It's kind of like being a senior in high school and voting on what to change the mascot to NEXT year, when you will be gone. You don't have to deal with it or it won't be affecting you very long, if at all.
