What I find depressing is that Lillen is convinced that he is studying something worthwhile.

Not at all - it's just depressing to see someone so ignorant of the knowledge that has allowed our species to progress to the point it has; furthermore it's irritating to have someone demonstrably clueless about science lecture scientists about what is scientific and what isn't. It's socially acceptable at the moment to give scientists a hard time despite having no clue about what they do, and I'm sick of it. You don't see people lecturing heart surgeons that they're wrong because they haven't factored in the magic blood pixies that their holy book tells them are responsible for pumping blood around and that they're doing the devil's work.

The only way around this impasse is an increase in the understanding of how science works and what it has done. If you think education, understanding of technology and the ability to think critically aren't important for mankind, then you're deluding yourself, and it's one more reason why people who think this way should be kept well away from the public education system.
