That is interesting. The NIV is the best selling Bible today.
1Ti 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

My question is, is there a verse that states the KJV is God's "refined" Bible? I would assume a modern Bible that is based directly from the Hebrew and Greek translations would be much more accurate.

Probably.

And you're asking that question wrong.

I consider the entire AV line to be authentic.

So, yes, I think the NIV came from Satan -- no, I do not think the Geneva Bible came from Satan.

Interesting, why do you consider the AV line to be authentic and NIV to be from Satan?

What if you are wrong and the AV was inspired by Satan and the NIV came about through divine inspiration? Surely some of the NIV people consider the AV to be from Satan?

I hope I'm not offending you with my questions, they are genuine. As I am non-religious I find it very peculiar that one can pick a single version of the Bible and claim it's authenticity based on nothing more than their own interpretation when, literally, to the religious so much is at stake.

Of course not.

Much more accurate than God, Himself?

Here's a demonstration of your "accuracy":

Colossians 4:15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.

Colossians 4:15 Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.

If a baker baked a cake from sugar and butter, then promised that she would always bake using sugar and butter -- then a line of cakes came out using saccharine and margarine; wouldn't that be the evidence needed to distinguish one line of cakes from the other?

Not at all. :)

Can you expand upon this analogy? Does the bible say somewhere how to recognize a fake?

Psalm 12:
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Why is it, that one of the most controversial passages, the Johanine Comma, is found in the AV line:

  • AV350 Gothic Version
  • AV700 Anglo-Saxon Version
  • AV1389 Wycliffe Version
  • AV1534 Tyndale Version
  • AV1560 Geneva Bible
  • AV1568 Bishop's Bible
  • AV1611 King James Version
... but not in the NIV line?

In fact, can you give me the NIV equivalent of the above line?

The NIV comes from Classical Greek texts, the KJV comes from Koine [common] Greek texts.

Mark 12:37b And the common people heard him gladly.

I was under the impression that the Comma Johanneum was not in many of the bibles that preceded the AV... such as the Codex Sinaiticus (4th Century). In fact the way I understand it, it only showed up in scripture sometime in the middle ages.

So how does one decide if it showed up as a result of Divine Inspiration or Satan. Perhaps, one could even conclude that it first showed up as a result of Satan and was removed in the NIV due to divine intervention. It all seems so confusing.

Now it's my turn to say 'no offense', EU.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when someone -- especially an atheist -- suddenly wants the 411 on information this controversial, I have to view it with suspicion.

I just recently was asked a question by someone, only to have that person (and I can't remember who it was) call me a poe and a troll when I answered it.

That pretty-much rubbed me the wrong way.

I don't believe you guys are really sincere in your questions.

A simple "I don't know" would've sufficed, AV.

No offense taken AV. Respectful discourse is all I'm really concerned about. My motives are not diabolical and they most certainly are not going to lead to me calling you a "poe" or a "troll". You have your beliefs and I respect those beliefs. My goal is to try and see how someone reconciles their faith with reality.

The Comma Johanneum was not my choice of subject material and I'm really not too concerned with discussing the controversial nature of this. Again, all I really want to know is how someone determines the difference between Satanic Intervention and Divine Inspiration.

Sheesh, how many versions is it going to take before God gets it right?
