Hey Steffi. :)

Breaking confidentiality is pretty much releasing what was said under confidentiality - its something that you agree to in your mod application, that you wont disclose cofidential information.

I dont know exactly who was banned, or what for, or what they were doing at the time, so i cant comment really.
Thank-you - I wanted to check that it hadn't changed since I was a mod. If this is still the case though I'm even more confused as to why so many were banned and/or removed from staff as the teen forum disappearing from the main screen is a little difficult to hide or consider confidential. I'll wait and see if the advisors or higher-ups have any insight :).

Hi dan. :)

Yes, some of the teens are not able to post. Its sad, i think it is anyways. A lot of my friends are among this group.

I object vaguely to being called a 'Yes Man' mod - you know im not Dan.

It would be nice to receive one from the teens group - sure, it might not be universal, but its there, ok? Also, there be more than four advisors. :p

Well, I'm just glad you don't strongly object it, otherwise I might feel badly about it ;).
The "yes man" comment was meant to be a little less concrete than that. One needn't necessarily agree with everything to be a Yes Man (ok, maybe they do, but not for the analogy I was trying to use!). It was more a way of underlining what I said about needing mods who will actively argue and disagree with the Advisors if they feel a change isn't ideal. Frankly, I don't expect you to do that yet because you've only recently become a mod. But the more established mods should be able to voice displeasure without having to fear ramifications. (Actually...you might be the Senior mod now in the section :().

Alright, thanks.

Read through the entire thread. I knew something like this was going to happen. Anyway, since I'm obviously gonna be considered a "problem poster", this will definitely be my last post here. Nice knowing some of you. As for those who constantly bated posters and staff, good riddance. Same with some of the overzealous mo-management.

i'll try to answer a couple of things as talking to you guys has really made me see the light that it's time to stop being angry and get back to work. as arbor said, there will be an age change. We were going back and forth on what the cut-off would be. One thing I was still going over was the not having/having a common area. if people were fired or let go it was because they either admitted to leaking staff posts or because the person who received leaked info told us where they got it. again I do apologize for being so mean to some of you who contacted me that one night. I have no excuse except that I was so extremely angry. shouldn't have taken it out on you all, though. what else....the people asking for teens to apologize, I can honestly say i don't need it. only a handful got flamey or did bad stuff to accounts or whatever. nobody else needs to apologize for them. i think some people who got banned in the frenzy of accounts being hacked into will find the ban is lifted. some of you did get caught up in us needing to get people off to whittle down who might be doing the damage to accounts and computers. if your ban hasn't been lifted please come to the SC box so we can over it. as far as remaining teen mods agreeing with some changes proposed or being yes men...they aren't. at all.

Note:
I was in no way involved in this mess but I am a very active member of CFTeens and several other boards. My post record is something I am proud of and if you wish to see what I believe and how I debate and discuss, please read through my posts.

FYI:
I am a friend or acquaintance of many of those who were banned.
I am certainly not biased towards them because I by matter of principle don't take sides unless I truly believe in the cause.
I have sided with those who disagree with the Staff simply because I have seen no evidence that denies anything they have said... and this announcement thread seems to prove some of it.
:(

My goals:
I really want reconciliation. Friendships between the leaders of the board and the youth.

Forgiveness. :)

I want Teens to return and continue and be a fruitful area for fellowship and debate among the youth.

And I am concerned this fiasco is threatening that. :(

Now:
As far as I can tell, this is a chronological account of what occurred from the point of view of the teens banned:
-The Advisers were considering changing the age limit in the Teen section but wanted to keep it on the down low for a while or until they actually implemented the changes. The change would have been from 13-21 to 13-18. :|

-A teen forum Moderator felt this was betraying almost 200 members of this forum by shattering friendships across the 16-21 year old populace.

-This moderator opened a thread about 'hypothetical changes' but actually just quoted almost verbatim tha actual discussion of the proposed changes from the Advisers posts in the staff area.

-This moderator was banned. The thread locked and deleted.

-The teens who saw it started talking vigorously in PMs and elsewhere. They were all banned and then suddenly Meh mass banned a huge number of teens and teen moderates who assisted the first moderator who was banned for leaking the info.

-Meh accused teens of hacking her account and doing bans.

-More bans.

-Supposed hacker was hinted at having been caught.

-All info was locked and the CFTeen section was closed indefinitely.

-The chat channel was filled with questions, it was closed.

-Little information was given by anyone.

-Over 90 of the CF Teens (including many of the active ones and all the ones who were banned) moved to a new website they created as a temporary haven.

-The confusion has been terrible and some teens have even been starting to wonder if Meh was lying about the hacking in order to cover up a loss of temper. :sigh:
This is a particularly troubling accusation and I really hope the whole hacking thing could be explained.

-The total lack of information has added to the confusion. :(

-This announcement opened with words that seemed to accuse the teens as having been solely to blame.

-The many in the exile forum felt betrayed and were outraged.

-They are at a state of negotiations to figure out what to do next, something I was not authorized to give details on because I am here saying this of my own free will and desire to facilitate reconciliation in whatever way I can. I am not here to represent them. Just to do what I can to help the situation.

I hope the Advisers can add to this and give the other side of this story so the picture becomes more clear.
The Teens have not had any other input besides the bits and pieces that have been put together.
I, for one, really want to hear the Staff side of this whole issue.

I endeavor to record an accurate account of these events as I am a Historian and love politics and stories.

Thank you all.

NOTE:
This is not intended to be taken as an exhaustive history or completely accurate. This is what I have gathered from interactions outside of CF Forums with the fellows I mentioned.
I have posted this for anyone who wants a brief perspective and history and for the Advisers and other Staff to post and say what is accurate and what is not from their official perspective.
I'm so sorry this happened to you guys.

Can I just say how much I appreciate the gracious nature of your post meh. I think all of us in this have said things we regret in the cold light of day (I know I certainly have and I also apologise for them), which is so sad when we are meant to be Christ's body on earth. Hopefully now things have calmed down we can begin to work towards a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

I don't at this point know if I will continue the journey here. I've been feeling for a long time that this sites values and mine differ to much for me to be here. However, I think it is good that if we do part we do so in Christ's peace, who ultimately is the real reason for us being here, and I warmly welcome the approaches from both sides to bring reconciliation.

Wherever the journey takes us, may I wish you meh and the other advisors every blessing. Thank you for the tireless hours you put in - we may bitterly disagree over somethings, but I appreciate you all as people for what you do. And I thank you unreservedly and wish you every blessing in the future. :)

In Christ's unending love

David

Just one thing.

if Admin Computers are getting hacked, they really need to learn how to lock down their computers, as their is no reason a computer should be hacked over the web with standard security protocols.

If the accounts are getting hacked it's either due to a bug in the V-Bulletin software (All patches should be applied) or bad passwords.

Have the admins been told about Good password security (No Dictionary passwords, good random combination of letters & numbers) ?

Y'all should have led off with meh's explanation than the way you did. It would have done wonders.

Now, for the mods who ended up fired and banned, they went to the mat that night to try to stop the trolling and hacking. It would have been much, much worse if they hadn't literally stayed up all night consoling hurting teens. You really ought to reconsider the bannings/firings. They have a heart for teens and will be needed if you want to have a hope of rebuilding the teens forum. I guess it will come down to whether you value mindless adherence to the rules or a true heart for ministry with teens.
