Such beautiful cats, Photini.

Cats are so much more beautiful than dogs. ;)

We had a female cat named Star, who had white paws, a white star on her head, white neck and a beautiful shiny black body. She was a short hair and was half-Siamese. She cried and meowed like a Siamese and was sort of aloof. She looked much like your Jones, Photini.

Star had several liters of kittens and then passed on from this life. Maybe I will see her in heaven; I surely hope so.

One we named Flopsy. He was a male ragdog with blue eyes, long white hair with patches of tabby beige. He was beautiful. We lost him last year. He would fall on the ground and flop around in hopes that we would pick him up. When we did, he would go limp in our arms and we would have to put him on the sofa and pet him. He was a purring fur ball.

The other kitten from the same litter of six, we have kept and named Smokey. He is similar to his mom but he has grey hair and looks like he is wearing a tux with a white neck and white markings on his face. He is very aloof and possesses Siamese traits. He is very finiky about his food, and seems to always turn up his nose at most food but then returns to eat it within five minutes when we have left the room. However, his favorite meal, which he never refuses the first time is chicken breast freshly cooked with garlic and then pureed in our blender. Since he is an old cat now, we are giving him a liquid diet most of the time with a little bit of kibble for a nibble. That is why he also likes regular FAGE Greek Yogurt, but not the 2 percent or nonfat variety.

It is funny how this thread always turns into a cat vs rat vs dog thread, either that or beer and football heros.

Should we talk about geckos too?

I really enjoyed seeing the green gecko in Kona on the Big Island. However, that species is an invasive species which is unfortunately gobbling up the native Hawaiian house gecko. The Native Hawaiian house gecko prefers bugs and spiders, but the gold-dusted day gecko or green gecko prefers to eat other lizards such as the house gecko.

From South Kona, Hawaii -- no we did not visit there, but maybe we will next time when we hope to return to Hawaii in 2009.

For you dog lovers, there are a bunch of canines -- beautiful dogs and great shots too.

For you cat lovers, take a gander at this website too. A feline is captured at play.

And there are more critters too. There are beautiful and harmless Jackson Chameleons. Near the end of the first page, you will see a gold dusted day gecko.

Hmmm, Gwen, are you an animal lover? LOL!

4 cats and 1 dog...yeah...I'm an animal lover...(don't have digital pics of the dog...camera died, waiting of the old fashioned film and CD to get back ROFL)

I even keep scraps out front for the stray cats, and my backyard is ever so slowly (landscaping and plants are expensive) being transformed into a year round bird sanctuary :)

My favorite thing in the mornings (okay afternoons) is to wake up, and drink my coffee while watching the little birdies frolick in the backyard...

So far I've 67 different species that visit our yard and feeders :)

67 different species of birds, wow!

Sounds like you live in a tropical paradise, Gwen!

Have you taken any pictures of birds that you can share?

BTW: We saw a partridge on top of the neighbor's roof when we were staying in Kona, Hawaii two weeks ago.

It was really screeching up a storm -- the loudest bird I have ever heard. It was a Saturday and I am sure that it woke up the neighborhood.

We have the mourning doves here in California ... and so does Hawaii.

We do not have the pleasure of seeing the blue jay, but we do have its cousin, the feisty scrub jay. Those fellas will tease a cat. Poor bird has little sense, because the cat will return a swipe and nail them every time.

Oh, yes, we have the sparrows.

Do you have mocking birds too.

We have cockatiels and occasionally see an escaped parrot. The parrots are now breeding in the wild and Pasadena has several flocks of them. I do not know what they do in the winter to keep warm.

At the lower elevations in Los Angeles and in Pasadena, there are wild peacocks too, but we do not have them in our neck of the woods because we are at 2100 feet where it does get cold at night.

Scroll down a little bit. The first picture you will see is one of those green gold dusted day geckos. It is beautiful.

ohhh what a pretty creature!

We had geckos in Florida (I'm in Missouri now..). They were always a welcome visitor in my home because they ate the bugs. :)
There are a few pretty little gecko like critters down by the Lake of the Ozarks...didn't get the camera out in time for a decent pic, but they were blue adn green and irridescent ...

That's right! you recommended St Mary's of Egypt to me...and I did visit there once :)

Next time you're up KC way, coffee's on me :)
