  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know there's predominately more moms here than dads, so I thought I'd start a thread for us dads and see where it leads. I've no real topic in mind, so maybe I'll start off a few...

Do you have a "man room" in the house to yourself? Ok, call it an office/den/library, but is it essentially "your" space? I have a fully equipped homeoffice, but a buddy of mine decided to equip his with a huge flatscreen/media system/PS3/computer/fridge/winecooler and a couple of leather chairs, all high-end......tempting.

Another...are you driving a car of your dreams, or is it still prioritized for your kids, ie. the dreaded minivan or other utilitarian transportation device?

:D

My car is as pedestrian and boring as they come but I do have a motorcycle that I like. I used to have a room devoted solely to my music stuff, but it seemed like a waste. I have a bar in the basement that I don't really use because we don't entertain much these days. The garrage is all mine.

Awesome. I'll assume it's a Gsxr? I had a 748 before my son was born...had to get rid of it for something less 'risky'. So I bought a stationwagon. :D

Yup, a GSXR1000. Funny you say mention the Duc 748, I loved those bikes, and just yesterday my friend picked up a brand new 848 - the 748's descendent and a truly beautiful bike.

I tried to do the Multi Quote thingy but it didn't work.
Ok, so us males are the silent types. Strong, muscles bulging right? No? I didn't think so.
Now to those questions.
1. Do you have a "man room" in the house to yourself? No. I sort of use what ever room I want. Our office/study also doubles as a play room for the girls and my radio shack. It is more like a living room than a study. Mind you, the toys are here, the computer and comfy chair is here, but my radios are still packed away. But there are so many things to do.
2. are you driving a car of your dreams? Yes/no. I would like a Rolls Royce. But have you seen the price of those things. My car is a very ordinary station wagon. But it is excellent for long trips with cruise control, air-conditioning power windows and all that stuff. It is the luxury model in its range. I like it, the wife likes it, the kids like it, so I guess we are all very happy with it.
And now for a couple of questions you didn't ask but should have.
3 What do you do with your spare time? What's that? I don't have any. I works and plays. That's it. Sounds boring, but with our girls it's not. I can, and do, spend hours with the girls and my wife and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also like to garden and play with radio. The former I do, the later is on my too do list. I do have an advanced amateur radio license but haven't fired up the radio for years. Again, one can dream.
4. How many children? Two. Michele is 4+ and Cathy is 1.5. Both are brilliant kids for the opposite reasons.

I have a workshop and office, but mostly I just have a chair out on the dock where I'll go and sit.

Another...are you driving a car of your dreams, or is it still prioritized for your kids, ie. the dreaded minivan or other utilitarian transportation device?

My wife has the minivan, I have the pickup.

I've also got a 1947 Farmall M that looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

Bought it from the son of the original owner, who said that his dad was very dilligent about taking care of it.

After the dad died, the son did some minor cosmetic work and showed it in competitions. Won a bunch of trophies with it, too.

I bought it to use on the farm, but the truth is, it's museum quality and I just can't bring myself to do it. Mostly, I'm just driving it in parades and shows.

Good additional questions.

That doesn't sound boring at all. I absolutely just love spending my free time with my 8yo son and wife - it's my 'decompression' time where I get re-energized and re-oriented to life's true priorities.
