  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please show me a few. Do you have a sermon excerpt or anything at all that shows he's more than the clips we've already heard? All I've seen is nonfactual screaming and divisiveness, but I've never actually gone to the church. I have a feeling I wouldn't be welcome.
Are you really naive enough to think that the media is presenting a fair and balanced picture of the man? Are you not aware the media naturally gravitates to content that is shocking and sensational? Do you think his standard sermons and presentations of the gospel are likely to make it onto youtube?

It's obvious there is more to this guy. If everyone sermon he preached was this controversial then every sermon he's ever preached would be on the internet by now.

It remains the Democratic Party as far as I recall, and it was a Democrat who made the decisin to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If you contend with those points, fine

Historically speaking, Democrats are also more likely to force people to fight in foreign wars.

Which is exactly why the Republican's arguments that Democrats are weak on defense is a bunch of bunk and totally false.

How is it obvious? So far, the facts available point to a pastor unable to talk about Christ or the bible, but only about white America and a congregation willing to listen because they, like most liberals, would rather find someone else to blame and someone else to solve their problems. If this kind of thing is not his standard sermon, then it shouldn't be all that hard to find an example of what is, or at least something that isn't quite as embarrassing as the stuff we've heard. But no one seems to be able to.

"I can no more disown him that I can disown the entire black community." Bravo, the man of change and the great uniter right there.

Ahh, I misread that. I assumed you meant they caught up to a runner with a squad, not ran over them like roadkill. Sorry, I will condemn those bad apples with you.

It seems BillNew was able to do what no one else could.

Making your mind up on a whole church or person based entirely off what the media has given you is always a bad idea.

Yes, of course disowning friends is a far better road for a uniter  . Did you read his speech?

Did I wake up in Twilight Zone? Was Churchill an American? Thought for sure we were discussing Americans?

Churchill wasn't exactly a small player on the world scene at that time. He was privy to all significant information that the US had as well as being in on the major decisive making. And for the record. yes, Churchill was an American.

The historical fact remains, and must be judged in the after-time, that the decision whether or not to use the atomic bomb to compel the surrender of Japan was never even an issue. There was unanimous, automatic, unquestioned agreement around our table; nor did I ever hear the slightest suggestion that we should do otherwise.
Winston S. Churchill, Triumph and Tragedy

Marshall was not pro bomb on those targets and in fact he said he didnt want to make th decision to us or not use them.

Marshall once stated :“We thought the bomb would be a wonderful weapon as a protection and preparation for the landings. But we didn’t realize its value to give the Japanese such a shock that they could surrender without loss of face.” Sounds pro-bomb to me.

Wow. Anyone else notice there was no response to prove Wright was wrong about why 9E happened?

You expect me to try to prove a negative? Wright stated that it was america's chickens coming home to roost. Prove that he was right. What did America do that deservedly provoked the attacks of 9/11?

Nice, it took him until the last line to include prayer. Keep hoping, hope is good, the world hates you but don't stop hoping. Oh yeah, and pray, that too. That's the kind of weak tripe that gets some pastors fired.

Ironic how the passage you highlighted goes right along with his "white people hate us" screeds, too.

Every word. "More socialism!" is a nice summary.

Sorry if i hurt the thread but it seemed worth it to briefly show why Wright isnt a 'nutcase' for some of the things he said.

Claiming that Pearl Harbor was knowingly and willingly allowed to happen in. Stating that 9/11 was America's chickens coming home to roost. Claiming that Aids was created by the US government to commit genocide against people of color. Stating that "we never batted an eye" after dropping the atom bombs.

Those are that rantings of a nutcase. Plain and simple.

Where on earth did you get the word 'deservedly' from. Do you realise how big an effect that word has on your sentence?

i.e. you don't like his style (which you don't have to) but you're preconception that the guy only gave clearly racist speeches has been busted but you're not gracious enough to admit it.
Every word. "More socialism!" is a nice summary.
"Dirty commie" were the first words in my mind too!

#776-NO-Churchill was NOT an American. On April 9th, 1963, through a special Act by Congress, they made him an HONORARY AMERICAN CITIZEN. Gee, do American Citizens need to be awarded as an Honorary Citizen? Refresh my memory, when were the bombs dropped? Was it anywhere close to '63? I provided a website with a ton of quotes and a specific citation from Eisenhower himself, but we see the first line of defense is to reference a NON AMERICAN CITIZEN! LOL

Oh, and I didnt simply asked for anyone to prove a negative. I asked why did 9E happen? Showing us why would inherently prove Wright's claim wrong. Like I said earlier, somebody else who criticizes Wright needs to help out.
